Enjoy walks in our parkland, sit and relax on one of the four lawns or just simply enjoy the heated pool and sunbathe the day away.
With attention to detail in every manner, we have taken care of your comfort needs with recent updates across the building, including new linen, new towels and new bikes. We have good WiFi, games, table tennis, swings for the children, satellite television and heating available. The kitchen is well equipped and the reception rooms are a pleasure to sit in.
What we do is charm. Our guests fall in love with Mont-Felix and most return. I have uploaded our guest book photos for you to see reviews written down. We aim to provide a large space for groups and families in a safe and sound environment. Mont-Felix is an old country house with a lot of character, in fact buckets of it. It is also beautiful inside and out. The architecture is second to none, in fact it is second to the city hall in our regional capital Tours as the same architect designed our Chateau. We have focused on things like super comfortable beds. Excellent linen and towels. Cleanliness and safety. A lovely heated pool and beautiful surrounds.
Looking for a feeling of space and light? Look no further. With three reception rooms with 4m high ceilings you will have all the space you need. The ground floor is a mezzanine floor with elevated views of the park all around. You will feel like lord of the manner here and why not when you are here in the Chateaux region of France.
The Chateau if basically laid over three floors and seven bedrooms, in five suites. ou will find a mixture of double beds, 2 cots and there is enough space to accommodate a combination of 13 adults and children plus 2 babies.
We think our Château is a holiday rental with a difference. Nestled within its own forest, you will have this whole property for yourself in complete privacy for you and your group. No owners in sight! (But on the phone if you need anything at all and then there is our concierge, Annik, in the local village)
Situated very close only 3 miles to the beautiful and medieval Royal Citadel of Loches, the grounds and whole chateau is for hire.
Enjoy this Loire castle in all its splendor for yourselves exclusively.
We think it is a perfect rental for events, a family holiday or just relax with friends in the beautiful Loire Valley countryside. Maybe a cycling or walking holiday or just explore the region. It is all on your doorstep in Loches and the surrounding area.
If you have decided on visiting the Loire Valley and exploring all the Chateaux and vineyards, then why not treat yourself and family to your very own secluded and private Château to make as your base and call home?
When you walk into Mont-Félix you will rise up some stairs into the grand staircase which is about 1.5 meters from ground level. This is the level of our ground floor. This was the fashion for chateaux in the 19th century and for good reason. It really gives you an air of elevation. You can look through windows and see everything from a perfect angle into the gardens. You will see when you arrive it is lovely.
You have a choice of 3 doors on this ground floor hall and a single helix cantilevered oak staircase going up to the rooms which we just discussed. In the middle of this hall, you are presented with two 3 meter high doors, probably open and you walk in to the central reception room.
Salons / Living Areas:
The central reception room is called salon de Chinois. You will notice why from its décor. It is one of 3 identically sized reception rooms on this mezzanine floor. With 4 meter high ceilings you will have the immediate feeling of volume and space. Walk straight and you will see floor to ceiling doors to a balcony / terrace ideal for alfresco dining or accessing the front gardens and outdoors. Turn feft and you are in Salon ‘Vue de Loches’, named this because you can see the town in the distance from this room. Both rooms are equipped with large sofas, comfy chairs and practical coffee tables. There is a small hi-fi for you to use and wifi available.
Banquet / Dining room:
Turn right as you enter salon Chinois and you are in the 3rd identically sized room, which is the dining room. Again sumptuously decorated with a family feel but still remaining from le époque with two huge wall cabinets for your dining pleasures. There is large dining room table to accommodate your needs.
The kitchen is next to the dining room. It is not enormous but very functional. It can easily cater for all your needs. Well stocked with all the tools required by the chef or anyone who feels like to cook. There is also an ideal table to feed the kids and a nice view out of the window. The fridge and freezer is ample and there is a all the mod cons including a superb dishwasher. We are sure you will not be disappointed by the kitchen.
There are 5 principle suites in Château de Mont-Félix.
The first suite, known as Chambre George, has a double bed and a single bed in another room adjacent. It is perfect for a small family and there is space for a cot as well. The room has its own ensuite with a shower and spot lights in the ceiling. It is a charming suite with views to the rear and lovely peace and tranquility.
Next door is a twin, called Adele, has two very comfortable singles with our special 'tower bathroom'. We call it that because it is in a small tower. The bedroom has a table with chairs to relax and admire the Louis 16th drawers and marble fireplace. There is ample room in a large closet for clothes ect. The views are to the front of the property across the lawns. Beautiful. Also there is a tiny chapel in another tower just off this bedroom.
Next-door is 'Chambre Theodore'. Another great great uncle. (who helped build the vietnamese railway as an engineer and helped furnish a salon downstairs) this room is in the centre of the house. The ensuite has just had a small make over and is now refreshed. The bedroom is handsome due to its wood panelled ceiling and heavily oaked fireplace with a centrepiece mirror. There are 19th century framed tapestries and a king size solid oak bed. Commanding views across the lawn and on to the village it always pleases it's guests.
Still working clockwise there is 'Chambre Francoise'. Francoise is a charming room with an airy feel and a tower closet. With a super-king bed (one of the largest in the Château) and a beautiful marble fireplace and dainty decorative features this room does not fail to impress. Wake up in the morning and pull the curtains to an unobstructed view across the lawns to the village and to the fields on the horizon.
Finally through the last door on the stairs past the second stair case there is 'Chambre de Tournemire'. This suite compromises of two rooms and an ensuite bathroom. Perfect for a family of 4 or a couple and two sharing the twin bedroom. The room with the double also has a super king bed which you may get lost on. Lovely and quiet, views to a garden courtyard with apple trees and exotic conifers, this room has a lovely ambient feel to it which is light and airy.
We also have a cosy tv room with a small library off to the side on the ground floor. Great for family DVDs or catching up on British or French tv news, we also have sky tv albeit with limited channels! There is also a ground floor toilet near the front door. That sums up the ground floor. There is also a basement.
Here you will find, bikes, table tennis, a industrial sized washing machine and a drier all for your use.
Outdoors you will find ample place for parking. Easily accommodating up to 7 cars. There is a nice long drive to access Mont-Felix which is of course private.
Enjoy our outdoor pool. Heated and in good condition the pool will be appreciated by all on those sunny days. There is a changing room hut and plenty of towels and outdoor furniture to lounge and sunbath on.
Built with safety in mind for kids. There is a tasteful screen all around and a double action locking system to prevent children entering on their own.
Forest and outdoors
There is 10 acres for you to enjoy. Lots of paths and small routes to explore. It is really does offer a secluded and private experience.
I hope this has explained Chateau de Mont-Felix to you, I am sure I have missed a few things however we really do value our guest and I am available for questions at your disposal.
For six generations Chateau de Montfelix has been in our Family. Our forefather George Smith D'Ergny constructed the Chateau in 1840 for his three children Adéle, Théodore and George, it has been passed down the line and now sits with my Mother Frances.
Gavin Ferns purchased this chateau / country house in 1840
Six generations later and the property is still with our family. We continue to maintain and update the Chateau for future generations.
We love Mont-Felix because the air is sweet, the stars are bright, the ambiance is perfect and the setting is magnificent. It really is special! Take a look at our guest book and you will see how much all of our guest have loved it during their stay
We were a small group looking to tour around the Loire Valley and hired Chateau MontFelix for this reason. We were very happy about our decision! Close to the town, beautiful in its self with a market weekly and right in the middle of the famous Chateaux. Recommend Chenonceaux as a must do. Lovely chateau and great owners, they could not do enough for us.
My wife and 3 sons, ages 2, 4 and 8, stayed at Mont Felix for a week. The chateau is located in a wonderful area and very close to some great towns and historic sites. The property is good for exploring with young kids. The house itself is quite large, and furnished with period decor from the longtime family owners. We found the home relaxed and comfortable and convenient with plenty of room. A highlight was the modern pool area, which was delightful on warm summer days. The caretaker Annick was a great help, and did some shopping for us prior to our arrival and also serviced the property while we were there. The owners were responsive questions we had about the property and quick to address any particular requests.
We had 13 staying in this grand mansion. There is great separation in the 4 bedroom areas and plenty of space in the grand living areas for everyone to either mix or have your own space. All furnishings were new and everything well maintained. The house itself has tons of character and lots of levels and areas to explore. The grounds were equally grand and well maintained with your own forest to wander in.
The area is central to many day visits to other towns and chateaus and elsewhere in the beautiful Loire Valley. There is close access to good food and supermarkets and the food markets in Loche are not to be missed.
Annick looked after us well while there and is a great cook. We recommend having Annick's cooking at least once while you are there.
We all had a fantastic time in the week that we were there and no-one had a bad word to say about our group home.
We would highly recommend staying there.
Driving up the driveway to the chateau you see exactly what you see in the pictures. A group of ten stayed here for a week in May. We each had our own large and comfortable bedroom with separate bathrooms. Kitchen and dining facilities were more than adequate and we used them frequently. I would advise having a catered meal by Annick. It was delicious, abundant and reasonably priced. The weather was unseasonably unpleasant that week so we trekked around the area by car to see the numerous chateaux and wineries. There is a small town near the chateau that has several good restaurants and numerous places to obtain food. We were disappointed the weather did not allow us the pleasure of using the pool. The owner was inviting and most helpful in providing guidance about the area. Actually, I would have liked to have spent more time with her! I would recommend this place if you want to enjoy a rural French vacation.
Mont Felix is very special. Wonderfully grand but warm and welcoming, a rare combination. We have holidayed there three times with different combinations of friends/ family and all have been enchanted. we look forward to planning our next visit.
You should see at least two Grand Chateaux when you visit the Loire Valley. There are many to choose from. Loches is a perfect place to explore from because it is in the center of all the Chateaux.
Just look at a map and you will see that one day it is possible to go to Chenonceau for example, which is east, and then check out Leonardo da Vinci's Clos Lucé and Amboise on your way home. A perfect day out. Pick another day and go west and we always reccommend going to Azay le Rideau. It is around 45kms so less than an hour and worth every minute! You can have lunch there after and then why not visit Ussé (Cinderallas Castle) and Villandary Gardens after?
If you are tired of Chateau visiting and maybe the kids would like something different, there is a fantastic Zoo park only 45 minutes away called Beauval. It is a favourite with the French and very entertaining. There is also Futuroscope to the south which is near Poitiers and also an excellent day out for the whole family.
Nearby to Loches is a nice Lake with pedalos only 20mins called Chemillé. It is right next to Montressor which has a fantastic 19th century perfectly preserved Chateau for you to explore. One of our favourites and very close. Also there is a nice restaurant on the Lake of Chemillé which is worth a visit too.
Do not forget that Loches is a Royal Medieval Citadelle which is only 3 miles away and stunning. There are also two markets in Loches one on a Wedneday and another on a Saturday. Both finish at 12:30pm and both are food markets with some excellent local produce for the table.
If you are looking for city life with large shopping brands and a Cathederal and Museum of Beaux Arts look no further than Tours. It is only 50 minute drive and caters for all things.
Almost forgot, and what about wine tasting I here you ask! Well Chinon is on our doorstep, only around a 40 minute drive and you will be able to wine taste and stock up. It is another day out and we have expert guides locally who can take you out if need be.
We really think that you could not be better placed in the Loire Valley for exploring, wining and dining or just relaxing. Please take the time to look at a map and notice how central we are to all the attractions. Why situate yourself on one side of the Loire Valley when you can be in the middle?
