About Todd Rodabaugh & Anita Rodabaugh
My wife and i have lived in this house for 31 years. However, we have a place on little lake (15 minutes from house) and we stay there from May until October, so we have decided to rent this house out for those months. I retired from NYS Corrections and was a counselor. My wife is a retired teacher. We have lived in this area our whole lives and love living in the small quite village of Burdett. We both went to Watkins Glen High School and graduated from there and so did our children. We have many friends and family in this community. We raised four children in this home and have many great memories from years gone by from this house. My wife and I love to travel and often found it tough to find a affordable, nice place to stay at times, especially when our children were little, so we have tried to make our house affordable for others to stay while we our not using it. We hope that you may have as much fun as we have had at this house!
Todd Rodabaugh & Anita Rodabaugh purchased this House in 1986
Why Todd Rodabaugh & Anita Rodabaugh chose Burdett
My wife and i chose to buy this property for a couple of reasons. First as it was affordable at the time (1986) and we love the Victorian style house. However, it need many repairs and it took many years to complete the restorations. Second and probably the most important the Village of Burdett has less than 300 people who live here and it was and still is a great place to raise children. The people who live here in this village are neighborly and care about their neighbors. There never has been much crime in this village -"neighbors look out for neighbors" in this village, and the school (Watkins Glen) is excellent. Third reason we bought this house is it is on the corner and has plenty of yard all the way around house. Finally, we live here, because we are off the beaten path, but only minutes from Watkins Glen and are only 25 minutes from Ithaca, and Elmira.
What makes this House unique
This house is a Victorian style house, has a huge 600 sq foot living room, 2 porches and a patio. There is 4 bedrooms. We have always loved the upstairs in this house, in the stair way there is a window that is stained glass and when the sun shines through it, the colors are amazing! Plus we are less than five minutes from Seneca Lake and Watkins Glen, We are just close enough to Watkins so it is a quick drive, but far enough away so one can rest peacefully at night. We are within 25 minutes of Ithaca (Cornell) and Elmira. The house is in the middle of the Finger Lakes, and one can be at any one of the Finger Lakes in less than an hour. We have the Finger Lakes National Forrest and Watkins Glen State Park within a five minute drive and many other State parks within 25 minute drive or less. Watkins Glen is only 2 miles away with its beautiful Gorges and world famous race track only 5 miles away.. The Seneca Lake Wine and Beer Trail start .05 miles from our front door!

Todd and Anita are very nice and the property was perfect for a girls weekend away! We were very comfortable and felt at home in their quaint house. Would definitely recommend!
Unclean, poorly supplied home.
Although we booked 2 nights at this home in Burdett, we left after the first night because the place was unclean and poorly supplied.
We were particularly taken aback by the mouse droppings under the pillow on the bed in one of the three upstairs room.. The dresser drawers were dirty and full of stones - not sure why. I have allergies to dust and mildew, which is rarely a problem when I stay at a VRBO or other similarly rented home, but I had a very bad reaction in this house, meaning there was likely a lot of dust/mildew or both.
There were are also several flies, spiders and spider webs. There was no shampoo or body wash - something that we have come to expect when we stay at a VRBO.
Although the owners were gracious enough to meet us upon our arrival late on a Saturday night, around 11pm, they would not refund our 2nd night.
There was truly nothing unclean or under stock in the house, you never called to complain you just left and gave a poor review. The truth is you only wanted to rent one night originally on a house that has a two night minimum and try to get a refund
Great potential, but disappointing.
Good location and everything was pretty much as advertised. The big issue was overall lack of cleanliness. There was a layer of dirt and grime in many areas - kitchen cupboards, dishes, bathroom shower/sink, bedroom carpet, etc. There were mouse droppings under the bathroom sink. The house could use some TLC (unfinished doors and trim).
We did enjoy coffee on the sunny porch in the morning.
We are sorry you felt the house was dirty, you are the first to ever complain. We clean all dishes and sterilize them. The house is cleaned from top to bottom and all linens washed, every time guest check! out.
Was perfect and cozy!
Perfect location! And quaint house with caring owners that even made a point to meet us on arrival and show is the place as well as see if we had any questions... Beds were comfy too! Well stocked with necessities for your stay as well :)
You all all were great guest and we loved meeting you and having you stay at our house!
Plenty of space for a family to spread out
We appreciated a nice stay. A well stocked house with plenty of space in a good location. Owners are very responsive and thoughtful. We would recommend this house for a group; very convenient to the win trail.
Your family treated our house like it was theirs! Thank you, happy that you enjoyed the area and its wine country.
