The Hobo cottage is situated on a bluff overlooking the Englishman River.
About Marlene Prescott
Hobos Pond Get Away is in its second season. We invite you enjoy a vacation at Hobo's Pond. We will do everything we can to help you enjoy this beautiful place. We purchased our property in 1989. We built a cottage and came here for our vacations until 2001 when we retired and moved here permanently. In 2012 we started building our main house. This now allows us to share our property with guests who can enjoy our cottage. We still are awed by the lush greenery we are surrounded with. Our tall trees and our proximity to the river and our pond are still a godsend. We continue to enjoy our beautiful property and invite you to join us here at Hobo's Pond.

Why Marlene Prescott chose Errington
We purchased this property because we love nature and we love being beside a river. Harvey has been fishing rivers since he was a child. This property has some special features. Almost from our doorstep you can hike all the way to Top Bridge. You can actually hike all the way to Parksville if you are a serious hiker. Top Bridge is a fabulous place with a suspension bridge and pot holes that are a favourite swimming spot for locals and visitors. You can also get to Top Bridge via the main island highway. The entire hike along the Englishman River is very picturesque and there are picnic sites in several locations. This hike allows our guests to enjoy our native trees , salal bushes and ferns just to mention a few native plants. It is a wonderful way to spend an afternoon. This is a moderate hike for anyone who has reasonably good health and good shoes. However it is quite a long hike and guests should be prepared with water and some food as well as sturdy shoes and of course some swim suits.
What makes this Cottage unique
The hobo cottage is very comfortable; it has a lovely large deck where you can look down into the Englishman River. The cottage is cheery with white walls and comfortable furniture. Just off the deck is a fire pit for those lovely evenings when you want to sit out by the fire. The interior of the cottage has an open concept so it creates a nice airy feel. The cottage has real wood floors, that are easy to maintain. There is TV and all the other modern conveniences. It is fully equipped with linen and dishes. The benefits to staying here are the relatively quiet woodsy atmosphere surrounding the cottage. The property offers guests lots of privacy. On the property and surrounding area are many native plants indigenous to this area: huckleberries, salmon berries, rose hips, salal, oregon grape, ferns, cedar - fir and hemlock evergreen trees, skunk cabbage, willows and many more. Even though this property is out of town and in the country it offers the traveller the ability to make quick trips to get food and gas. We are about a twenty minute drive from most amenities. And we are 10 minutes from the General Store at Grafton and Englishman River Road. Many of the property owners in our area raise horses and goats. Some of the farms are large and others are just a few acres. Driving the back roads can be quite a delightful experience and encourage our guests to go exploring.

Peaceful and Tranquil Hideaway
Easily one of the best properties we've ever had the pleasure to stay in. Spotlessly clean, extremely well appointed, this home provided a magical getaway experience for us. To say it was a relaxing environment would be the understatement of the year. Harvey and Marline have created a home away from home that I hope to be able to come back to again. Nestled in the woods just above the pristine Englishman River, this home had it all. Kitchen was stocked with everything we needed, so we made many meals there. Living room had lovely furniture, including easy chairs that I could melt into. Decorated with tasteful lighting, tables and art, it was just so cozy! Spent many a day on the deck overlooking a beautiful forested hillside. Whisper quiet, the only sounds were birds, the river and an occasional plane flying over head. The property was maintained beautifully, with sleeping accomodations for 4 people. It was so homey with so many little touches. Our hosts were absolutely lovely, always going out of their way to make us feel comfortable and getting us anything we asked for. It was the best experience I've ever had renting a home for a vacation - and we've done VRBO and AirBnB many times over the last 8 years. I only hope it's available again next time we want to go there! Thanks Marline and Harvey, you two are the best!!!
Beautiful property with really lovely hosts!
It was very nice having your family stay with us at Hobos Pond. We hope you come back one day. We are thrilled that you went for a swim in the river. We think it is a big part of the charm of staying here at our Get Away.
Beautiful property, cozy cottage in a cedar forest.
We loved our recent stay at Hobo's Pond, situated on a private property surrounded by a cedar forest. Very quiet and peaceful. Wonderful place to come home to after exploring nearby beaches, waterfalls, and mid-island. We will definently be returning. Helpful, friendly hosts on site. Lots of privacy.
We enjoyed having you as our guests and are happy that you found enjoyable places to explore. We look forward to having you return for a future vacation.
Welcoming rural property
Lovely place to stay for our family at the end of our Canadian month
It was a delight to have you here all the way from Sydney Australia. All the best travels for you in the future.
Comfortable house, peaceful setting
We loved our stay at Hobo's Pond! The house was immaculate and comfortable. We loved visiting the baby ducks in the pond and watching the rabbits nibbling the grass every morning and evening. The river is just a short (but steep) hike down the hill behind the house. Our hosts were very welcoming and gave us good tips about the area. It was a great base for lots of outdoor activities: canoeing at Horne Lake, hiking in Englishmen River Park, visiting Cathedral Grove, taking the ferry to Newcastle Island. Highly recommended!
Nina, we enjoyed having you as our guests. We hope you saw the heron that visits the pond in the morning. We know you are birders and would have enjoyed seeing him. We hope you come to visit us again at Hobos Pond.
We had a fantastic stay at Hobo's Pond! Cannot say enough about the gracious and welcoming owners Marlene and Harvey. We didn't even see half of the beauty this property has to offer due to a busy schedule but what we did see was heaven...will definitely be back as we enjoyed the area and property so much! Most tranquil and beautiful setting ever!!! Thank you to Marlene and Harvey for sharing their hidden gem with us 😊
Thank you so much Danielle for the kind review of our property. We enjoyed having you here as our guests and hope you return to Hobos Pond. Harvey enjoyed the fishing discussions. We look forward to seeing you again.
