My description is very long. A Maui vacation is a big expense. You should know every detail about the condo you are renting so there are no surprises or disappointments. I describe in great detail the amenities and benefits of my unit and our complex.

The main photo was taken from the master bedroom, showing how close the beach really is. No unit in our complex is closer. It truly is only 15 steps from the edge of our lanai to the sand. Lovely, 1,050 square foot, Vacation Condo. YOU CAN SWIM IN FRONT (season permitting). A condo that is Oceanfront is not the same as BEACHFRONT. A beach has sand. “Oceanfront” is on a reef or rocks...NO SANDY BEACH. That is why the Oceanfront units are less.

On over two acres with a Heated Pool, Beach Side Shower, 4 BBQ'S, Lounges, Pool Side Eating area and Lovely Tropical Grounds. I updated the condo in 2016 with a NEW Air conditioner, ALL NEW sheets, bath towels, rugs and 2nd bath's ceiling fan was replaced and bought a stroller. A 3rd twin blow-up bed was purchased for extra guests beyond 6. There are 6 Cooling ceiling fans, a Dehumidifier (removes moisture from air), 3 FLAT SCREEN TVs (2015) and 3 DVD/BluRay players (2015).

FOR CHILDREN WE HAVE: A stroller (2016), 3/4 size Crib, a High-chair, Pack & Play, a Baby Gate, Sand Toys, movie and Puzzles. There is FREE Wi-Fi and a Printer, FREE LONG DISTANCE CALLS to the US and Canada, Beach Gear, Boogie Boards, Snorkeling gear, six patio chairs, Games, Movies and a Safe for valuables. Also kitchen has a new dishwasher (2016), condiments and spices (salt, pepper, etc), coffee filters, etc. Lots of extras.

Please read the reviews on the condos you are considering. You don't want to stay in a condo that has had two or three stars, or very few reviews. Reviews are how you will find a good condo.

Compare our direct beach front views to the other units in our complex. Some are 200 feet from the water. We have an Absolutely, Direct Beach Front, Ground Floor, Corner Condo, so no neighbors on one side. Making it more private. Amazing 180-Degree View of Maui's south coast from the front corner master bedroom and Double Sized Lanai (seats 6, not just 4 like all the other condos). Compare the size of our lanai to the one right next door (you can see in the photos and in our 360-degree VIRTUAL TOUR). We also have a wheelchair accessible unit (but not completely not ADA compliant). The previous owner was in a wheelchair. There is a small ramp at the front door, a super wide door into the master bath, and a roll in shower with a ramp and three grab bars. Also our lanai is level with the grass so you can roll right off of it onto the lawn.

We have Traditional bedrooms. No Lofts or rooms that open to the living space by a thin folding wall. Many units in our complex have open master bedrooms, including the ones above us. Our solid walls offer privacy, and a quiet retreat. $2,600 “Select Comfort” King. Each side adjusts to desired firmness or softness. 2nd Bedroom has Pillow top Mattresses on Twins. They can be converted to a 2nd King. We also have a 3rd twin bed that is a blow-up bed. Living Room has Queen Sleeper Sofa. We have Free Parking just steps from the condo. No hassle with having to go up flights and flights of stairs, or walk to the back of the building to take the elevators.

Most people picture in their minds their “Dream” Vacation condo, right on a sandy beach with spectacular views and magnificent sunrises and sunsets. They could swim in front, or take a walk on miles of pristine, un-crowded beach. My 1,050 sq. ft. Direct Beachfront, Ground Floor, Corner Condo could be what you're dreaming of. With so many to choose from, this is my chance to tell you what I think sets mine apart from the others.

Not many condos are this close to a sandy beach. In summer you can swim or snorkel right in front. In winter, watch the Whales from the lanai, out in Maalaea Bay. When you walk in and see the view of the ocean from the living room, you will be delighted. When you go outside, the spectacular 180-degree views of Maui's entire south coast will take your breath away. Every morning, you can watch the sun come up over Haleakala. It is truly, an indescribable experience.

The previous owner was in a wheelchair. He was allowed to enlarge the doorways and the master shower. They are wider than normal. He was given permission to enlarge the lanai to accommodate his wheelchair, plus tables and chairs. It's twice the size of the others. Being on a corner, it extends beyond the normal lanais, increasing our views even further. It has two tables and six chairs instead of the normal four. With a larger group, everyone can be together. It is the only lanai that accommodates the large comfy lounges.

You can walk right from the lanai to the sand in only 15 steps. Our condo only faces the beach, miles of ocean, Maui’s south coast, Haleakala and the island of Lanai. Surprisingly, some units don't have air conditioning. The unit directly above our condo. During the warmer months (May through October) Maui gets into the 80’s and 90’s (August & September), the humidity can be at 90%. You really need air conditioning. Our condo has air (we installed a NEW AIR CONDITIONER in 2016). There are six cooling ceiling fans and a dehumidifier to remove moister from the air.

The Kanai A Nalu has been rated the best vacation property in Maalaea. On a quiet cul-de-sac there is very little traffic. Our complex is one of three in Maalaea that is on the beach. The other seven are on a rocky reef. Many have distant parking lots and half have coin $$ operated laundry rooms. Two are next to the busy Maalaea Harbor, with its traffic, boat engine noise and fumes.

Our condo has its own in-unit washer and dryer, air conditioning, is on beautiful tropical grounds with 4 BBQ's, one of the few heated pools, and a beach side shower. It’s directly on 4 miles of beach that runs parallel to a protected wildlife refuge. On a morning walk you may not run into another person. This is the most un-crowded beach on Maui. It's like your own private paradise.

Many condos have an upstairs 'loft' bedroom, or a bedroom that is completely open to the living room and only closes with a flimsy folding wall. These offer no privacy or insulation from the noise of other guests. Our bedrooms are “traditional” rooms with solid walls and locking doors. In the master is a $2,600 “Select Comfort” King bed. Each side can be individually set to the desired firmness or softness of each guest. Two twin beds with pillow top mattresses in the second bedroom can be pushed together to create another king bed. Both bedrooms have ceiling fans and Cable TV. There is a queen sleeper sofa in the living room. The condo comfortably sleeps six adults, plus small children (we have a crib). Also added a 3rd twin, a blow-up bed (2016).

Our Corner Condo is nothing like the 'interior' units that share two common walls. They have only one window in their master, and their second bedroom window opens to the back facing either a busy walkway, allowing strangers to look in or the noisy parking lot.

Our Corner Condo has NO NEIGHBORS ON ONE SIDE. It is quieter, more private and has incredible views of the beach from the front corner, master bedroom's wall-to-wall windows. Our second bedroom has views of the ocean, the tropical grounds and the pool.

The master bath has a walk-in, over-sized, tiled shower. It has both a hand held and wall mounted shower head. The other bathroom has a full size tub, sliding doors and a shower above. Both bathrooms have cooling ceiling fans, designer accessories and wall mounted hair dryers.

You also have a view of the ocean from the updated kitchen. It has everything. Full size stove, side-by-side fridge, ice maker, dishwasher, microwave, toaster, toaster oven, blenders, coffee maker, cookware, utensils, silverware, dishes, an iron and ironing board, dishtowels and a washer and dryer.

Please compare my condo's rate to the other direct beachfront units. I am very competitive. There are many inexpensive units available. Please look at their photos carefully. Ocean Front, does not mean Beach Front. Some units are over 200 feet from the beach, at the back of the complex. Except for the direct beach front units (that face the sand), the condos in our ”U” shaped complex face each other. People are across from each other hanging out on the lanai and looking into all the other units. Not much privacy. On some of the ground floor units they have so many plants growing around their lanai and windows, there’s not much of a view. Our condo with its corner, ground floor, direct beach front location has a double lanai with fantastic views all the way from Wailea to the Harbor.

I grew up in Southern California. From the time I was a small child, we camped on the beach (in tents) and later in trailers. I loved the beach. As an adult, I visited the Hawaiian Islands. I decided I had to one day own a beach front condo. I searched for years for just the right property. This is my piece of Paradise.

When this condo came on the market I begged, borrowed and talked my grown children into buying it with me. It didn’t take much to convince them. All they had to do was watch a Virtual Tour and they were hooked. After the purchase, we spent more money remodeling and decorating. I keep the relaxed but elegant tropical feel of the condo because that was what we fell in love with. This is a wonderful, relaxing, and inspiring place!! A place where I can walk out , taking approximately 15 steps, and be on a beautiful, Maui beach. Feeling the warm soft sand squeeze between my toes. I can sit on the lanai and have views of the Maui coastline that goes on for miles, or I can watch the waves dance along the sand while my grandchild plays just a few feet away. It’s the Hawaii experience I say in the movies. The experience I dreamed about. This is our little piece of Paradise. And we would like to share it with you.

What makes this condo unique

Why we love this place so much.

It is quiet, elegantly comfortable, romantic (even with kids along) and you will never forget the magnificent views of the beach from the direct-ocean-front location. This condo is closer to a sandy beach then any other condo in the building. Actually, it's closer to a sandy beach then any condo in any of the other buildings on Ma’alaea Bay. There may be condos that are closer to the water (with a rocky no-beach shoreline) but none are closer to a beautiful white sands beach that you can walk on or swim in. Why do I know this? I have been coming to Maalaea Bay for over 19 years and have stayed at five of the ten different properties located here. I consider myself to be a very “hard to please” person. I have always looked for a beautiful condo, right on the beach. Most of the ads said their condo was on the 'beach'. The photos all showed a beach in the background but from the angle of the shot I could never tell how close it really was. Unfortunately, I found out after I arrived that usually, there was no beach, only a rugged rocky shoreline. I would actually have to walk a long ways to get to a sandy beach. It made me really scrutinize the ads very carefully.

Our family stayed at Kanai' A Nalu recently. It was our first real family vacation in 12 years. We opted to rent this condo instead of staying at one of the big Maui resorts. Best decision we've ever made!

The location is ideal, convenient to everything! The harbor is within walking distance and there are lovely shops and restaurants. The condo is well appointed and felt like home. But the beachfront access and view from the lanai is what made this vacation so special. Literally, a few steps and you are in the ocean! And the sound of the waves at night made us all sleep like babies! We enjoyed every minute of this vacation and hope to be back soon. Book it, you won't be disappointed!

Hi Diane. My families stay at your condo June 16 - 26 2007 was awesome. It was great to show up and see that the condo and location was just as you described it. It was beautiful and comfortable. Eating our meals together on the lanai with the beautiful ocean view was great. I will definitely keep you in our address book for our return trip to Maui and recommend your condo to everyone. Overall it was a great spot. Centrally located and as I stated the unit was great. The only reason I gave it 4 stars instead of five is the complex is dated and could use some TLC. But again the unit and the owner of the unit are very nice.

Owner's Response: Aloha Brent, Thank you for taking the time to write the review and saying my unit was great in spite of the fact the complex is older. Our complex's property manager, gardeners and maintenance men keep the almost three acre grounds looking beautiful with the pool recently being re-tiled in a dark blue tile, and the building repainted on a regular basis. Thousands of dollars are spent keeping the lawns manicured and the flowering plants looking their best. There are flowering orchids and banana trees (two that produce bananas next to my unit). Almost all the properties in Maalaea the same age, as are many of the properties along the beaches. I am responding because I didn't want future guests thinking the grounds were run down or in need of repair. But, I do realize that an older building, even if the grounds are lovely, may not be to everyone's taste. I hope the age of the building will not keep you away in the future. I thought you were a great guest who left my condo in wonderful condition prior to checking out! Mahalo, Diane

Awesome Location!

The condo is centrally located in Maui and convenient to exploring all of the island, which we did! The ocean is literally steps from the back door and you can walk quite a ways down the beach which we did each morning. The condo is adequate but certainly not equivalent to a 4 or 5 start hotel so it depends what you are looking for. It is a little dated but certainly adequate. The king size bed in the master is very comfortable. The only real negative for us was the lack of central air. There is a room air conditioner which is fine if you are sleeping on the pull out in the living room but it doesn't cool the bedrooms. We opened the windows and turned on the overhead fan which was comfortable and the sounds of the waves lulled you to sleep. However I have arthritis and there is a lot of humidity with the windows opened so would look for central air if going back. We used the beach chairs and bogie boards and you can swim right in front of the condo. There is also a pool but we didn't use as we were off exploring or at the beautiful beaches most of the time. The kitchen has everything that you would need. Diane was very helpful and responsive.

Owner's Response: Aloha Kim, The current air conditioner was six years old. A NEW larger one with more cooling power and a DRY setting to remove excess moisture from the air, was installed in June of 2016. Thank you for taking the time to write a review. I am glad you liked many things about my condo, especially how close it is to the beach and all the amenities we provide our guests (snorkeling gear, beach chairs, ice chests, boogie boards, beach towels, wall mounted hair dryers, 3 flat screen TV, 3 DVD/BluRay players, CD Stereo, free long distance, free wireless internet, games, movies, books, high chair, pack-n-play, crib, plus the Select Comfort, adjustable King. It was expensive, but worth it so my guests have a good night's sleep. I try to provide enough photos of the condo so guests know what they are getting. I even have a 360 degree virtual tour. I don't hide the fact we don't have central air. It is very expensive to install with all the regulations at our complex and the cost to run it would make my rates go up a lot. Besides the air conditioning unit in the living room, I have six ceiling fans to move the air throughout the condo. True, the complex and condo are not 4 or 5 stars, but only being just feet from the beach and a double sized corner lanai with 180 degrees views of Maui's south coast are pretty special. If my condo was 4 or 5 stars, the rates would be at least double. With so many guests using it (many back-to-back), there is wear and tear. My on island property managers address it a.s.a.p. Plus I am on the island throughout the year to do upgrades and replace what it missing or damaged. The condo is a big investment and very close to my heart, that I share with my guests. Since Maui's humidity is usually near 100%, I have provided a portable dehumidifier for our guests to help with that. Possibly with your arthritis, a dryer climate would be better as you can't avoid the humidity while on the Island, or at the condo. To enjoy Maui you need to have the doors and windows open. It is such a magical place, you also have to be outside, to enjoy all that it has to offer. I hope for your next vacation you find a place that meets all your needs. I am truly sorry that my condo did not. I try very hard, but I know that I can't make all my guests 100% happy. Still, thank you so much for renting it. Fantastic Rental and Location

This property sits in a fantastic location. Want to go to the beach? Walk out the back door and 30 or so steps and you're on the sand. Snorkling, surfing, walking along the beach, the pool or you can walk into the small downtown area and get a bite to eat or visit the aquarium.

The owner was very helpful and provided all sorts of information to assist in our visit.

I would highly recommend this rental and personally hope to return for a follow up visit in the coming years.

The Kanai A Nalu is one of only three complexes in Maalaea that is directly on the beach. The others 7 buildings are on a rocky reef (no swimming). Half use coin $$ operated laundry (sit and wait), two are next to the busy Harbor with boat engine noise and fumes, some have distant parking lots (carry the bags) and one doesn't have a pool. Kanai A Nalu is rated the best property in Maalaea. Almost at the end of a cul-de-sac, there is little traffic. Free parking is steps away. It has Tropical Grounds, Lush Lawns, A Heated Pool, Lounges and a Beachside shower. Our beach runs parallel to a Protected Wildlife Refuge. Endangered Turtles lay their eggs here. No development is allowed along this beach. It runs five miles, to Kihei. On an early morning walk you may not see another person. Explore tide pools. It's like your own private paradise and the most uncrowded beach on Maui. If you want crowds go to Lahaina, Wailea or Kihei.

Other Activities: Swim, snorkel or boogie board at our beach, just in front of the condo.

The condo is only 12 minutes from the airport.

  • Lovely updated bathrooms. We try to go often to replace worn and damaged items......They have Nickel Plated faucets, hardware, Framed Art on the walls....There are designer Towels (new in 2016) and Bath Rugs. We have Wall-mounted, Hair Dryers in each......Due to the previous owner being in a Wheelchair, he created a Large over-sized, Roll in or Walk in Tiled Shower in the Master Bathroom. It has both a hand-held and wall mounted Shower Head. The second Bathroom has a Full Size Tub with Sliding Doors and a Shower above. It too has been updated with a Nickel Plated faucet and hardware, framed art on the walls and soft pastel paint. There Are Ceiling Fans in both Bathrooms to keep you Cool And Dry. Ceiling fan in 2nd bath replaced in 2016. We go a couple times a year to buy new towels and do updates.

  • ....Our Corner Condo is NOT like an Interior unit that shares 2 common walls. They only have one window in their Master. Their 2nd bedroom faces a walkway or parking lot, allowing strangers to look in...Ours is a Ground floor, Corner with NO NEIGHBORS on one side...It’s quieter and has Incredible 180-Degree Views from the Lanai and the Master bedroom's windows, that face both sides of the beach...The 2nd bedroom has views of the beach and the pool. Some units have loft bedrooms or the type that is open to the living room and closes with a thin folding wall, offering no privacy. Ours are Traditional Rooms with solid walls and locking doors. They each have Ceiling Fans, Cable TV, Beautiful decor, bedding and wood blinds. Enjoy the $2,600 Sleep Number's, King Size Bed. Each side individually adjusts to your Desired Firmness or Softness. There are comfortable pillow top mattresses on the Twins. Push together for a 2nd King. We have a Queen sleeper sofa, crib and and extra blowup twin.
