amazing home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed at this beautiful home for 5 days. The house was very cozy and spacious, even for a group of 15 adults there was plenty of space. The house was very clean and organized, the kitchen spacious and fully stocked. The fire place and hot tub and sauna made it for a very relaxing night after a day on the slopes. The downstairs gameroom was pots of fun with the pool table and couches to lounge around. Would go back here without a second thought. The owner was very accessible any time of the day and was a great help.

Good, not great

  • 3 of 5

The good: This is a nice cabin/house by all means. Good heating system, very nice interior, all wooden tables and chairs, good insulation. Big garage, good place to put your skis in, or any equipment you don't want to leave outside. Very good looking house inside and out, no doubts of ifs of buts.

The bad: The fireplace: Need to make sure you open the vent properly, or you will be having smoke in all the cabin and fire alarm monitors screaming at you.

The garage : filled with crap, and although it could fit 4 cars easily, there is no space even for one. But that is not important to everyone, only to car enthusiasts like me...

The cabin is filled with "do not" . We called it the Do Not House. Do not open the windows in winter. Do not leave the tap open. Do not drop this or that into the toilet. Do not use... etc. etc. you will read one of these stickers anywhere you look. Literally.

The biggest annoyance was when we realized that it only has in reality 4 bedrooms, even though it is advertised as a 5 bedroom house. The "5th" bedroom is an entry room to the sauna, which is nice in it's own right, and a feature many homes do not have, for which I actually gave it one of the 3 stars.

Kitchen: not enough glasses, not enough plates, not enough cutlery to feed 12 people, let alone 16 for which it is advertised.

Location:Very far away from the slopes. The approximate location that you see when you book it is very close to Sunday River Ski area, but when you need to drive to it, you realize you have 11 miles, due to the fact that you go south for 5 miles, as the only bridge across the river is there.

Bottom line. Nice, maybe very nice for 4 families; maybe 10 or less, who do not want to ski every day, with no intent to cook and want eat out every night (Where ????) . Otherwise, maybe it's best to keep looking.

Over and out.

Owner's Response: As always we appreciate customer feedback, as it can only make us better and improve our future guests experience. Our number one priority is to make our home a clean, safe and comfortable place for our guests to enjoy their family and friends. That being said, we have been renting our home since 2005 and this is the first negative review we have ever received in over 10 years. We encourage all to note the other 61 (5) star reviews. This particular guest commented on the house having great insulation. One attribute to having great insulation leads to another of the guests observations, which was on the fireplace draft. Having such a weather tight house causes the natural draft in the fireplace to cease during hours of non-use. So we leave a small, label that says "Please open a door for a moment when starting a fire". Had you followed the instruction above, opening the door would have caused the draft to quickly return and you would not have got smoke in the house. Which leads to another of your comments about the multiple labels left for our guests. It has been our experience that informing our guests leads to a smoother and less hassle free visit. I assure you every label was done in response to a prior guest having an issue operating whatever is labeled. Our past feedback from our guests has been praise for us leaving labels explaining how to operate the multiple devices in our home. I wanted to thank the guest for his admiration of our garage, but the garage is not listed nor is it pictured in our advertisement. So to comment on something that is not part of the rental we find particularly unfair. We allow access to the garage for storage of trash barrels and ample room for any equipment as an option. Similarly, your comment on the 5th bedroom and distance to Sunday River. Our website clearly states the distance to all ski areas as well as a detailed google map of all accessible roads to and from. And the 5th bedroom is properly described and pictured on our website. So complaining about something that is clearly pre-described leaves us puzzled. I wish you had let us know of your concerns about dishware as we have extra stored in our owner's closet. We have never had a complaint about not having enough, but this is something we should have not missed. However, due to your review, 2 brand new sets of 20 on their way. We thank you for the feedback and we thank you for staying with us. Owner, Eric Easley

Great Summer Weekend Getaway

  • 5 of 5

Our stay was fantastic. I had a group of old friends meet here for a weekend getaway and we couldn't ask for more- there's ample space, a nice deck, it's quiet, and there's plenty of entertainment. What makes this lodge great is that it has room outside to have a fire, play horseshoes or just hang out, and the inside is very cozy and spacious. The owners are responsive and very nice as well. I would recommend this place in a heartbeat!

Beautiful Mountain Home!

  • 5 of 5

Found the home to be exactly as it was described in the listing. Beautifully decorated and very secluded which was great. Really enjoyed the river across the street for a refreshing swim. Look forward to visiting again in the winter!

Memories

  • 5 of 5

What a great "cabin". We spent a week with our grandson's family (3 kids: 7, 6 & 2 1/2). Family had a fantastic time! Kids enjoyed the bunk beds, game room, sitting around the camp fire and watching stars from the hot tub. We cooked in every night, kitchen has everything you could need. Great Weber Grill too, cooked steaks to perfection and slow cooked beer can chicken (yum). We took advantage of the surrounding area too: fished, went 4 wheeling and took a day trip to Storyland. Adults enjoyed sitting on the expansive deck in the morning having our coffee before the kids got up and enjoying a glass of wine on the deck in the evening recapping the days activities. We created lots of "memories" :-)

Owner's Response: Eric and Jen are so happy to share their beautiful log home with people. It's a great place to relax and make memories with family and friends. And Bethel is a four season resort area for wonderful activities. This turn key house just makes it that much easier.
