This turn-of-the-century converted barn is tailor-made for a large family. Located on five pastoral acres in the heart of rural Dutchess County, this light-filled home has two master-bedroom suites , two other bedrooms, a den, and sun room. The lower living level features country kitchen with fireplace, exposed beams, walkout to private patio overlooking lawns and pond. The main level has a living room with fireplace and balcony, two bedrooms and two baths. Upper level is spacious master bedroom suite with vaulted ceilings, large sitting area and office. The grounds alone will keep the kids occupied for hours—catch frogs at the pond, explore the woods, walk the private trails, or play on swing set that takes center stage on the enormous back lawn. Midtown Manhattan is a 90-minute drive. Or take the Amtrak or Metro-North. It is just miles from the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies.
I live in New York City and bought this home when our kids were little. We have enjoyed so many fun times with family and friends and open our home to you to do the same.
Cindy Nelson purchased this house in 2004
This property sits on five acres on a quiet street. Perfect for entertaining, watching children play in the yard, bbq'ing with friends or just relaxing in the hammock. It is located within a few miles of the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies where guests can enjoy yoga and meditation classes.
Stone patio with fireplace, swimmable pond stocked with fish, hammock nestled between breezy trees. Two master bedroom suites for friends to share.
very pleasant home with a cheery open kitchen/dining/living area. Very familty friendly and the owners/managers were very considerate and responsive.
A big thanks to Cindy and Mike for sharing their beautiful home with us. Spacious and comfortable, this secluded hideaway was the perfect landing for a fall visit to the Hudson Valley. Our destination was the Sheep & Wool festival, but we were conveniently housed for visits to the Vanderbilt and Roosevelt historic sites at Hyde Park, as well as Wilderstein and Claremont. The Old Rhinebeck Aerodrome and the wine trail were an unexpected treat! So much more to see and do, we're anxious to return to this house on Pumpkin Lane. My only regret was that the time was too short to fully take advantage of all of the amenities that this lovely place has to offer!
Great house, beautiful yard. Kids loved the trampoline and the little pond with the canoe. Adults loved the kitchen/sunroom and grilling on the porch. One problem with the functioning of the fridge during our stay, but very knowledgable property manager fixed the problem right away. It was a lovely place to stay for our party of 8 (6 adults, 2 kids) and we'd love to go back! Highly recommended.
This home is a wonderful. My family and I stayed for five days and it was terrific experience. The location is ideal - close to nearby towns but very secluded. The interior has rustic charm and modern amenities. The kitchen/dining area is particularly nice with open views to the pond and next to the sun room. We loved every minute!
The owners of this home have done an immense amount of thoughtful work to make this converted barn an excellent Hudson Valley getaway. Highlights include: a great pond view with a canoe; a patio / den with windows on three sides; lots of patio space on the entire South side of the home with the left patio covered to provide outdoor time even if it rains; immaculate bathrooms; lots of bedrooms and the 2nd den on the first floor is good for a teenager liking TV and works as an extra bedroom too. Nice modern kitchen and hewn beam ceilings throughout the house. Location-wise its along a small country road that receives no traffic, it's a five minute drive to a local café in Clinton, 15 minutes to the dining paradise of Rhinebeck and a little more to the Bard College music festival. The owners take great pride in their home and made it really easy to arrange the stay. With a classic view toward the pond this is the perfect location for relaxing and visiting the Hudson Valley.
We held our small wedding here in 2006 and our guests are still talking about it. The little hill with big trees is the perfect spot to take your vows while the lake and forest make a wonderful backdrop for photos. The house was perfect for a week of wedding prep with a few family members and friends. One of the bedrooms would only fit small children. The owners did limit the event to 50 people which fit our needs just fine. While the property is certainly large enough to host more people, we were able to utilize the space to our advantage. Our guests absolutely loved it. But be forewarned, this is not the place for a turnkey wedding. The kitchen is great for family cooking, but not for an event. Fortunately we are event producers so brining in a tent, grills, restroom trailer, etc. didn't deter us. The location is fantastic. Seconds from the Taconic but you wouldn't even know its there. Walk down to the cool little general store for breakfast. It's truly a quaint, small town feel just a few hours from the city. Rhinebeck has good dining and easy to reach. Tons of sightseeing, fishing, boating, hiking or shopping nearby. It is wonderful for a summer rental or even just a one week getaway. The owners are very nice people and take great pride in their property. They treat it as their home and not a rental, which is why it's so beautiful and comfortable.
