MidCoast and Penobscot Bay Farmhouse Rental Photos and Description

Farmhouse, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)

We have a saying here in Maine - 'If you are lucky enough to live in Maine, then you are lucky enough!' Maine's midcoast brings that saying to mind again and again with its rolling hills, picturesque rocky shores, and quaint harbor towns and we love to share that with our visitors.

Our old New England farmhouse, built in the 1890's, provides its visitors with the perfect location to experience all that the Midcoast has to offer. Stroll the shared back gardens at the farmhouse or relax with a cup of tea and a good book while gazing over beautiful Penobscot Bay. Take a walk one half mile to Lincolnville Beach where you'll find 4 restaurants, a variety of shops, the Islesboro Ferry terminal, and the only stretch of beach found along US Highway 1 in Maine. Hop in your car and drive 5 miles south into Camden, believed by many to be one of the prettiest of Maine's many harbor towns, or drive 12 miles north to Belfast to visit many of the shops, art galleries, and restaurants located in these beautiful New England towns. We are located only 3 miles from the entrance to Camden Hills State Park where you can drive to the top of Mt. Battie or put on your hiking boots for an invigorating walk through the hills overlooking the bay. The possibilities are endless. The Midcoast is home to the award-winning North Atlantic Blues Festival held in Rockland in mid-July, and the world famous Maine Lobster Festival held at the beginning of August. And if you would like to visit the Midcoast in the winter, then you can't miss the National Toboggan race at the Camden Snow Bowl ski resort held every February. Experience many of Maine's fairs, festivals, and other fun activities, each only a short car ride away.

The farmhouse rental unit has two second story bedrooms, a cozy livingroom, dine-in kitchen, full bathroom, and small library. We hope to be your home away from home while you explore Vacationland. Contact us if you would like more information or would like to see more interior pictures.

We look forward to hearing from you to plan your summer visit or just for a weekend getaway.

Guestbook comments from the owner

Wish we had one more day to simply "hang around" this lovely property and enjoy your garden. Loved staying in this house. I had everything we needed and we so appreciated the immaculate bathroom with plush white towels.

The weather was gorgeous; mostly sun, cool temperatures, with only two afternoons of rain. We enjoyed Acadia, mostly in the fog, but gorgeous nonetheless. We waterskied with friends who have a home on Norton Pond. We loved the Farnsworth Museum in Rockland and our trip up Mt. Battie on our first day gave us the "lay of the land". We discovered some great restaurants including the Slipway in Thomaston with its outstanding, fresh seafood and lovely outdoor location on the waterfront.

Thank you, Steve and Gretchen, for a great stay!

Cozy, beautiful garden setting nestled between mountains and the Bay.

  • 5 of 5

Perfect size for the two of us for a week. We had good weather and found new trails nearby every day, often the only walkers. Day trips to Camden, BarHarbor and Acadia, and out of the way lighthouses were great! Enjoyed meeting Grechen and Steve and got good advice on where to hike. Food choices were unlimited and always tasty! Recommend the Friday night pizza at Dolci Vita. The stairs are steep, just as shown, so need to be considered if that might be an issue for you. This was our first trip to Maine and we thoroughly enjoyed the farmhouse and gardens as our home for the week.

Clean friendly beautiful!!!

  • 5 of 5

What a terrific time I had in Maine during our summer visit!! The Henderson's are a wonderful welcoming family!! We felt immediately at home in their historic farmhouse with beautiful gardens and a view of the ocean on the horizon!! The home is easy to find and immaculate! It's location close to the quaint little town of Camden is especially appealing to our family.

I have to admit that with a crazy life including four children college age to elementary and a husband with a disability, I had a conflict come up with my scheduling. The Henderson's were so understanding and accommodating!! When I reached out with concerns they responded in a timely and professional manner.

I cherish the entire experience and would highly recommend staying in this home away from home!

Great Garden, Bad Traffic

  • 2 of 5

My family and I love to visit the midcoast in July because there is so much to see and do with the ocean, mountains, museums and food!! Usually we rent homes simply to eat and sleep. Upon our arrival, the owner was welcoming. We slept there 5 nights (literally 100 yards from Route one traffic) and were sleep deprived upon leaving our vacation with semi trucks, motorcycles and cars buzzing by all hours of the night and morning. The back yard is a lovely sanctuary. The home (a duplex with owner occupying one side) has a stocked kitchen with washer and dryer. The bedrooms are upstairs,up a steep set of stairs and the mattresses, very uncomfortable.

Owner's Response: Marya - We were sorry to read that your stay was not all that you had expected. We strive to provide the best accommodations we can for our guests even though there are some issues of complaint that are out of our control. The farmhouse was built over 100 years ago and the staircase was built to accommodate the small interior of the house, so yes, it is rather steep, but it is an architectural feature we are unable to alter. The farmhouse is also located on Route 1 which allows easy access to all that the Midcoast has to offer, but can be a bit of an annoyance with the heavy summer traffic. We try to provide our guests with a sound machine and fans to help create a noise buffer and often they report that after the first day or two it is no longer a problem. Obviously this was not the case with your family and we are very sorry about this, but it is unfortunately something beyond our control. It is an issue that affects many of the pricier inns and bed and breakfasts along Route 1 in Camden as well. We take that into account when setting our rates. However, with your comments regarding lack of sleep, we will be looking for additional ways to help create sound buffers. And finally you commented on the uncomfortable mattresses. Again, we are sorry that you found them to be uncomfortable. Many of our guests have reported the exact opposite, stating that they found the beds to be very comfortable. Perhaps this is a matter of opinion, however, in the effort to create the best vacation experience we will see what we can do to improve them for our future guests. Once again, I'm sorry that you found your stay lacking and wish we could have done more for you while you were here. Of course, we were only made aware of these issues after the fact. Thank you for your review as it will help us continue to improve the rental. All the best to you and your family - The Hendersons

Great Location - Cozy Rental

  • 3 of 5

Centrally located - enjoyed the quaint Lincolnville Beach and surrounding restaurants (short walk from rental). This house was rented for a family of 4 (two teenagers). Enjoyed all the surrounding coastal towns, especially Camden where we went out on a Lobster Boat. Mount Battie in Camden was well worth it as well, nice views of bay and Mt. Acadia and can be reach by a nice small hike or by car. Town of Belfast is a nice town north and has lots of great restaurants and shops. Visited Owls Head Transportation museum and town, which was quite nice. Rental itself was small but more than enough room. Two bedrooms upstairs were accessed by very, very steep stairs. Wouldn't recommend to anyone with health issues, and the bathroom is on the 1st floor. The kitchen was well equipped and beach chairs were provided if needed. Road is noisy being right on Route 1, but we got used to it after the 1st night. Owners were very accommodating and even set up the fire pit for us on the last night. Overall we enjoyed our stay and appreciate the stay at an old farmhouse as opposed to a traditional hotel. Limited channels on TV, but didn't really need it any.. lots to do in the area. Next time we hope to make time to get up to Acadia and cannot wait to come back to this part of Maine. Thanks so much.

Not that cozy

  • 3 of 5

We stayed at the Lincolnville farmhouse in June 2015 for 5 days. When we arrived, the owner Steve, was very friendly to us. However we got the impression they were not really prepared for our stay although it had been booked since January. The yard was quite messy and there was a lot of junk in the entrance to the home. The owners live on the other side. This was generally not a problem because they were quiet and we didn't see much of them, although we could hear the kids running around sometimes and whenever they were doing laundry or running a bath we could hear it. When we entered the house it smelled quite musty. The bathroom and bedroom were clean, so we were glad. But the kitchen had cobwebs in the corners and the cabinets and counters were sticky. The house itself is very cute. However the stairs are very steep to the bedrooms upstairs. You have to go downstairs to the bathroom which is right off the kitchen and there are no blinds in the upstairs hallway or in the kitchen. They did provide bathrobes. The mattress was extremely uncomfortable and creaked very loudly whenever we moved. Overall this property needs some improvement but has potential. We loved Maine and the area of Lincolnville beach and Camden are convenient and cute. We loved the lobster shack in Lincolnville and the Whales Tooth Pub.

Owner's Response: We were disappointed to read that you were not completely satisfied with your stay at the farmhouse. We strive to make our guest's experience here on the Midcoast favorable so when we read about something after the fact, we feel disappointed that we were not given the opportunity to make alterations during your stay. We appreciate your comments and we have already taken steps to improve the rental in ways that we can (sheer curtains in the stairway & kitchen windows for instance). Thank you again for staying with us.

A New England Gem

  • 5 of 5

Can't say enough about how great the place and the hosts were. Place was very clean and our family of 4 (including 2 teenagers) had plenty of room. Kitchen was very functional and surrounding grounds were beautiful. Maybe it was the cool Maine weather in July or the extremely comfortable bed but haven't slept that great on vacation in years. Quaint and functional inside the place was tastefully decorated-it was all we thought it would be and then some. Got some great tips from the hosts on what to do to explore the various treasures of the mid coast of Maine outside of the tourist traps. Hosts were an invaluable resource to ask where to eat or what is off the beaten path to explore. Location is centrally located so we were able to go north to Acadia and also explore lighthouses on the mid-coast. Great for day trips the location was great to explore lots of diverse areas from Bald Rock Mountain, Rockport, Camden, Rockland, Lincolnville, Bar Harbor, Belfast and many other amazing places. Make sure to hit Millers Seafood and Capt Jacks Lobster Tour for a great New England experience. We were sad to leave but felt like we had the quintessential Maine vacation because of the central location, physical amenities, and wonderful hosts. You know its a great trip when your teenage children ask when they can go back an hour after leaving. When we return we have found our home away from home and have already forwarded the listing to friends and family. If you are looking for a place that you can use as a base, relax after a day of exploring or enjoy while on vacation this is the spot for you.
