This was great love of room for all eight us. The dining was perfec for a group to us. Loved hanging around the property. The kitchen was well equipment.
Water Issue - ice cold pool, cold hot tub and drenched outside seating areas
We could've overlooked some of the "oddities" and dirty antiques and the filthy couch in the "man cave" which none of us would even touch let alone sit.
When we arrived the pool was empty and in the process of being refilled with water that was too cold to swim even after 3 days as there isn't a heating system. We were not forewarned of this issue. The hot tub wasn't ready to use (cool water) and took most of the second day to get hot.
Then to cap off our wonderful experience, we received a message stating the watering system would turn on at 2:00 am the morning we were leaving and would we remove the outdoor seating cushions. I think it's odd to have sprinklers come on during our stay, and we asked last minute to remove cushions. Ooops, the watering system timer was set incorrectly which caused the water to come on the morning of our second day. The water "sprinkled", no sprayed would be more like it, for 6 hours, wetting down the front porch area, the side yard sitting area and the pathway to the hot tub. A little more than the inconvenience the owner stated. There was only the umbrella shade area by the unusable pool to sit outside. The owner is in the process of reimbursing us one day of rent which is good. I hope the owner takes into account this issues for future renters as this could be a wonderful place to stay.
Thank you for your comments. This kind of input helps us to improve ourselves. We've replaced the couch in the den, and updated our maintenance to our pool, hot tub and irrigation systems. We are sorry that you couldn't enjoy your stay, and hope that you received your refund in a timely manner.
The house was so charming! Lots of interesting trinkets to look at!
The entire family enjoyed the pool! Plus the momma & baby deers & wild turkeys were a joy to watch every day! I would definitely recommend to anyone who wants to get away & enjoy time with family! The owner was always attentive whenever I had questions - excellent customer sevice!
Thank you, we are so happy to know that you enjoyed your stay!
Best vacation rental ever!
Our large family has stayed in quite a few vacation rentals over the years, and this was hands down the best one yet! Coming into this house felt like stepping into yesteryear, but with the added luxury of the modern conveniences of indoor plumbing, electricity, wifi, and air conditioning! The atmosphere in and around this spacious home is totally peaceful and calm, making for a very restful place to relax and enjoy our family time together. Lots of fun and fellowship were had swimming in the pool, sunbathing by the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, playing games (on the lawn, in the very inviting enclosed sun porch, and in the living room), as well as gathering for meals around the large dining room table. Having a high chair was a real plus for our mamas with little ones. The kitchen was well-equipped for cooking for our large gang, and it was great having the gas grill for our dinners of burgers, steak, sausages, and chicken. The house was amazingly "sound-proof" for the two grandbabies to nap undisturbed upstairs while the adults were visiting and playing downstairs! We appreciated having the washer and dryer out in the pool house where we could do laundry during our stay. Being able to so effortlessly pick the abundant blackberries from the well-groomed bushes lining the side of the property led to all of us enjoying blackberries on our baked oatmeal for breakfast and a blackberry crisp with vanilla ice cream one evening. Yum! Made me wish I had brought canning supplies to make some jam! : ) The hammock on the front porch was a favorite spot for relaxation, reading, and reflection during our stay. The family room off of the dining room (marked "Office" on the door) was the perfect spot for the guys who had to work some during the days we were there. Wifi worked flawlessly! Watching the two mama does, each with a set of twin fawns, and the family of turkeys out on the lawn in the evenings was a delight to all. This home is the one vacation rental in which our family has stayed which I definitely would come back to in the future!! It is awesome!
Wonderful getaway for a small group!
Loved our stay in this charming farmhouse. Arrival was super easy with the lock box code. The house is clean. The kitchen is fully stocked with any cooking utensil/equipment we needed. The beds were comfortable. The air conditioning worked well which was fortunate because it was over 100 degrees while we were there. Wifi was good, and cable worked for those who wanted to watch the World Cup games. The pool was wonderful--complete with noodles and some floaties. Some in our group never left the property because it was so relaxing around the pool. We loved the various gathering areas: the front porch and the living room for conversation; the dining room and sun room for games. We brought croquet and bocce ball to play on the grass. There was something for every one to do--even without leaving the property.
Minor improvements: We had a bit of trouble finding the bath towels, but eventually did. Don't be shy about opening cupboards and cabinets! Some who want things pristine might be disappointed with cobwebs outside the upstairs windows and other outside items like that. The upstairs didn't cool off to 78 degrees until at least midnight--on those really hot days, it would be helpful for the air to be on earlier than the arrival time of 4:00.
Overall, a great place to visit!
Thank you for your review and we welcome your input. I like your idea of setting the thermostat in advance of your arrival and will incorporate that into our pre-check prior to our Guests'arrival.
Huge rambling farmhouse - comfortable and interesting
The good: house was huge, much larger than even expected & very comfortable. The swimming pool was perfect for the hot weather & very clean. The yard was also large & grassy which was great with a bunch of kids to keep entertained. Lots of beds & a very well equipped kitchen were all great too. Communication with the owners was very easy & had a quick turn around on replies.
The bad: There was a hatchet & a clickable long lighter on the floor in the den by the woodpile. With a pack of kids around & the adults not noticing it until the second day, this was a barely avoided invitation for death/dismemberment/burning the place to the ground. The upper floor on the back side is not impacted by the air conditioning really so it was an oven and we avoided it. The kitchen is a little small & also gets very hot if you're using the stove/it's the afternoon & you haven't been careful about keeping the doors closed to the enclosed back porch (again, kids, we yelled at them to shut the door multiple times a day but did they listen?) Kind of terrifying staircases with kids who insisted on playing weird kid games that had them running around a lot. Also very steep stone ones from the back enclosed porch to the pool with no railing (I totally fell down these when they were slippery wet from pool water but I had also been drinking so it's kind of up for debate what caused the tumble).
This may seem like a lot of bad & not enough good but nothing actually disastrous happened. No one lost any limbs to hatchets! The house is ridiculously huge & nicely appointed & such a great location, easy to get to from California and northern Oregon, large enough for 4 families with 4 kids, we saw deer in the yard several times & loved watching the birds come eat from the feeders in the big windows. The pool was MARVELOUS & we spent most of every day in it. The front porch with the hammock & rocking chairs & porch swing was a delightful respite & cool almost all day long with the sun behind the house in the afternoon. We also loved keeping an eye out for the feral cats who live in the garage though we could not convince them to be friends with us.
If you aren't taking kids here, this place is perfect! If you are taking kids, just maybe move the hatchet and lighter out of reach immediately. =)
Defintely recommended & would stay again.
