About Linda Lange

I am the owner's daughter, grandaughter to Del and Mary Layton, and I manage the property for my mother. I grew up in Miami and came to the Keys often as a child with my grandparents, spending many summers here with them. I remember fondly the 'long' drives down on the rough roads and the rattling draw bridges in the back seat of the Chevorlet Impala with Pat, the family dog. After marrying and having two sons, we continued coming down to see my grandparents each chance we could, bringing friends and church groups to enjoy our blessings. Mary and Del were gracious, enjoyed people and were loved by all that knew them. I hope to continue sharing the joy that the Layton House has brought to so many over the years as families and friends build lasting memories.

Why Linda Lange chose USA

This property has been passed down from my grandfather, Del Layton, to his daughter, Aileen Howard. He founded this little piece of paradise in the Middle Keys after selling his grocery business in Miami in the late 1940's to follow his dream. You can read the history in his biography, Pioneer in the Florida Keys. The property is very spacious, tranquil and private.

What makes this estate unique

The Layton property is one of the most beautiful in the Florida Keys with views of the Bay, gorgeous changing sunsets, and swaying palm trees from the many windows in the home. The huge kitchen with a large semi-circular bar area is the gathering place for young and old to cook, eat and enjoy each other's company. Pictures displayed around the home recall moments from the past. The large circular fresh-water pool, surrounded with native landscaping, is a fantastic place to unwind and relax before grilling your catch and having dinner in the tiki.

Nice house with great kitchen, however...

  • 3 of 5

This house is large enough for 10 people and the kitchen is well equipped.

But this is so odd..... the owner kept $50 of our security deposit because we had guests over one of the days. We had two adults and 3 children (under the age of 6) come from 1:00 pm - 10:00 pm. Apparently due to wear and tear and utilities it's not allowed. I would totally understand if they had tried to spend the night - but they just visited.

The chairs out back do provide for a beautiful sunset!

Owner's Response: We appreciate all feedback, Jane. In an effort to keep our beautiful two-acre waterfront property maintained to our high standard for our guests, we limit our residential occupancy to ten people. "Property is limited to named guests" is stated on our contract and all guests must be registered due to liabilities. (Crazy world we live in.) We enjoy hosting special events and weddings as well. Whether two or 200 guests, all seem to enjoy this piece of paradise my grandfather carved out. Glad you all had a good time as well and were able to relax and experience our gorgeous Florida sunsets. I want to thank you for staying at the Layton House and hope you have a wonderful summer.

Large Gulf Side Secluded Property

  • 5 of 5

My family of 8 enjoyed our stay at Layton House. The huge, beautiful kitchen and gazebo with grill are great for cooking at home. All the beds are very comfortable and the first floor bathroom has been updated nicely. The upstairs master open loft is very large and has 2 bathroom areas. Because it's open, the noise from downstairs carries if you go to sleep before the rest of the group. Our 6 year old loved the pool behind the house, the front of the house has great views. While the dock was being worked on while we were there, some of our group still enjoyed fishing from the property shore. Linda was a great host. She arrange for kayaks to be brought to the property for the week. The house and all the property was very clean and well maintained. I recommend the Layton House for a large group looking for privacy. It's about 20-30 minute drive into Marathon if you're looking to go to local restaurants.

Best location in the keys

  • 5 of 5

Spacious accommodations to fit our extended family of 7, very clean, no other Florida rental property has this much land @ this price. No neighbors, also a plus to us, who live on an island, in the woods. Have booked twice, will book again

Myself and 4 buddies rented this house for a guys weekend in January. We had a great time, the house is equipped with everything we needed to cook and relax! We were new to the keys and the location was good to explorer both North and South. We were also in close proximity to many fishing charters and options. Our favorite part of the house was the Gazebo out by the water. We spent many hours laying on and lounging on the comfy furniture while eating off the grill. Linda was responsive, hospital, and provided us with a great home-base for our long weekend. Highly recommended!

Owner's Response: You guys were so quiet I hardly knew you were here on the property! I'm happy to hear the Layton House worked out well for your retreat from the cold and that you were able to explore the beautiful Florida Keys. Come back and see us anytime your schedules permit. Be blessed in 2017!!! LL

Fabulous Christmas Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

We were 2 families equalling 10 people with lots of kids. We arrived to Christmas decorations and a beautiful tree! The week was WONDERFUL!!!! We didn't want for anything, just more time!

We explored, swam and sunned at the pool, snorkeled from shore, kayaked, fished, walked, scootered, played ball, star gazed and reveled in amazing sunsets.

The Layton House is a wonderful retreat with unreal views. So many perfect gathering places to enjoy each other or quiet time. I could go on and on but have to mention Linda, the perfectly gracious host who is a wealth of information and did everything she could to make us feel welcome and at home. We would all go back in a heart beat!!

Best place

  • 5 of 5

Our family has been going to Layton House for 7 summer vacations. Linda, our landlord, has become a personal friend and she will make sure you have everything you need.

Layton House has plenty of parking room (hard to find in the keys), large dock, fish cleaning tiki hut, sunsets from the kitchen window and outside so you can make your own "wish you were here cards". Inside the home, the totally remodeled kitchen, outside the updated gazebo.

Walk around, grill, sit on the dock and fish, take pictures, swim in the pool, cook up a great family meal, bring your boat, all this on your own private estate. The history about the Layton family is a wonderful story that you become part of during your stay. We are already booked for 2017!
