Our descendants all come from Cape Breton and moved to Halifax and Boston in the early 1900's but Cape Breton is where our heart's are. Three generations of family come back each year to this very special part of the world that is so beautiful and a respite from the heat and pace of city life.
Katie Fagan purchased this cottage in 1968
Our parents were avid sailors and The Brasdor lakes provide some of the best saling in the world. Our property is right on the water with spectacular views so they fell in love with the property on their cruises throughout the lakes back in the 50's.
This a two hundred acre property with two cottages. The main house offers a great family gathering place and the additional cottage offers great privacy. There is a brand new expansive deck that is wonderful for taking in the spectacular views and reading books.
Our family stayed at this property last summer, and though we are very
familiar with this part of Cape Breton, the house and surrounding land,
views and access to the water gave us a whole new appreciation of how
beautiful and peaceful the Bras Lakes are. The cottages are cosy, very
comfortable, tasteful and welcoming; the deck is fantastic on a hot summer
day just to laze around on. We had a fantastic holiday and this was very
much a result of staying at this beautiful property!
I was travelling with 7 other adults and this property couldn't have suited us better. All three cottages were clean and we felt right at home. Having the three separate living places everyone had their personal space. The view was breath taking. Katie and Jamie were wonderful to communicate with, response time was very quick. I would definitely rent their vacation rental again. 10 out of 10.
Thanks for the memories
We spent a week at this wonderful property in Big Harbour NS just outside of Baddeck. The views were magnificent and the cottages wonderful. Easy access to the town for supplies and within short driving distances of everything on the island you could want. Swam and fished each day. Weather was perfect for late summer.
Owners were very helpful in providing all information needed and more.
This property turned out to be a perfect location for touring Cape Breton, very central and convenient with beautiful views of the lakes and just minutes to Baddeck when we needed a little "civilization." The four of us had way more than enough room, with two staying in the main house and two in the adjacent cottage, we didn't need the lower cottage but it too was very nice. The house is well-stocked with everything you need for cooking, trips to the beach and cleaning plus fun amenities like games and lots of books to fill the down times. The hammock on the deck got a lot of use too! The owners are very friendly and responsive and in fact were staying next door at their boat cottage while we were there. They really know the area and gave us plenty of tips for dining and things to do. The little town of Baddeck was great with several good restaurants, shopping, the excellent Alexander Graham Bell museum and several places to catch a performance of local, traditional music. Cape Breton is big and there are a ton of things to see and do, we hardly scratched the surface in our one week there, I guess we'll have to come back and stay in this amazing house again sometime soon!
The houses and location suited our extended family group, although an additional bathroom in the main house would have made it perfect! The setting is beautiful (but the flying insects sadly prevented us making full use of the great deck areas) and there is lots to see and do on CBI. Car essential! We recommend you visit Louisbourg (make sure you take a sweater as it will be foggy, then stop for dinner at the Black Spoon Bistro in North Sydney on the way back), the artists' studios around St Ann's bay, Acadian Cheticamp and its lovely beach Plage St Pierre (buy a lobster roll at the seafood stop on the way), the Highland Village Museum at Iona and of course Baddeck.
This vacation rental is perfect for families. The cottages have amazing views. These views were an excellent way to start your day. We used the main cottage for cooking and dinners. Great for all ages. Baddeck was a short distance with restaurants and small shops. National Park 1.5 hours approx. Worth the drive. Inverness had the most amazing beach. This was about an hour drive. Owners were very helpful.
A couple of things to keep in mind:
You do not have access to the water for swimming from rental units.
The bugs were very bad, which made it impossible to sit outside for any length of time. This was due to the late start of the season. The winter was long and hard this year and made July more like May/June. Bugs are not typically an issue in July. It did put a bit of a damper on the trip as the decks are so awesome at these properties. They call for gathering with friends and families. We would have liked to have used it more. Otherwise this spot is an excellent get away. I couldn't find the words to describe how beautiful Cape Brenton is.
Wow, what an impressive setting for this small group of cabins. Our group arrived over several days. Each of us had a private space. We really had peaceful awakenings here north of baddeck. Combine that with the wonderful music of the area. Highly recommended. Met all my expectations
Golfers will love this location! These cottages are half way between Cabot Links (Just developed by Bandon Dunes!) in Inverness and Highland Links in Ingonish and just 15 minutes from Bell Bay Golf Club and the town of Baddeck. This beautiful property can easily accommodate two foursomes.
Baddeck is the 'Hub of The Cabot Trail' which offers numerous restaurants, Afternoon sailing on The Amoeba and is home of the Alexander Graham Bell Museum.
Golf: Bandon Dunes of Oregon has just opened ''Cabot Links' in Inverness which is less than an hour away on the beautiful Cabot Trail via the Margaree Valley to the ocean. This is the only truly 'links' course in Canada. Be sure to stop in at the Red Shoe Pub to listen in on some of the best fiddlers in the world on your way back to Baddeck.
''Bell Bay Golf Course' is rated as one of Canada's top golf courses. It is located 10 miles from the house. Bell Bay offers spectacular views and outstanding championship golf.
Cape Breton Highlands Golf Course is ranked as one of the top 100 golf courses in the North America. It is approximately 60 mlles north on the Cabot Trail which is a spectacular drive.
