Beautiful location, charming cottage
Although it was a very wet weekend, we enjoyed the view of the lake from the cottage. Clean and everything we needed was provided, ie. dishes, glasses, flatware, linens and towels. We could have used more detail instructions on how to put the heat on and use DVR, but we did figured it out. Owners were very responsive when we couldn't find the right cottage. Would definitely rent again.
Everything was there we needed! Beautiful view, would love to book again!
Beautifully updated cozy waterfront cottage! We loved the bonus bunkhouse!
We really enjoyed our stay at The Hillview Cottage. The view from the house was spectacular and lent itself to beautiful sunsets! The new bunk house was a perfect addition and beautifully decorated. The patio area was perfect for sitting and enjoying the view of the lake. We had a fun time expoloring the lake with the kyacks and paddle boards! Clean, bright, and comfortable cottage that we would highly recommend.
Thanks for your feedback! So glad you enjoyed your stay!
Cottage was nice and the bunk house (separate but right next to the cottage) was great for the kids.
The owners were very responsive. The cottage was nice, had a comfy bed, and most things were in good condition. The bunkhouse, which the kids thoroughly enjoyed, was in like new condition and tastefully done. The patio is huge and is a great spot to eat, read, or just relax and take in nature. The cottage is located adjacent to the public launch, which was extremely convenient for us with our boat. The lake was quiet with very little boat traffic. The lake has some decent bass, bluegill, pike, and is home to a couple of loons which are fun to watch and listen to. The private fire pit is a nice feature to have while watching the beautiful sun sets. The kayaks, paddle boards, and paddle boat are also nice to have.
Not so good:
The smoke detectors were set off the first time we preheated the oven because of all of the buildup in the bottom of it so we had to thoroughly clean that before we could use it. The gas grill, which we also cleaned because of the buildup in the bottom of it, is really cheap and flimsy. We had to fix one of the towel holders as it kept falling off and onto our toes whenever we shut the bathroom door. Not something that we expected to do while on vacation but the owners don't charge a cleaning fee so maybe some of this should be expected. There were ants on the table next to the fridge even though there was no food present. The hot water in the shower only lasts about 3 minutes. The shared beach is gravel (not sand) and the lake itself is pretty weedy. Lastly, it's considered a condo/resort so the caretaker who owns a different cottage in the same resort mows all of the yards together, which I totally understand but he didn’t have to do our yard at 4pm while we were sitting outside on the patio nor did it need to transpire in the manner that it did. Phyllis, his wife, walked up without saying anything and just started moving our chairs that were around our fire pit. As she brought them up to the patio, I asked if she was serious and if her husband was really going to mow while we were sitting right there and she said, "yup, that's life" and continued to move the rest of our chairs. I met them both earlier that day and they seemed like nice people so I was dumbfounded and appalled with her audacity. The husband stopped mowing our yard after I discussed the matter with him but the whole ordeal was ridiculous and they should have been more considerate; especially since we were the only other folks staying at the resort.
We are so glad you enjoyed our brand new patio and bunkhouse and the many lake activities. We checked in with the guests after their first full day and they said everything was great. The next day they contacted us irate (including cursing) about the lawn being mowed while they were there, threatening a bad review and suddenly had several other complaints. Prior to their stay, the guests asked for a discount so maybe they were trying to get money back. We strive to provide a great experience for all guests but some guests don’t have a great experience no matter where they go. We encourage future guests to read our other reviews!
The cottage is lake-front and located in a rural area 10-15 minutes outside Big Rapids and 45 minutes from Mount Pleasant. Right down the road (a 5-10 minute walk) is Cran-Hill Ranch which has several activities available for a cost as well as outdoor church services on Sundays.
