If you are looking for a relaxing vacation walking distance to both the Gulf beaches and Tampa Bay, you have found the place.
Anna Maria Island is a small barrier island located approximately one hour South of Tampa. The Island consists of 7 miles of beautiful untouched white sand beaches. In Anna Maria, you will not find high rises or big resorts. It is a quaint island that is unspoiled, tranquil, and very relaxing. The width of the island is only 4 blocks where we are located - so you can easily walk to water on either side. Our location is also convenient to the charming Bayview Plaza. One block away, you can shop, eat at several restaurants, have ice cream, coffee etc. The Anna Maria Pier is also located one block away. Where you can fish, or enjoy dinner and live music.
Our home was built in 1907 and is one of the original homes on the island. In 1947 Arthur and Leone Shumard purchased the home as their retirement home. It has been in the family ever since. In 2003 the home was in need of renovation, and was completely renovated from top to bottom by the current owners. We take pride in our island vacation home, and make cleaning and maintenance our top priority.
The cottage has 2+ bedrooms, living room, den, fully equipped kitchen, sunroom, 2 bathrooms, and laundry. Our home is completely furnished, and all rooms are tiled with Italian porcelain. The front room retains its original pine flooring.
The master bedroom has a private full bathroom and French doors that open up to a private patio and 7 person hot tub. There is also a set of French doors that open up to the sun room, creating a very open and airy feeling. You will also enjoy the high ceilings with ceiling fan. There is a king size bed with a pillow top mattress and 100% cotton sheets.
The guest room has a queen size bed with a pillow top mattress and 100% cotton sheets. There is a door to a small outside porch. A skylight also brightens the room along with high ceilings and a ceiling fan.
The sun room is full of windows and French doors that open up to the pool.
In the sun room you will find a new pull out couch for any extra guests you may have. This room can be shut off from the rest of the house as a possible third bedroom.
The living room is equipped with a 32” television, a DVD player, and stereo with CD player. There is a cathedral ceiling and fan making the room one of our favorite relaxing spots.
The kitchen is fully equipped to allow you to cook anything you like. There is a dishwasher, microwave, garbage disposal, six chairs for the dining table and an additional leaf. There is an additional four person table in the sun room if you require additional seating.
There are two bathrooms both equipped with 100% cotton bath sheets and towels. The front bathroom has a pedestal sink and a beautiful tiled shower. The second bathroom is located in the master suite and also has a pedestal sink. This bathroom has a bathtub and beautiful tiled walls.
The pool is just outside in the backyard and is surrounded by flowers, shrubs, large palm trees and a huge flowering royal ponciana tree that creates a very tropical and private outdoor setting.
This is an adorable cottage in an excellent location. The cottage is attractive, light, well designed and decorated. The pictures don't really do it justice.
We had two issues, though, that kept our visit from being what it might have been.
The first was that the hot tub was broken the day before we arrived and was not fixed until the night we were leaving. This was problematic for us, since the weather this holiday season was quite chilly and overcast, which meant the pool was of no use to us. And for people coming from the West coast, spending time in the water was a big draw. We called the rental company five minutes after arriving to ask about the hot tub, and they just said, "it's broken. since it's a holiday, we don't know when it will be fixed." Then no word at all until a man just showed up the night we were leaving. When we checked out, my husband mentioned this was a real disappointment for us, and they said, "You should have called us." ??
The other issue is really one of a style mismatch. Vacation rentals seem to run the gamut as far as what kitchen/household supplies are offered. On the generous end of the spectrum, you have welcome baskets with coffee or wine or fruit or something to get you started in the home. Middle of the road are the homes that will at least keep nonperishable things like flour/sugar/coffee/oil/spices/salt/pepper in the cupboards, if someone has left them before. This house was fully on the "bare cupboards" end of the spectrum. If you plan on cooking at all, you will need to buy absolutely everything. If you need to sneeze, make sure you bring your own kleenex. If you need the tub stopped up, bring a stopper. :)
We arrived the night before new year's day, which was unfortunate planning on our part. But it meant we spent the majority of new year's day trying to piece together who was open for coffee, who was open for shopping, etc. We thought it was also sort of ironic that the check out instructions say that you should start a load of laundry, but there is no laundry detergent provided.
Again, the cottage itself is very nice. But we will probably look for a different one (under different management?) the next time we visit Anna Maria.
My jusband and I celebrated our 25th anniversary here. The location was great, quiet street but within walking distance to the shops and beaches. The yard/pool/hot tub/landscaping were absolutely beautiful and enjoyable. We found everything clean and in working order.....loved it!
