Wonderful vacation, location, and lake house!

  • 5 of 5

This was year #2 for us and we are already looking forward to next year. We felt at home from the time we arrived til we left. We found the house clean and very comfortable, not real fancy, but just what our family with little ones

and dogs wanted, very homey.

We had a few showers the first day but the weather was great. We did a lot of boating fishing and swimming and spent morning til dark outside enjoying the great location.

Saw the mother deer and 2 babies twice crossing from the island, loons were calling everyday, just beautiful to be surrounded by all the nature!

Also want to mention all the great steam boats that went by, the grandchildren got such a kick out of them when they tooted at them. Many more this year, really something to see.

The new swing was a great addition this year, our aunt claimed it and spent many hours relaxing and reading there, perfect location too for sunsets.

We ate in every night, a lot of great food and grilling. Bart's has great fish and especially love the homemade fish and clam chowder. Fresh corn, veggies and delicious desserts from the local farm, no need to go out!

Roger and Claire have been great, Roger has gotten right back to me anytime I have contacted him, very happy with their service.

We are very happy we found such a great spot and look forward to many more family vacations.

Awesome Week at Lake

  • 5 of 5

This experience has far exceeded our expectations. This was our first year renting a house in the area, we will not be searching any further. This place had everything we could have possibly needed. The location is great, the views are beautiful- the boat, bikes, canoes and kayaks are an added bonus. The owner was very helpful in answering all of my questions during the reservation process and he and his team were very awesome in responding to any of our needs. We hope to be back next year. We didn't need the additional space over the garage this year, but I can tell you that next year we probably will because I am bringing more people to share in this experience. There were plenty of nice towels, linens, utensils, pots and pans etc. Thank You Roger -Our entire family (ages 14 - 73) all had an amazing time! We really enjoyed the evenings watching a deer swim across from the island and listening to the loons.

Needs lots of updating!

  • 2 of 5

We stayed here with another couple for a week. We were disappointed with how old everything was. The house definitely needs lots of updating. The rooms were all very dimly lit. Sometimes that's not an issue, but the bathroom was really bad. Also, there were three televisions in the house. We could only get the cable to work on one of them so all four of us had to sit in the sunroom (where the furniture is ancient) the entire week to watch anything. We were there during football season so this did not make the one in our party who doesn't like football happy at all. That was really a shame because the tv in the living room was much nicer--just would not work! We also felt there was not an adequate supply of washcloths. Maybe we just couldn't find them but we sure tried. I agree with the other review about all the old condiments in the fridge. With all the rules, maybe you should add to completely empty refrigerator when you leave. You have no way of knowing how old they are or who has eaten from them. I did not like having to use bottled water to brush my teeth--that was really strange. Maybe we were expecting too much by booking this place, but it certainly wasn't up to what we expected. I would describe it as old, dim, and dank. Being from Georgia, chances are we will not be in this area again, but I definitely would prefer to find another place to stay next time. Just disappointed.

Owner's Response: We always find it interesting that the tenants that complain the most are usually the ones that never call or report issues they find at the house WHEN THEY ARRIVE OR WHILE THEY ARE STAYING THERE. This review was submitted 4 months after they stayed there, when memories are not fresh in the mind. Here's the email text they sent me one week after they left: "The house is very nice and homely, kitchen stocked well, great deck and shed and loved the old fashioned pine paneling. That brought back memories of my childhood home & my in-laws farm house. House has a very comfortable feel to it." At the time of her stay, washcloths were intermixed with towel in two plastic storage bins. My cleaning service found 12 there after they left--certainly more than only 2 they found. We have since done away with the bins & now all towels and linens are kept in a large utility cabinet with each shelf area clearly marked with each item and size. Can't miss them now. When we checked out the LR TV, it was on the wrong Source setting. Set on DVD (which needs DVD for signal) and not HDMI 1 that goes to cable box. Had they called my Property Manager or me, we could have easily told them how to change it and they would have gotten a great picture, plus 70 more channels. The MBA, as well as the rest of the house, uses Energy Efficient light bulbs, which mean it takes a minute or two to get to their full brightness. We are slowly changing all of these over to LED ones and probably will also be putting a light bar in this bathroom. There are no overhead lights in any of the BRms, so the end table energy light provides their light. Condiments in the refrigerator are left to save money from every person every week buying their own ketchup, mustard, dressings, mixes, etc. They are all removed in May, Aug, and Oct, other times periods of rental activity. Each year we poll are upcoming guests to see if they want us to continue this policy, and it continues. Those that don't like it, as always, can buy all their own, as well as throw out ones they don't like or seem "too old." We only ask people to replace the common items they use up, like foil, baggies, cling wrap, wax paper, etc. After I responded to their email with what we found, their response was: "Couldn't figure out remote (TV),----chalk it up to being too old; we needed a teenager there to figure it out. If we're ever in the area again, we'll definitely contact you." I say, If there's a problem, Call.

Great Weekend Getaway

  • 4 of 5

Our family just had a great weekend at this lake house. The setting is quiet and peaceful but with lots of options for fun! The kayaks, canoes and the rowboat were all great fun and the big deck was well used for meals and relaxing. This place has all the comforts of home so it was easy to prepare meals for a crowd but there are also lots of options for eating out nearby. The house was clean and comfortable. Listening to the loons on the lake was a special treat. We would certainly consider another visit here.

Ups and Downs

  • 2 of 5

Location, location, location. The house was perfectly located on a private part of the lake which made you feel like you were the only ones there. There was plenty of room to accommodate for guests and the large deck was great.

Aside from the location, there was much to be desired with the home. First of all, we arrived to an empty propane tank and a fridge full of old condiments. When the owner provides a list of rules ranging from “a” to “ll” (Yes, that is 39 in total!), my expectation is that he/she will abide by the same rules they set forth and take care of the small things. The layout was not desirable either as it almost appears two seperate buildings were combined with a hallway and the kitchen was not desireable to cook for large groups.

Having stayed at other homes in the area, I highly doubt that I will be staying on Gansy Lane ever again in the future.

Owner's Response: Check-in date is wrong. Most likely was 8/29. Home & amenities is set up for families with kids & pets, not singles or couples looking to just eat and drink. This house accommodates 10 people. If another family of 4 comes along with you, then they use the additional space upstairs above the garage. It also serves as a game room with foosball, poker table, TV, refrig, microwave, internet, full bathroom, BR, etc. It connects via the stairs and door to the laundry room/foyer area. Tenants are responsible for refilling an empty propane tank on the grill. A spare tank is available for use when someone forgets to do it. Responsibility now falls on the new arriving tenant or my Property Manager to do it during non-occupancy. Tenants do not have to remove condiments before they leave. Obviously the many varieties acquired from summer rentals can add up. Old ones there was not, as my wife, Claire, organized & downsized them 2 days prior to this tenant's arrival. Kitchen is large with bar seating for two, 2x ovens, DW, MW, DW, UC Icemaker, Refrig, every possible cookware & utensils you can imagine, dinnerware for 16 people, & a special, pure distiller water faucet for drinking. Get more than 5x cooks in there at once & it could get crowded. We had cooked & fed all at once 8x adults & 6x kids every night for 10 days. Only problem it created was a lot of p&p's to hand wash. The "rules" are guidelines during your stay---lake or well water, heating, power failures, sick pets, parking, bear, fishing, & power boat regulations, recycling, laundry usage, etc. Most renters live outside of NH & often never have been to or on Winnipesaukee. We try & keep them well informed about the area & family activities. I find it ironic that this reviewer never mentioned the other amenities---2x canoes, 2x kayaks, rowboat, 4x bikes, fishing & water sport equipment, fire bowl, Loons, Smart TVs, Wifi, board games, DVD movies, NWZ swimming area, etc. that others tenants often mention about their stay. Guess they didn't use any of that stuff, except the bike that got the flat tire they were charged for. Look at the pictures, read the other reviews, & see for yourself what this place has to offer to families, old or young, who want "to relax and get away from it all." To be able to bring your beloved pet(s) too, makes it even better. Their loss will be another's golden opportunity. Each year we welcome back repeat, happy, appreciative tenants. Thank you.

A Wonderful place for our family vacation!

  • 5 of 5

First of all I want to say that our family had the Most Wonderful vacation! My husband and I arrived first and were pleasantly surprised that the house and location was exactly as Roger described, not always the way when renting. Our daughters, spouses, 2 grandbabies, and 2 dogs arrived after we were settled. They were all as pleased as we were. The location across from Gansy Island was so private we felt like we were the only ones on the lake! There was not a boat we did not use, our kids all especially loved taking the rowboat out to fish, although only a few fish were caught. My husband and I enjoyed the canoe, especially first thing in the morning when the lake was still. Our daughter's chocolate lab, Rudy, could not get enough of the water. He would have been in all day if we let him. We ate our meals in every night, everything was there that could possibly be needed. We bought great chowder from the little stand down the road, Barts. Would definitely recommend and go there again.. Only made a few runs to the store, also a great farm down the road where we bought veggies corn on the cob, and delicious pie.

The layout of the house was perfect, plenty of room to be together and plenty of space at the same time. The deck was so relaxing in the morning with coffee. I especially loved rocking with my grandbabies in the hammock, a few good naps were had in it!

I can't say enough good, we loved every minute of our stay. Everything we could possibly need from cook ware to outdoor activities was right there, We are already planning to go back next year, hopefully making it our family's new yearly vacation spot!

Thank you Roger and Claire for sharing your wonderful lake house!
