Overview

South Lake Tahoe House Rental Photos and Description

5 Bedrooms, 4 Bathrooms, Sleeps 14

This spectacular, prize-winning executive home is on Lake Tahoe's South Shore. To reach the front door, one must enter into a great stone cavern formed by massive granite boulders under a sod roof. The end of the fifty by thirty-five foot living room is formed by a single stone. In the center of this great room lies another boulder and a mossy trout pond. This brings indoors the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, patios, and lawns. Two gigantic fireplaces rise and pass through the room's twenty-three foot ceiling. Overlooking all of this are two sweeping, curved balconies which provide additional views of the mountain peaks and green forests that have made the Tahoe Basin world famous.

'Stonehenge' is a beautiful vacation home built on a rocky ridge overlooking the woods and meadows of Tahoe Valley and the crest of the snow-capped Sierra Nevada. It is located at the edge of the El Dorado National Forest and no house or rooftop, nor street or wire, mar its magnificent view.

The end of the 50 by 35 foot living room is formed by a single stone. In the center of this great room lies another boulder and a mossy trout pond, bringing the natural beauty of the surrounding landscape, patio and lawns inside. Opposite the living room's glass solarium is the dining room, breakfast corner and tiled kitchen. Two gigantic fireplaces rise and pass through the room's 23 foot ceiling. Overlooking all of this are two sweeping, curved balconies which provide additional views of the mountain peaks and green forests that have made the Tahoe Basin world famous. Each bedroom is decorated with a unique and distinctive decor, the Greek Myth room, the Timberline room, Tyrolean, Mediterranean and Wildlife room. The unusual Austrian-styled 'Strube' has its own stucco fireplace and provides a separate hideaway for games or intimate conversation. A library contains books and memorabilia gathered in travels to distant parts of the world.

Mountain climbers who sometimes scale the boulders near 'Stonehenge' acclaim its distinctive setting, intimate and blending with the environment, isolated, yet only five minutes from the center of town, elegantly styled but with a homespun sort of warmth.

absolutely beautiful

This is by far the best property I have ever stayed at. It is just as pictured and Rosemarie is such a wonderful host. She even called us the morning of our last day just to see how our stay was and to wish us a safe trip home. I would definitely stay at this location again.

The house is amazing

  • 5 of 5

This house is amazing, we had a great time! We were a group of 12 people staying in the house, but we also had more family for dinner/ lunch a couple of times. We all loved the house (except for my nephew who was scared of some masks and decorations). I do recommend this house for families, its ok for kids but not for crawlers because it has a lot of stairs and many levels.. In our case in which children are 3 and older it was perfect. It was clean and very well equipped (kitchen utensils, towels, etc..). Besides the house itself, the location of the house and the view from the backyard is outstanding...We loved everything..

Unforgettable

  • 5 of 5

Rosmarie, thank you for your hospitality and creating this beautiful house. We really enjoyed staying here and it made our family weekend that much more enjoyable.

For people looking for more info; 'Stonehenge' is the most memorable vacation house I've ever rented. The house was built on top of natural boulders with a small stream running beneath them. The 5 bedrooms all surround a huge open great room, with two large boulders inside and an enormous fireplace. Small reading nooks, couches, and game rooms surround the boulder in the great room and are perfect getaways to read, play games or just sit and talk. The kitchen was well stocked, not super updated, but worked perfectly. We used both dining tables to fit our group of 12, but it worked well and we could all still talk to each other and mingle.

This house is perfect for a group that is looking for something different than your normal Tahoe cabin. I'd especially recommend for when the weather is nice as the house has a spacious yard with BBQ, Hot Tub, outdoor seating and many more boulders to play on.

Note - I would not recommend this home for families with infants who need to crawl or elderly who have trouble walking. There are lots of stairs, uneven surfaces and places to trip or fall.

Stonehenge Wonderland!

  • 5 of 5

Before arrival I was already expecting a great cabin/home and a great view. Pictures cannot explain how awesome this vacation home is with the breathtaking view that comes with it. I have never been to a home as beautiful as this one is. This rental is a 10/10 and would encourage anyone to come as pictures can't explain this place. All of the rooms and the whole home had a homey feel to it which made this vacation so much more worth it, because we were at home! This home is close to the city and many, trails/hikes and outdoor activities that you could want. I would defiantly come again and encourage anyone to do the same. Thank you Rosemarie and Stonehenge!

Memories made here!

  • 5 of 5

Our family Tahoe weekend trip started out to be all about the snow, sadly this year, snow was no where to be found minus the few resorts that were all but closed. Stonehenge turned disappointment into DELIGHT! The children were amazed by the rock formations inside as well as out, and spent hours climbing, laughing, and playing, finally ending the day with a quick dip in the hot tub and star gazing. The young adults found games to play and bikes to ride, and all of us fell under the spell of Stonehenge. There was hardly enough time to explore every nook and cranny of this truly one of a kind property. The master king bed was so comfortable, I slept like a dream. Rosmarie was great and even worked with my request for a late checkout on Sunday so that we could do a late breakfast and not feel rushed to get out the door. With our family, that extra hour or so made for an easy trip home and a relaxing end to a lovely weekend.

We will definitely be back! Maybe even get to experience the property when it is a winter wonderland covered in snow!

Thank you Twinnings, for sharing your special place with our big family.

Regards
