The lavishly reconstituted Ottoman pashas residence is set on a bluff above the Old Harbour of Antalya. Eight dissimilar units surround an enclosed courtyard off a quiet old street. They supply a feast of ancient and half-forgotten Turkish arts and crafts. There are miniature-painted ceilings and handmade Kütahya ceramics, natural-dye fabrics especially weaved under the supervision of Arts Institute professors and natural olive oil soaps made in hill villages. The woodwork is entirely of cedar, whose sweet scent alternates with the sweeter wafts of bakery from the pastry shop below. The staff is efficiently professional, and the restaurant specialises in old-fashioned Turkish upper-crust cuisine.
Our only gripe is the nightly noise from the popular music venues nearby.
