Maison Tillac (3 star) is a well renovated 19th century farmworkers cottage and barn in the medieval village of Tillac in Gascony in South West France. It has its own swimming pool. Situated one minute's walk from the local epicerie, two from the best butcher in the area, three from the village bar and restaurant and four minutes drive from an 18-hole golf course, Maison Tillac is ideal for a relaxing holiday in the beautiful Gascon countryside. Tillac is wonderfully placed for many attractions. Sightseeing, walking, cycling, golf, tennis, horse riding, fishing are all available in the area. Marciac, with its International Jazz Festival, Mirande for Country Music and Vic Fezensac for Salsa are all very close by. Tillac has its Floralie, Brocante, Fete and classical music concerts. Add the rolling countryside of Gascony and its fields of smiling sunflowers, tiny villages, produce markets, quiet roads and lots of sunshine and you have the magic ingredients for the best of holiday.

Events: There are three major music events in the area. In July there are two music festivals, in Mirande celebrating Country Music and in Vic Fezensac for Latin-American music fans. In August comes the internationally famous Marciac Jazz Festival, two unmissable weeks for the jazz aficionado.

Tillac has its flower market in early April, its antiques fair (Brocante/Vide Grenier) in May , classical music concerts/workshops in August and the village fete in July as well as dinner dances throughout the year. Neighbouring villages have their own fetes and other special events from Spring through to Autumn.

Sightseeing: Tillac's unique medieval street; Barran with its twisted church spire; L'Isle-de-Noé in the arms of a river surrounding its 18th century chateau (currently being renovated); Bassoues' 43m high donjon (tower) museum describing the histories of nearby villages; Montreal's gallo-roman villa; Fources one of the prettiest of small villages; Éauze the heart of Armagnac country with an archaeological museum; Riscle's Gascon museum; Auch, the capital of The Gers, with a beautiful cathedral (the choir stalls and stained glass are superb) and its statue of D'artagnan; Condom's gothic cloisters and Armagnac museum and cellars; Mirande's unique church and Beaux Arts museum; Lectoure's thermal centers for 'taking the cure'; Fleurence's fine market square and church with superb stained glass. Also Lavardens, Saint-Puy, Valence-sur-Baise, L'Abbey de Flaran, Cassaigne, Larressingle, La Romieu, Saint-Clar and many more.

Food and Drink: In Gascony country food and cooking still reign supreme. There are many restaurants nearby, including Tillac, serving wholesome food and plenty of it. Four courses, including wine, for 10-12€ is the norm! Gascon meals revolve around, but are not limited to, four things – duck, garlic, wine and armagnac. There are also gourmet restaurants for you to try, vineyards to visit and wines and spirits to sample and buy. Don't miss the fiery spirit of Armagnac, Pousse Rapier and Floc de Gascogne. Everywhere you will see ducks and geese, for this is foie gras country. Foie gras is the pride of Gascony and a delight for the senses. This is best sampled with a glass of sweet Pacherenc or Jurançon wine. There are produce markets at Mirande, Marciac and Mielan. The best butcher in the area is in Tillac and the local shop provides wonderful croissants and bread plus all your basic provisions and fuel for your barbecue. Tillac also has its own restaurant, general store and post office.

Because of the presence of exposed beams we respectfully request guests not to smoke in the building. We have a dog of our own and as we live adjacent to Maison Tillac, it is not possible for us to accept guests with their own pets. To meet French Government requirements we have fitted a pool alarm. However, it is ultimately the responsibility of the guests to supervise the safe use of the pool.

Gascony in the Sun

  • 5 of 5

Maison Tillac is a fabulous holiday base for the beautiful Gascony countryside. The cottage is spotlessly clean and set in a lovely garden and grounds with a fab swimming pool. Madeleine and Tony were excellent hosts and provided all the help and advice required and know the area very well. Tillac has all you need to survive, a bread shop, a butcher and a restaurant and there are lots of other wonderful small villages close by with markets and more restaurants. I'd recommend this accommodation and holiday to everyone who wants to sample rural France.

Lovely property, great pool!

  • 5 of 5

Spacious, clean, comfortable house. The bedrooms each have ensuite bathrooms and the pool in the back is large. Kitchen and living areas are large and well stocked.

We stayed here for a week when the temperature was 40C+. The pool was a godsend! Despite the high daily temperatures, the house remained cool and comfortable.

The owners, Tony and Madeleine were very helpful and pleasant, and the town of Tillac makes a great base to explore the Ger region.

The Cottage

  • 5 of 5

I spent 3 weeks at the Cottage during the summer with my 3 young children and we all had a marvellous time. The facilties are very good, the area lovely, the village is a short stroll away and our welcome could not have been friendlier.

I had inspected the gite a few months before along with several other properties, and the standard of accommodation at the Cottage is excellent. We were very comfortable and the surroundings are beautiful.

The grounds are lovely, the village is full of character and, although tiny provides a restaurant/bar, general store and butcher, even a lttle market on Sundays - everything you need within walking distance.

Our hosts were extremely kind and helpful and we felt very welcomed and at home during our stay. I highly recommend this property and would not hesitate to stay there again.

Comme des princes à Tillac

  • 5 of 5

Golf: Golf at Tillac – Chateau de Pallanne

A few minutes drive from us is the charming Chateau de Pallanne, location of the newest 18-hole golf course in The Gers. Upgraded from 9 holes in the last 18 months by the new owners, the 70 hectares course is par 72, covering 6341 meters. It features the already famous par 5 of 556 meters! The course takes maximum advantage of the natural amphitheater in which it is set and features trees, flowers and natural water cascades. Open to all, the green fees at Chateau de Pallanne are very reasonable with special prices for young people and students and reductions for seniors. The club house features its own restaurant.
