About Marcia Harrell

Our family lived on the Cape for 3 years when daughter Amelia was 2. We love the water and especially St. Joseph Bay. It is one of very few bays of this size in the country that doesn't have a river run into it (brackish water). We love kayaking, paddle boarding, boating, skiing, and the clear skies at night. Our dog especially loves kayaking and whines endlessly should go without her. I eventually resettled in South Florida and my Amelia is now a attends a fine arts college in NYC. But the Cape will always be a special to us - there is no other place like it. If you've been there, you know. If you haven't, you're in for a treat. I have put lots of TLC in Amelia by the Bay and hope you'll give it a try.

Marcia Harrell purchased this house in 2000

Why Marcia Harrell chose Florida Panhandle

Privacy, natural surroundings, and easy access to the bay and beach.

What makes this house unique

Very Private, fishing off of the dock, kayaking and scolloping in the bay. Very well-kept by myself and my wonderful innkeeper, Cathy.

Great bay house for taking your boat!

  • 4 of 5

This house is in a great location on the cape. Nearby to popular cape stores and beach access. The house is fully equipped and very comfortable beds. It's a great house for multiple people, we never felt crowded. The sunrise is amazing whether on the dock or watching from the deck. We took our boat and went out everyday, easy to pull up and tie off at the dock. The snorkeling and fishing in the bay is excellent! Definitely go to Webers Little Donut Shop which is walkable it's great. The beach is beautiful from the state park.

Absolutely breathtaking!!

  • 5 of 5

Amelia was wonderful!! The house was very spacious and the owner provided beach towels, detergents, books, board games and movies at the main house!! My family had many memorable nights utilizing the medley of board games!!

The house has a great open plan layout with plenty of seating. All beds were absolutely comfortable!! The house was also well cleaned when we arrived and decorated beautifully with beach decor ranging from sand dollars to seahorses!!

The screen house by the bay was priceless!! The kids loved using the shell nets that were hanging in the screen house to collect sea creatures within the bay to look at close up. There was also a place to build a fire by the screen house that the kids used to make s'mores. The kayaks and paddle boards were nicely lined up under the screen house for all of the family to easily take out to the bay! The kayaking on the bay was great!! The pier was grand and amazing!! The colorful lizards must have loved the pier also, because the children spotted them sunbathing regularly on the wooden planks of the pier.

This property is absolutely a dream!! I can't say enough!! It is like a hidden paradise that could be featured within the pages of National Geographic magazine!!! And on top of everything that I have previously mentioned, the owner is a delight to work with. She is always available and I can tell that she wants her guests to have the best vacation possible!!! She truly cares about her renters!! This is a magnificent five star property!!

Perfect Getaway Beach House Vacation

  • 5 of 5

I brought my family to Amelia for a 1 week vacation. We have been to the gulf coast of Florida for beach house vacations the past 5 years. This place was by far our best beach house vacation experience thus far.

The house is in a great location. The location is secluded, right on the bay, and is only a 5 minute walk to the beach across the street. The house is pretty, it's very clean, and spacious. There was plenty of room for the seven of us.

This place is awesome because its provides a little bit of everything. The gazebo, located right near the water, is a nice place to sit back and relax, enjoy the hammock, enjoy the view of the bay, read a book, and etc. The dock is awesome. There is a bench at the end of the dock for you to sit down , enjoy the sunrise/sunset, or fish. The bay is amazing and fun place to be out on the water. The water is clear, shallow, and generally very calm. My family and I really enjoyed kayaking, paddle boarding, and swimming throughout the bay. It was a definitely a plus that kayaks and paddle boards were included with this place.

For the fisherman, the fishing is great at the bay. I caught lots of sea trout, pompanos, and lady fish from the kayak. There are hundreds of mud minnows and pinfish that live right under the dock so finding live bait was never a problem.

The owner, Marcia, is very pleasant, friendly, and was always available if we needed to contact her.

Wonderful Vacation Spot!

  • 5 of 5

My family of 4 from TX met up with my parents from NH here at Amelia. We had a wonderful visit and enjoyed all the comforts of home. The home's location works for everyone. The pier was a little scary for me and off limits for my 1 yr old for sure, but my 3 yr old did well walking down and enjoyed seeing all the wildlife. The screened porch and hammock made for relaxing breaks, as did the home's large deck. There is no beach access on the property for the kids to play, but there was a wonderful sandy area with water and toys to make sandcastles in. The state park at the end of the peninsula was wonderful and provided a park for the kids and the sandy beach to play at. There are several shops and restaurants that don't take long to bike/drive to. We recommend finding some Tupelo honey! My husband and father went on a fishing charter one day and caught more fish than we could eat, another reason we were so glad to have a stove and grill. It took me awhile to sit down and finally write a review, but now that it's winter we are thinking of returning soon.

I dont' want anyone to know about this place so I can have it all to myself

  • 5 of 5

My husband, dogs, and I had the best vacation. The location is perfect you can explore the bay or hop on over the beach (30 second car drive). Water is clear and the marine life abounds. My husband went crabbing, we snorkeled, and the screened pavilion on the bay was a great place to just relax. House was clean and had everything you could need. The kayaks were great to use too. We will be going back.
