cabin in the woods

  • 5 of 5

Description of the cabin was accurate, but the photos don't do it justice. It is much cozier than it looks. Very clean and warm. We had the greatest meals on the deck in the trees. Nice wrap around deck and partly covered. We hiked the trails with the happy, happy dog. Owner was great and always helpful. I would recommend this place to anyone seeking some peace and quiet, but plenty to do in the area. Must recommend the Screamin' zip line tour. The guys running it are just great and views are neat. Last line is 2,000 feet long with speeds at around 60 miles per hour. Had dinner at the Canyons. Nothing fancy, but good food, NC Speckled Trout and great views of Linville Gorge.

Crystal River, Florida

Surrounded by lots of trees. Peaceful. Need 4 wheel drive vehicle to get up driveway. Far from town.

Nice size. Comfortable interior layout. Very clean. Stocked with everything we needed. Wi-Fi worked well. Plenty of hot water to fill up and enjoy the large jacuzzi tub in the bathroom. House is closer to Blowing Rock than it is to Boone- which suited us just fine, as we enjoyed all the cute shops, restaurants and hiking trails there. Be forewarned: your car is going to get dirty- the house is on a long dirt road. Perfect for a couple.

Cabin in nice but disappointing

  • 2 of 5

The towns of Blowing Rock and Boone were great; love the area. The cabin itself and the location were nice but there were a few things that made it disappointing and would not recommend. First, there were layers of dust on the walls esp. over the window in the bedroom and cobwebs. You could not open the windows because there was so much dirt, bugs and debris... it blew in when windows were open. I had to clean two myself so we could open them to get fresh air. The screens on the doors had openings in them that let bugs in and were difficult to open. The stove and coffee pot were disgusting; could not make morning coffee, had to go out. The cookware was just as bad; I would not cook anything. The pots and pans were Teflon; outdated and not healthy. Dishes were stained. The knick knack shelf covering the electrical box needs to go; it has nothing but dust. The cabin needs a top to bottom cleaning; it doesn't have a clean or healthy atmosphere. The bathroom had a shower that you had to climb over to get in a Jacuzzi, so if someone was older or had physical difficulties it would be hard to take a shower. The driveway entrance to the cabin is very steep; it would be difficult for a car. We had a SUV and it had a hard time getting up there. The TV did not get regular channels. It had Netflix, Hulu etc. but you need an account which we did not. We like listening to the news which we couldn't get. This would be a really nice cabin if it was updated and cleaned thoroughly on a regular basis.

Owner's Response: I am here at the cabin now...I was expecting a disaster area from the sound of this review. This cabin is clean. The coffee pot is clean. Filter portion a bit stained. I'll soak it in vinegar. Oven, clean. Pots and pans are fine. I bought them last year. They have very light scratches but in good shape. Window sills, clean. Ceiling fans, clean. The entire interior is wood and so tough to keep dust free. But it really looks good to me...The "Jacuzzi"brand different than climbing in a regular tub and there is a handle. Screen door is a little bent (someone probably walked into it while closed!).My husband is addressing the bedroom door. It's difficult to open. Driveway a little steep but short. I have never had a problem driving up....and I have it graded every year... I am thoroughly enjoying my time here. This place is so so so cozy.

Needs work for seniors and in general.

  • 2 of 5

Cabin was clean inside and quite serviceable. Several things need work for seniors to enjoy. Porch outside was 1/2 cleaned.

-need sturdy railings on walk-up and all steps.

-need a wall handlebar at the back of the shower/tub.Very dangerous and hard to access in and out.

-Kitchen chandelier is pretty, but lighting for the table is very poor.

-Walkway shrubs need pruning for easy access.

-TV use is zero. Need a good instruction sheet for it's use.

-Access to porch is lousy. Kitchen access door is OK, but screen is shot and can't be opened. Bedroom access door won't open, but screen is good. A minimum solution would be to exchange the sliding screen doors so porch could be accessed by the kitchen area.

-probably wouldn't take too much to make this place better.

Owner's Response: We are here at this cabin now.... It is in great shape. Needs it's yearly maintenance (my working vacation) but otherwise, clean and comfortable. Super cozy. There may be leaves/debris on the porch when you arrive. Especially in the fall...If there are days in between cleanings/check in....well, that's the way it goes. Housekeeping doesn't come out to sweep the deck on a daily basis....This is not a hotel. If you have questions about ANYTHING, you only need to call me. I will help you. My husband is thoroughly enjoying the ROKU and includes local and fox news channels and so much more....
