This very private cottage is conveniently located 10 miles north of Ithaca, two miles from Trumansburg, and two miles past Taughannock State Park, in the heart of Finger Lakes wine country. Parking is on same level as the cottage, perched between Cayuga Lake and green woodland. The second floor features two generous bedrooms and a bathroom with a Jacuzzi bathtub. The downstairs sitting room has beautiful, sweeping lake views and opens via a sliding glass door to a 25-foot-long wood deck overlooking the lake. With Adirondack chairs along with a patio table and chairs, the deck is a perfect spot to kick back, relax and enjoy the outstanding view.

Twin Pines Cottage sleeps up to 6 persons - two in each second floor bedroom, and two in the first floor sitting room. All floors are natural wood. The cottage, outfitted with electric heat, is insulated and features an air conditioner in the living room along with ceiling fans in each bedroom. Behind the cottage, the parking area can accommodate four+ cars with a large lawn and extensive woods beyond. Outside the kitchen stands a charcoal grill. Down the staircase, 90 feet of lakefront offers a dock and lakeside cabana with a table and chairs, mini-refrigerator and fishing gear. Lakeside there are lawn chairs for relaxing, a picnic table and a fire ring for memorable beach campfires.

The interior offers a number of Adirondack-lodge style features including a fieldstone fireplace, barnwood accents, hand-crafted wood entry doors and wood trim with the tree bark intact. Comfortable contemporary furnishings and antique accents combine to create a pleasing, classic interior ambiance. Twin Pines is furnished with two sofas, a recliner, a convertible sofa bed and Oriental rugs. The eat-in kitchen with oak cabinets is fully equipped. The main second floor bedroom has 18 feet of sliding glass windows overlooking Cayuga Lake.

About Dennis Stein

Originally from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, I've called Ithaca and the bountiful Finger Lakes region home for the last 25 years. Living in downtown Ithaca, I greatly enjoy the contrast between the vibrant urban downtown and the peaceful, wide-open vistas around the lakes. My co-owner Ed, also a transplant who takes inspiration from the natural beauty of the Finger Lakes region, has lived in downtown Ithaca with his family even longer.

Dennis Stein purchased this cottage in 2006

Why Dennis Stein chose Cayuga Lake

Twin Pines is a cozy cottage that guests regularly describe as very welcoming.

When the cottage went on the market in 2006, the seller shared that because of the sheer beauty of the view, several potential out-of-area buyers expressed plans to tear down the cottage and replace it with a much larger contemporary house.

We decided to buy the building so that its simple beauty and great view of the lake could be preserved and enjoyed by vacationers and guests.

What makes this cottage unique

Twin Pines is replete with original artistic details. Some of the furnishings are handmade, and the front door was crafted by Mary Shelley, a local woodworking artist in Ithaca. We feature the work of other local artists

Like visiting mom

  • 5 of 5

So as my daughter and I walked in with a friend from college I heard behind me mom this is perfect...and it was. The views are great, the place well stocked, there's a cozy family feel to this cottage home. We invited 10 college friends to cook a meal together and everyone was so happy to get away from dorm life to a home cooked meal, board games, and time to sit on a couch with a friend. I am so happy I booked a home for my visit instead of a hotel. Thanks guys it was perfect!

Great Peaceful Getaway

  • 5 of 5

We stayed there this summer and it is such a relaxing place. You have full kitchen amenities plus a weber grill if you like to cook, which we do. The vista view from the deck--which can seat ten--overlooks the lake and is great for bird watching. The owners are accommodating and kind, providing extra towels or directions to a site nearby. Hiking nearby, and wineries too. And you have your own dock and lake front to hang out on, swim and relax. Plenty of privacy too, if you want to stay in and read or relax.

Perfect quiet getaway.

  • 5 of 5

My boyfriend and our yellow lab were looking for a place to relax, have some peace and quiet with some outdoor space for our dog to explore. This cottage was exactly that. This is a beautiful cottage in a beautiful location right on the lake tucked away in the woods that isn't too far from some great hiking which was lovely in the fall. Ithaca is also only a 15min drive which is very convenient. There is so much this place has to offer and I only wish we had more time to take advantage of it all. The owners were so friendly and respond very promptly to any questions. We enjoyed ourselves and the dog was able to swim to his hearts content. We would definitely stay again! I would reccomend this to couples and families who are looking for some outdoor recreation.

My husband and I enjoyed a peaceful, relaxing long weekend at Twin Pines cottage! The cottage is the perfect blend of rustic & comfort. It is very private & quiet and the view of the lake is amazing! The location is centrally located to wineries, breweries, parks, downtown Ithaca, restaurants. Dennis & Ed are so nice & easy to work with! We would highly recommend this property for a great getaway!

Wonderful restful unique fingerlakes cottage

  • 5 of 5

With inspiring views that may induce a gentle, enjoyable, vertigo this cottage offers a unique finger lakes experience, The cottage is a tastefully restored old fashioned finger lakes cottage. The location is ideal for exploring the central finger lakes region and the owners Ed and Dennis are available if any need should arise. The beachfront has a distinctive feel and I enjoyed my daily kayak paddles from this launch point. My wife, son, and I had a great experience and I definitely recommend Twin pines as a vacation lodging.

Notes:
Twin Pines offers a number of unique features. Topping the list is that the cottage is directly on Cayuga Lake, which means you can jump into the water off the dock and swim--or, sit on the Twin Pines' deck and relax while enjoying the beautiful view. While very private, the cottage is just 2 miles away from a large supermarket, a great coffee shop and fine restaurants in Trumansburg, NY, 2 miles from the start of the Cayuga Lake Wine Trail and near such attractions as the Cayuga Creamery ice cream shop and the Amish Country market. Twin Pine's guests are only 20 minutes away from Wegmans in Ithaca, the region's premiere supermarket, and fine downtown Ithaca restaurants. Nearby must-sees in the area include the Ithaca Farmer's Market, the various specialty shops on the Ithaca Commons, Cornell University, Museum of the Earth, the Sciencenter and the many spectacular waterfalls, gorges and trails that abound in the Ithaca area.
