This house was perfect for our group of 8 for a relaxing and fun weekend. We enjoyed the plenty of space for games with our whole group and enjoyed sitting outside enjoying the views and taking advantage of the fire pit.
The house easily and comfortably slept everyone in our group. Ms Nelson was very helpful and friendly in our planning process. Her assistant Joyce met us when we arrived and made sure we had everything we needed to enjoy our time.
Highly recommended and I think many in our group look forward to finding time to come visit again.
This was a great place to go for a nice quiet time... The pool was great. (salt water) the property was great, and most of all the host was wonderful! Zann is so full of knowledge, and her property is full of history! The house is in great shape, and although I was hoping to see a ghost, I didn't... The house has everything we needed, right down to paper plate mats... I would recommend this to anyone!
Our host Zann Nelson was the most wonderful person. She gave us alot of history of the property and was wonderful to conversate with. the house and property were amazing and we got to do alot at different places because of the central location the only bad part was leaving we cannot wait to go back next year
We have a family of five and really enjoyed our stay at the farm. The location and surroundings are simple, quiet, and beautiful. The kids loved the pool and running up and down the hills. We explored the many historic sites that were within an hours drive and even went to DC one day. It takes about an hour and a half (longer during rush hour). The house was clean and comfortable and we really enjoyed our stay. My daughter asked if we could come back next year!
We booked the property to spend Thanksgiving with our family who live in the nearby areas. We loved being all together in the house spending time with each other. The property is beautiful and we took family pictures using the old barns and surrounding areas as backdrops. I wish I had know that there had been pets in the property as my son has allergies. I think it is also helpful to know that the internet connection is not strong enough to steam or download anything, Zann did tells us that when she was showing us around the house. Zann was very helpful during our stay. The directions were great and we drove right to the property. It is a great rural setting if you are looking for a rustic get away.
We spent nearly three weeks at this property with 2 of our sons and my mom. Everyday was filled with adventure and fun, whether we traveled to see the sights or stayed on the farm and enjoyed the peace and beauty it offers. We had been there once before and knew then that six days was not long enough to enjoy all the farm and the area have to offer.
We spent July 4th at Monticello in Charlottesville, at the naturalization ceremony...which I highly recommend. We had a very long but fun-filled day in DC and made a few short road trips around to see various Civil War battlefields, which are of particular interest to our family as we have several ancestors who fought. We all enjoyed the pool and watching the cows. There was even the addition of a new calf while we were there. The view after reaching the top of the mountain is breathtaking and well worth the walk!
Zann is a gracious host, incredibly knowledgeable about local battles and the area in general, and a whiz with genealogy! She even spent time teaching my son how to clean and gut a fish which endeared her to him for life :)
We will most definitely return AGAIN...there's so much more to see and do!
At the farm, enjoy long walks, fishing, sledding, cookouts, night sky watching, wildlife viewing, croquet, reading and relaxing.
Nearby there are a multitude of possibilities including Historic sites (Montpelier, Ellwood Manor, Monticello, Civil War Battlefields); Natural sites (Skyline Drive, Old Rag - hiking), Big Meadows; Snow skiing/boarding (Wintergreen and Massanutten); Fine dining (several 4 Star restaurants in nearby Culpeper, Orange, Madison and Rappahannock); Winery tours (limitless), Shopping and golf.
Or maybe the plan is to come for Thanksgiving or Christmas and enjoy the simple life!
