|Minimum Stay||4 nights|
The Two Oyster Lagoon Beach Houses are situated on the beach in a quiet residential area, with mountain views of the mainland and sunrises from the front porches and sunsets and Oyster Lagoon from the back porches. There is dock access in Oyster Lagoon and it is just behind the houses. The beach gently slopes into Utila Bay, with coral reef the full length of the beach and an 80 foot drop off less than 100 yards from the house, providing a beautiful area to swim, snorkel, and shore dive. Each of these fully equipped houses are perfect for a family, two couples, or singles.
The house features an open living room, dinning area, and kitchen with open beam ceiling and great views. Both bedrooms are air-conditioned and open onto the back porch. The bedrooms contain king size beds or optionally two single beds with private bath rooms. Below the houses are concrete patios with BBQ grills, hammocks and a shared laundry room under one house (washer and dryer).
The Beach Houses are located on a peninsula in Blue Bayou. It is just a five minute bike ride or 15 minute walk from the west end of Utila town and the public beach area. You will be just far enough out of town to provide privacy and solitude, but just a mile away is our charming town with restaurants, bars, dive shops, stores, internet/phone services, grocery stores, and the friendliest local population you will find in the entire Caribbean!
The houses are cleaned weekly with linen changes. Angel cares for the property and is there 3 days per week. The other 3 days he is right next door. He is extremely friendly and will help you in any way he can. He will ensure you have butane for cooking, your drinking water delivered, and let you know where you can get anything else you want or are in need of.
We also have kayaks for 5. One double, and three singles.
Please contact Sue with any questions. I am the owner, live on the island year round, and am happy to assist you. Once you are on the island, Angel will meet you and help you get to the house. You can also contact us with the provided cell phone if you need something and we are not around.

My husband, 12 yr old son and I were very well looked after by Sue and Angel. Sue helped us arrange transportation from Roatan by air and Angel picked us up at the airport and get some groceries for the first couple of days. We were in Utila to get our dive certification and the house was conveniently located two minutes walk from the dive center. We checked out some of the restaurants in town as well as cooked at home. We were there the week leading up to Easter weekend so the road in front of the property was probably a lot busier than it usually is. The house is well kept, quite beautiful with all the natural wood and the open air design is so wonderful. I would recommend this property and if in Utila again, would definitely be talking to Sue. Would recommend a vegetable peeler for the utensil drawer :D!!
We loved everything about Utila but if you are looking for beaches, Utila is not your destination - there are beaches but not easily accessible. Sue and Angel (the property caretaker) were wonderful. We were travelling with our two, adult daughters and found the location perfect. We were just on the edge of town which allowed us to relax, without the noise, but we were close enough to bike back and forth. We rented bikes from Angel and would highly recommend it for day trips - take the tuk tuks at night! Sue's properties are clean and well equipped but be forewarned that, although the bedrooms have ensuite bathrooms, the bathrooms have shower curtains for doors - if you have issues with privacy then you might want to think twice:) If you are diving/snorkeling you will appreciate Sue's location even more - 2 minute walk to Coral View Dive Centre - amazing!
I can't say enough good about our stay at this property or the owner Sue and housekeeper Angel. Angel picked us up at the ferry, stopped for some drinks and smokes at a store, and onto the house. He will provide you with transportation for your stay, we chose bikes which he delivered in minutes. The house is in great condition, with everything working perfect, great view of the ocean and mainland front the front porch. 20 Ft across the street is fantastic snorkeling amongst the reefs. A 15 minute walk to the main road, 5 minutes by bike, or just wait a sec and a tuc tuc taxi will zip by. Nice to be close to the action of town but super peaceful and quiet at home every night. Angel was always around in case you needed anything or had questions, but not in your way. He arranged for our transportation to the ferry for departure. We loved working with Sue, she was absolutely perfect with all parts of this trip, from planning, to booking, payments and deposit refund. We would love to go back to Utila and there is no doubt that we will absolutely stay at one of Sue's places again. You can't go wrong and will not be disappointed.
Sue Ruttman, known throughout Utila as Ms. Sue, owns a cluster of three houses in the Blue Bayou area a mile or so west of town. Round House, the biggest of the three, sits in the middle of a nice beach. Two identical houses, Oyster Lagoon House 1 and 2, sit just across a narrow lane with their backs against a mangrove and their namesake lagoon. Ms. Sue lives in Oyster Lagoon House 1. We rented Oyster Lagoon House 2.
We loved the location. We rented bicycles at $2/day from Angel, the friendly guy who takes care of Ms. Sue’s property. The bikes were not in the best of shape, but they served just fine for our nearly daily trips to town and various sightseeing excursions. After nightfall we walked with flashlights in hand because of the poor condition of the roads.
The house is in excellent condition. It has a large front room/kitchen/dining area and two identical bedrooms each with their own toilet and shower. The house works for a small family or two couples. There are porches along the front and back. They offer a fine roost for morning coffee and reading.
The caretaker, Angel, is around the property nearly every day. He was extremely helpful and even brought us fresh fish he had caught one evening. He handles all your needs, like ordering beer to be delivered and bottled water as needed. We were given a phone when we arrived that we could use to call him any time. The house also comes with several kayaks. We spent a wonderful day kayaking across the islands through a mangrove forest.
The beach across the road is less than 50 meters from a great area of reef. How many places in the world can you snorkel in world-class waters just out your front door? Walking 2 minutes further west you find yourself at a dock with a bar. We snorkeled there almost every day. Nearby is the water taxi pick up for Neptune Beach, another fine snorkeling site, this one equipped with a fine restaurant.
We highly recommend the Oyster Lagoon House and the Round House.
We just spent 2 weeks in the Oyster Lagoon Beach house and it was just perfect! Best location on the island: close to the public beach (5 min by bike), close enough to the village (8 min by bike) but far away enough to be quiet and silent, and close to the best spot for snorkeling of the island (from Coral View)! (2 min walking) and 2 min walking from a good dive shop-center!
The house is very comfortable, good beds, huge living-room-kitchen space, kitchen with enough things to be able to cook. Kayaks...
Angel is very nice and helpful!!!
If we wanted to go back to Utila, we surely would rent this house again, or maybe the round house right in front of it, also owned by Sue in order to have the terrace in front of the sea...
Thanks to Sue and Angel!!!!
Oyster Lagoon Beach House is a very comfortable house with plenty of space and ammenities. It is situated in a quiet part of Utila and proved to be ideal for a family of four. The convenient pick-up and drop off made it all very simple. We would thoroughly recommend this.
The Coral View Dive Shop is a 2 minute walk down the beach road. They provide tanks for shore diving and lights for night snorkels. They are a full service dive shop with a friendly and experienced staff and good equipment and boats. Whaleshark watching/snorkeling availabe certain times of the year through all dive shops and/or the WhaleShark Center (WORSOC) and also with charter boats - ask owner for more information. Charter boats rides around the island or to the Cays. Stand Up Paddle Boarding.
