About Laura Watrous

I'm Laura Watrous. My husband and partner, Brett Watrous, are the owners of the two luxury vacation cabins that make up Riverwalk Vacation Rentals. We love our life in the mountains and find great joy sharing our special piece of the world with guests. Our cabins were originally designed with the kind of comfort and luxury we strive for when we vacation.

Laura Watrous purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Laura Watrous chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

The saying goes: 'I wasn't born in Burnsville but I got here as quickly as I could' The climate is perfect with four different seasons: Beautiful cool Summers, colorful Falls, relatively mild Winters, and fresh colorful Springs. Morning Glory is in a perfect location to make the most of why a Blue Ridge Mountain vacation is great any time of the year.

What makes this cabin unique

Morning Glory cabin is private yet convenient to features not available anywhere else. This cabin sits just above the Cane River with a wide open view of the river. The sound of the river actually echos in the porch rafters. Guests of Riverwalk also have access to two privately owned riverside parks which cater to our guests. One with pool & playground, the other with picnic pavilion, river tubes, large fire pit and youth zip line. There are 200+ acres of hiking and exploring right on the Riverwalk property. Neighboring farm with people friendly horses, donkeys and a goat. Farm owner offers horse 'time' for a small fee. Riverwalk is close to Blue Ridge Parkway, Mount Mitchell and The Pisgah National Forest (pedestrian, bike, equestrian trails).

Guestbook comments from the manager

What an Escape!

  • 5 of 5

We had such a superb time staying at RiverWalk in May, 2006. The amenities were impeccable, the hosts gracious and the scenery breathtaking. We highly recommend this getaway and will hopefully return soon!

Peaceful and relaxing family vacation

  • 4 of 5

My family and I enjoyed our time at Morning Glory and on the Riverwalk property. The cabin was just right for us and the sound of the river echoing off the porch was great as we sat in the hot tub or rocking chairs. We enjoyed relaxing by the river at the park area and the event center which were great little places to be out in nature and enjoy its beauty. I even got to do a little trout fishing which was a lot of fun. Everything we needed to get away and be recharged.

We look forward to returning in the future when my daughter is older and she can enjoy the area a little better. Next time we will have to stay longer than an extended weekend in order to explore the area more. We stayed on the property the entire time but look forward to some hikes in and around Pisgah.

The only minor difficulty we had during our stay was that we had some trouble getting a fire started (firewood was still a bit wet) but we were still able to enjoy delicious s'mores one night.

Thanks again for having us and we hope that we will be back out there again in the future!

Wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

It was isolated yet close to town and shopping for supplies. It had everything you'd need and was well maintained. Heaters and fireplace kept it plenty warm. Ample parking and living space. Wifi crashed but was easily reset. Owner is very accessible and helpful.

Just don't be 5 minutes late at checkout, or they will knocking on the door. :-)

A wonderful cabin in the mountains

  • 5 of 5

My sister and I treat ourselves to a few days in the mountains each year. We have been going to another place for a number of years, but decided to try something new this year. We hit PAY DIRT with the Morning Glory cabin. Laura was absolutely wonderful to work with. She answered all of our questions before we booked, she checked in with us when we arrived to ensure everything was OK, and she made sure we were happy with our stay before we left. The cabin was cozy, clean, comfortable and simply wonderful. The amenities were plentiful, and we had everything we needed. There are lots of hiking trails, beautiful views, a rushing river and plenty of peace and serenity. We WILL be back. We are two, very happy customers! I can't recommend this place highly enough.

Great Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in the cabin for the weekend for our wedding and it was so nice! The girls and I stayed before the wedding so we could have a place close by to get ready and then my husband and I stayed there our wedding night. The views were so pretty and the cabin was nice and clean and very spacious. We didnt need anything extra besides food because Laura had everything there for us! We hope to go back and celebrate our 1 year anniversary next year! :)

Beautiful escape....

  • 5 of 5

This was a last minute, lightly planned escape for a weekend to the mountains. After scouring the internet for some locations, I was fortunate to come across Riverwalk and the Morning Glory cabin which just happened to be available for our two night/three day stay. Located just a couple of hours from our home in Kings Mountain, the drive up on Friday evening was very pleasant. Our stay was on January 29-31, a couple of weeks after a major snowstorm hit the Carolinas, so the remnants of snow and ice were still present in the mountains, making for beautiful scenery. The cabin owner (Laura) was very efficient and responsive to e-mails during the rapid planning, and was available throughout our stay via telephone and e-mail.

The cabin itself is gorgeous - nicely decorated, but not cluttered with knick-knacks as some cabins are. The upstairs loft with the King Bed option was super-comfortable. Individual room heaters made the cabin comfortable despite temperatures dropping down toward the mid 20s each night. As well, the fireplace with the unlimited pre-cut firewood was very nice. There is high speed internet that was flawless, and a TV that we never turned on (yay!). Instead, we played Scrabble and enjoyed some drinks and great meals cooked in. We never left the Riverwalk area to head into town, instead electing to bring our food in a cooler to cook. The kitchen is nicely outfitted with all of the skillets, pots, pans, and utensils you'd ever need.

The hot tub was set to a comfortable level prior to our arrival and we really enjoyed sitting out under the stars in the evening while staying warm in the hot tub. It is worth mentioning that the hot tub cover has a very convenient lifting bar that makes removing and replacing the hot tub cover a piece of cake - a nice feature that prevents you from having to struggle with a heavy and awkward hot tub cover.

The Riverwalk area was really nice. We hiked along the river, then up past the barn and even tackled Anderson's Anguish trail to the top of the property, a nice climb in the snow. We spotted many deer and raccoon tracks. The boys (ages 5 and 7) enjoyed taking some rides on the very safe zip line (not very high..but long enough for a fun ride) and they really enjoyed tromping around in the snow. The grounds of the Riverwalk area is really nice - very quiet and the constant background murmur of the river is so soothing. I'll be the area is gorgeous in both the spring and fall.
