This is a beautiful house. Great rooms. Plenty of space to spread out and relax. The view is serene and beautiful. I would recommend this house in the summer so you could enjoy the river more. We stayed during the winter, which was beautiful but its definitely limiting with the cold, dampness, and the deck was covered with slippery moss that should have been taken care of as a number of us lost our footing. The main issue with this location is the neighborhood. It is very tight between houses so sound travels easily. With just adults and a couple a quiet kids, we received a noise complaint. It was quite funny as we were in the upstairs just talking and laughing. Just something to keep in mind. That being said, we would go back here again and enjoy the place during the summer. The Owner is VERY KIND, sweet, welcoming, and thorough. We appreciated her so much! This place is in a PERFECT location for attending lots of wineries! We had some of the best wines ever, within 15-20 mins. of the house. Beautiful house and location that is great for a peaceful, quiet retreat.
We brought four couples and the house was perfect. Spacious rooms, wonderful common area, gorgeous views, and terrific location right next to the Russian River. Karen was very responsive to all inquiries. We're hoping to rent the house again during the summer when we can take greater advantage of the riverside location.
This was a great house with a functional layout, decent kitchen and a wonderful views of the river and redwoods. When I look for rental houses, I always try to find ones that are cozy and comfortable without seeming super "lived-in". You don't want to see someone's toothbrush on the sink, family photos everywhere or a kid-themed room. That said, I felt like this house went a little too far in the direction of not lived in. It lacked the attention to detail that makes a home inviting--the beds are in mostly empty bedrooms on plain metal frames, there's no art on the walls downstairs, no curtain on the upstairs bathroom, the pillows and comforters were all synthetic fill, the bottom cushions on the two small couches slide off when you sit etc. With just a few small changes this whole house could be transformed from functional and fine to inviting and amazing: with some bedroom furniture, better bedding and pillows, and some more and better seating in the living area (a sectional would be lovely!), you'd have the perfect russian river getaway.
A few other things to note:
1) Heat distribution was an issue for us with only one thermostat--we were here in December so it would get uncomfortably warm in the living room upstairs and the bedrooms would be chilly downstairs. We had our 4 month old with us and had to rearrange where everyone was sleeping the second night to put her upstairs where it was warm enough for her. I imagine this wouldn't be an issue in other seasons where it would be warm enough to open the french doors out to the beautiful deck.
2) if you want to light a fire, you need to buy those duraflame logs--you can get them at the safeway in downtown guerneville, but the house does not provide them.
3) the property manager and owner were both responsive and helpful. We had some issues with the water heater and they were very prompt in answering the phone and helping us troubleshoot.
Overall, we had a wonderful stay here and the house worked out well. With just a few adjustments, this house could easily be a five-star getaway.
Karen's home is better than advertised! The rooms are comfortable, the kitchen was stocked with everything we needed and the deck, dining room and living areas were great for our family time.
But the big feature is her back yard which literally goes right to the lake. Kids can play in the backyard, surrounded by gorgeous redwood trees, and the dock is easy enough to get to!
Perfectly located, with short drive to wineries, antique shops, and more. We'll definitely be back!!
The house was clean and well maintained. Everything was as represented. We had a great time!
Vacation Home is within twenty minutes drive to major wineries and walking distance to town.
