House, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath, (Sleeps 4)
At the edge of the ocean just 25 feet from the water sits "The Glenmere Ocean House." This one floor, two bedroom house is the perfect secluded vacation home. Tides rise and fall ten feet so things are always changing. Lobster boats, kayaks and sailboats pass by. The feeling of spaciousness toward the ocean is enhanced by a rocky beach 1000 feet long next door that angles away from the house.
Everything is provided. Full kitchen, all linens, washer and dryer, everything you need to walk in and start enjoying the beautiful views, incredible sunsets, a fireplace, large deck and screened porch. Easy launch from the beach if you have your own kayak. Or, consider visiting our friends at Port Clyde Kayaks where you can rent one for a day, or arrange a guided paddling tour around the harbor or out to the famous Marshall Point Lighthouse and the inner islands. There is Wi-Fi high speed Internet Access.
Please keep reading but to proceed with a reservation, use "Ask Owner a Question" or if you use “Request to Book,” please add a message because all bookings require communicating with us before anything is final.
Our place is very quiet. Perfect for relaxing and reading but also a perfect 'jumping off' point for visits to places like Rockland (20 minutes) for unique shops, restaurants, and summer festivals, or Camden (40 min) for Windjammer sailing and an iconic Maine town--a river runs under it and into the harbor, or Boothbay Harbor (1.5 hours) for a Whale Watch or further 'down east' to Bar Harbor (2.5-3 hours) for famous Acadia Nat'l Park and whale watch boats there too. Close to home at Port Clyde, 1 mile away, take the boat to Monhegan Island, or a puffin/nature cruise or a lighthouse tour/cruise.
Our ocean waterfront is Muscongus Bay as it meets the Atlantic Ocean. Sometimes we have crashing waves but usually it is quieter than bold ocean frontage. Look on this page for the link to our video.
We have our own highly admired web page for the house. To see it search glenmerehouse and to help you find us, we pay VRBO/Homeaway for this listing. They have their procedures and they charge you a "Service Fee" but you are renting from us, not from them, and we are always available for questions or help. We have been renting for more than 20 years and as owners, not lodging professionals, we just might miss the 24 hour promise they give you but if they take you away from us, check back.
Thank you for your interest in our place.

We have rented many weeks each year for almost 25 years and some of our guests have returned as many as twelve years in a row. We enjoy it ourselves more and more in retirement but it is still available for a few weeks each season.

Maine Vacation Rental
My family totally enjoyed staying at the Glenmere House. It was clean, well maintained, and offered all the conveniences of home. While secluded, groceries and other supplies were 30 minutes away tops. We enjoyed watching the lobster boats work from the seaside porch. The owners were pleasant and easy to work with.
Best location ever
My husband and I just returned from the most relaxing week in Maine we had ever had. Glenmere Ocean House isn't fancy but everything you will need is there and the views and quiet can't be beat. It is way off the beaten path but if that is what you are looking for, this is perfect.
A Great Vacation
A Great Vacation
My wife and I rented this cottage in August of 2013: we found the owners easy to deal with - straightforward, accurate, and prompt. We also found the website description to be complete and accurate. The information sent us made cottage easy to find and access.
The water supply was good, the parking convenient and private. The cottage was clean and well-kept, the linens provided were clean and altogether adequate. Many rentals don't provide linens and pillows, so this was a real convenience. The views from the deck, screened porch, and living room were every bit as good as shown on the website.
We had wonderful weather and greatly enjoyed just sitting on the deck and watching the tides, the sunsets, and the occasional lobster boat or sailboat go by. We were able to gather perfectly good mussels (check for red tide with the Maine Department of Marine Resources!) within 50 feet or so of the cottage.
The kitchen and equipment were good, the lobster pot was the nicest I've seen for 2-4 lobsters. (Soft-shells, the only way to go, were $3.49/lb. at Mosquito Lobster Co., 5 minutes away in Port Clyde - a trip I made frequently) Our only complaint was that we could have used a couple of extra lobster picks and nut crackers - but that didn't seem to slow us down much.
Although the cottage provides quiet and privacy, the short distance to Port Clyde and Tenant's Harbor enabled shopping, dining, etc. For example, we really enjoyed the lighthouse tour on the Laura B. out of Port Clyde,
All in all, we had a lovely time, and look forward to repeating it.
