Classic Maine summer cottage only 30' from the lake with its own private floating dock. Located on the west side of Cobbosseecontee Lake with a panoramic view of the southern half of the lake. The spacious outside deck and large, private lot add to the 'away from it all' atmosphere. A modern kitchen and Vermont Castings heater provide convenience and warmth to this comfortable seasonal cottage.
Mike Melendy and Jim Wilson, the proprietors, are Maine natives. Mike's parents had a summer home which included the cottage and he grew up on the lake. When he married Jim's daughter in 1994 they built a lakefront home nearby the cottage. Mike and his family and Jim and his wife now enjoy living on the lake and meeting the families and guests who vacation there.
Jim Wilson purchased this cottage in 2005
The cottage was originally a simple sleeping porch which was expanded over time. Mike's parents sold it to good friends of theirs who enjoyed it for over thirty years. In 2003 Mike and Jim were offered the cottage to purchase and they jumped at the opportunity to own it.
The location of the cottage midway on the western side of Cobbosseecontee Lake provides spectacular views and its site on a small point provides privacy and peaceful spot for families and guests to enjoy.
Beautiful cottage on a fantastic lake, well maintained and kept very clean. All the amenities you would want with a great place to keep your boat. Great layout inside and out, superb customer service, and great people to rent from. This is our fouth year and would highly recommend this cottage to anyone who enjoys the water, the outdoors, and the relaxation. For the fisherman well it's one of the best bass lakes in the country. A GREAT PLACE TO ENJOY MAINE.
Our family has been visiting Lake Cobbosseecontee for over 30 years. The lakeside view from this cottage is fabulous, the scene relaxing and quiet. It drains the day to day stress of life right out of you. The sounds of nature can lull you to sleep, wake you to a bright new day or astound you. Moonlit nights by a campfire, the milky way overhead, sunrises over a still lake and rainbow lit skies all are available treats. What else could you want in an escape back to simple living.
I have been terribly negligent in not writing a review before now, but I think subconsciously I didn’t want to broadcast what a gem of a place this is. We first rented it several years ago and have returned yearly, and if I could, I would rent this camp every day that it is available. The house is so clean and well-provisioned, the view of the lake is absolutely gorgeous, and the owners are helpful and exceptionally nice people. The patio outside is a perfect place for relaxing on a summer’s evening, while the cove offers an easy launching place for the kayaks. It is great to paddle around the lake on a calm morning and watch as it comes to life. The fishing on the lake is excellent, and we’ve seen deer, eagles, osprey and beavers. I can't think of many things better in the world than lying in bed at night listening to the call of the loons. I believe there is a slogan that says, “Maine – The Way Life Should Be.” This cabin proves the point.
We were a group of 4 touring Maine on motorcycles. The cabin was exactly as descriped. It is on a beautiful lake with wonderful views from the living room or the patio/deck. The kitchen was exceptionally stocked with spices, sugar, cleaning supplies, as well as cooking items and dinner wear. You couldn't ask for more- which is so nice not having the remember all that when packing. It was spotless and well kept. The owners live next door and were very pleasant and obviously took pride in the cabin. We would definatly recommend this to others and would come back again.
Since we were on motorcycles are main objective was to ride vs seeing attractions. We rode to Camden and Rockport, which are very busy and tourist orientened and not that impressive, as was the same in the Boothbay area. But we ate at McSeaguls in Boothbay, which was outstanding. The state park outside Camden has a nice view of the bay. We rode to the Pemaquid penninsula, which was beautiful with what you think of the Maine coast and lighthouse. We would highly recommend that area. Gorham Notch State Park was beautiful with mountains, vistas and gorges- a ride suggested by the owner.
Just returned from a beautiful week on te lake, this is the place to be! Camp had everything a family could want in a vacation, helpful owners, well stocked, clean neat and right on the water.
We will be back next year!
We have been coming to Maine in the fall for many years, and have never been as pleased with a cottage as we were with this one. Comfortable accomodations, best set-up in kitchen, great stove, and views from almost everywhere.
Close to the water... how about surrounded by the most beautiful part of this huge lake. Best spot ever to put in kayaks or canoes.
If the TV service were better, as we told owners, they would have had to evict us. Will return as often as possible.
Cobbosseecontee Lake is the central and largest in the Winthrop Lakes area. The water quality for fishing, swimming and recreational use is unsurpassed. The Winthrop Lakes area is close to shopping in Augusta, antiquing in Hallowell and the many summer features of the region.
