When it comes to historical heritage, Tarsus doesn’t fall short of Gaziantep or Mardin. Filmmakers discovered its spectacular background years ago, yet tourists have yet to flock to the area. Efsus provides another good reason to set out in that direction. Two old mansions built a couple of centuries ago were combined to create this hotel at the heart of the old quarter of Tarsus. It takes it name from the town’s historical name. The bathrooms may be a little too modern, the satin curtains too shiny, but the heavy walnut furniture, the old radios and other little details contribute to create a nostalgic atmosphere. The owner is Seçil Sancaktar, a sweet woman who abandoned a career in Istanbul to return to her roots. She is using her business acumen to good effect in this hotel, which she runs with the help of relatives.
