Why Owner chose Chichester
Just a half hour from the Thruway, and yet a world away from life's worries. After vacationing in the area for the previous eight years, I decided to move from Long Island and settle here. I love everything about this rural area, the rush of the stream, the fragrance of Spring flowers, the changing of the leaves, the clean snow, and having four ski mountains to choose from.

Comfortable retreat in an enjoyable locale
The setting is beautiful, amidst woods and rivulets, and close to spectacular walks and waterfalls; let alone being mid-Fall. The cottage is well-equipped and very comfortable, and we hope to be able to re-visit before we leave the USA in 2018. Moments of rain simply meant snug relaxation in Paul's lovely cottage. Or heading into Phoenicia for a pleasant meal and drinks at Brio's. A very pleasant long weekend for us; hopefully longer if there's a next time.
Thank you both for taking the time to write such a wonderful review!
I look forward to having you back.
All the best,
Perfect vacation spot!
I just got back from ten days at this lovely cottage and I give it my highest recommendation. The cottage was perfect -- spotless, well equipped with everything we needed; and and a lovely yard.
The area is beautiful with great hiking, etc. The town of Phoenicia (next town over) was charming and friendly.
And the owner was terrific -- provided everything to make for a perfect stay.
Great location, clean, bright, fully equipped, and very comfortable.
My wife, two good friends, our dog and I had a wonderful time staying here over the Easter weekend. The kitchen served us well in preparing tasty meals, living room is spacious, and my wife and I loved the master bedroom with skylight. The bed and pillows were very comfortable. Our friends seemed to enjoy the double bed room. The bathroom, and kitchen, has excellent lighting and good features. I was hoping to use the bathtub after a long day of hiking but my wife told me not to bother as it is set up for showering.
We used the fire pit out in the back area, buying a bundle of wood at the general store, perfect for an after dinner fire. I added a few more logs to the make-shift bridge to help get across the stream separating the house from the fire pit.
Overall, we loved our stay and look forward to our next visit. We especially liked being close to the town of Phoenicia and to several trail heads for hiking.
we had a lovely stay at the cottage. perfect size for a family of 4... great location, close to skiing. kids loved exploring the grounds
Great cottage in the woods
The location was perfect. I was looking for a place that was both pet friendly and close to the ski resorts. This fit the bill. House was clean, fully stocked and Paul was there to answer any questions we had. It would also be great in the warm temperatures because there is a cute picnic area set down by the stream. Highly recommend!
This cottage has a terrible musty smell of mildew. Upon first walking into the cottage, we were appalled at the smell. Then, in the bathroom, when we ran the hot water, it smelled of rotten eggs (sulfur). Utterly disappointing! I paid way too much money for this!
Shelly was furious that she couldn't check in when she wanted, based on the misunderstanding that we had to meet first to handle the balance payment..
Had she read the confirmation e-mail sent to every traveler, she would have realized that she had access to the cottage whether we met or not.
When we finally met, she was inconsolable, so I am not surprised at the negative review.
It does sadden me, as this is the first negative review I've ever had. I clean the cottage myself, and have not noticed the issues she describes. My priority is to make it difficult to stay away, no the other way around.
Stream side picnic area with fire ring behind the cottage.
