We stayed here in July of 2014 and this cabin was fully furnished and very clean. It is beautiful up on the mountain and a nice getaway from all the noise and tourists in town. We very much enjoyed our stay and it was very close to all of the attractions that our family wanted to see. The awesome thing is that is was like a minute from Pactola Lake which we enjoyed for an entire day. We rented a pontoon and we were able to take a break, drive up the mountain to relax and eat lunch and come back down to the lake. We loved every minute of our vacation and also wanted to thank the owners for their quick responses to all of our inquiries.
Quiet, secluded, very comfortable, clean and away from the touring crowds, this mountain retreat was perfect for my husband and me with our two teenaged nieces. Yes, you will have to drive almost 3 miles off of Hwy 385 on a winding, mostly gravel road with some steep inclines to get there, but a good location for touring all the Black Hills sites. The owner was very responsive to our needs. I'd recommend it to a friend.
Let me start with the positive.....the cabin itself is very nice. The setting is beautiful and the deck is fantastic. The home is comfortable and felt spacious. We visited for Sturgis Bike Week and were told that the road leading to the cabin was adequate for motorcycles to ride up. We were very dissappointed as this is not the case. The road to the "developement" is loose gravel, dusty, narrow, winding, uphill and unlit. By the time we arrived at the entrance to the complex, we were already overwhelmed. We could not imagine taking the bikes up and down these roads twice a day for the entire week. At this point, we were ready to turn around and make the 24 hour trip back to Cleveland. We were mislead about this road being safe for motorcycle traveling. The owner was able to get us in contact with the owners of the bed and breakfast at the bottome of the hill, who were gracious enough to let us leave our bikes on their property. This is the reason why we stayed. The cabin itself was great but it is not the place to stay if you bring your motorcycles for Bike Week.
In the center of all the sites & activities: Mt. Rushmore, 1880's Train, Custer State Park, Crazy Horse, Hill City, Deadwood (casinos), Terry Peak, Golf, 4-Wheel Trails, Fishing, Hunting & Sturgis. 1880's Train to Keystone. Lake Pactola located 1 mile away which also had 1/2 day and full day pontoon rentals. Sheridan Lake is approximately 5 miles away.
