Lauderdale Lakefront Cottage - Near Lake Geneva

Bedrooms 4
Half Baths1
Space 2,300 sq. ft.
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 - 7 nights

About the property

House, 4 Bedrooms + Convertible bed(s), 1.5 Baths, (Sleeps 8-10)

Come be our guests in this Wisconsin cottage just north of Lake Geneva on the Lauderdale chain of lakes. This fully furnished home is located on Green Lake, the northern most of the 3 spring-fed lakes that total 950 acres.

The house overlooks the water, facing west for beautiful summer sunsets which can be enjoyed from the screen porch, the stone BBQ patio, the boathouse roof-top, or the waterfront patio with private pier.

Our four bedroom home with hide-a-bed will accommodate up to ten people. There is a full kitchen, separate dining room, and generous living room with splendid views of the lake. Enjoy cocktails and dinner on the roof of the boat house, relax and read in the hammock, and play with the kids in the swimming area! If you are lucky, perhaps you will be preparing your own fresh-caught fish for dinner, if not, there are plenty of dining and grocery options nearby.

The lakes are great for fishing, with Large and Small Mouth Bass, Bluegill, Northern Pike, and Walleye so bring your boat! Additionally, boats and Jet Skis can be rented from the Lauderdale Lakes Marina. On the adjacent bay there is a free water ski show every Friday night put on by the Lauderdale Aqua Skiers water ski show team.

Close to Kettle Moraine State park for biking and hiking and horseback riding. There are lots of antique shops in Elkhorn, East Troy, and Lake Geneva, and 15 golf courses in the area. There is plenty to do, but you may just choose to stay and play in the lake!

About Doug

Our family loves vacationing at the lake! It's just an hour and a half away, but it feels like a thousand miles, and years back in time to a quieter bygone era. When we pull in to the driveway, the first thing the kids want to do is get into their suits, and run off the end of the dock into the water! They often pause though to swing on the rope-swing strung 40' up in an oak tree. After a day of playing in the lake, and dinner outside watching the sunset, we often head back into the woods for a bonfire, marshmallows & s'mores at our fire pit.

Doug purchased this house in 2005

Why Doug chose Southern Wisconsin

When to opportunity arose to buy this turn of the century (the last one!) cottage, in this idyllic locale, so close to home, we couldn't pass it up!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Thank you for sharing your beautiful lake home. We all had a wonderful time! Thank you again and have a wonderful summer!

Family Lake Getaway

  • 4 of 5

We rented the cottage on Lauderdale Lakes for a week as a group of us were going to a concert at nearby Alpine Valley and decided to make a vacation out of it. If you are going to rent on Lauderdale, Green Lake where this cottage is located is by far the best lake to be on. Swam and fished right off the pier. The cottage had plenty of room inside and out for our 9 adults and 1 little one. Boat house roof deck is a great place to watch a sunset. Doug was extremely attentive before, during and after our stay. We were able to use a friends pontoon boat for the week and tie it up the Doug's pier and still have plenty of room to swim. Great vacation, great cottage, thanks Doug!

House is very old, the landscaping is very over grown not well cared for. Their is next to no water pressure for the one very very tiny bsthroom. House also has a funky smell like its been locked up for a long time musty Smelling. The boat house deck was under vonstruction and not as promised. Be sure to read all the fine print Doug will do all he can to keep your security deposit

Owner's Response: Chuck, I'm sorry that you feel that losing your deposit because you and your guests chose to smoke marijuana, despite clear boldface type in the rules that there is NO SMOKING permitted, warranted this deceitful review. It's keeping in character though with a leasee who breaks furniture and attempts to hide it and throws dishes in the trash as opposed to washing them. We both know that you, your family and guests had a wonderful time and enjoyed my place, as you all told me when I saw you. To my potential future guests, our cottage is on a well, and so the water pressure is on the low side of normal, so it won't peel off your skin if that's what you like, but it's certainly adequate for showering.

California mom with midwestern roots

  • 5 of 5

We had a small family reunion -- my mom, sister, niece, husband, 2 sons and a dog. This was exactly the right place for us. We cooked in the large kitchen, ate at the long dining room table, relaxed on the back screened in porch with lovely views and breezes, spent hours on the pool-house deck looking out over the lake, at the boats, at the lovely homes and trees. The kids and I took inflatables out on the lake just off the dock to cool off. We rented a boat at the nearby marina for the day and motored around; that was really fun. The kids took over the living room and played games at the table in front of the big picture window overlooking the lake. They also enjoyed the swing. We found wonderful gourmet cheese, fresh produce, and other foods at the Piggly Wiggly (a grocery store), but really did not feel the need to venture out other than that. Oh wait, we took the kids zip lining nearby; that was fun. We will return.

Beautiful View on the Lake!

  • 5 of 5

Our whole family enjoyed the time spent at the Lauderdale Lakefront cottage on Green Lake. It has one of the best views on the lake! The house was larger than I expected though most of the time was spent on the boat house deck and the lake. As indicated in other reviews - the house had most everything we needed. With Doug's help we were able to rent a boat for a couple of days and enjoy water skiing. We are considering buying a lake house one day but until then we would stay here again!

Best cottage on the lake!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a great time @ Doug Hood's Lake Cottage. It was clean, had everything you would/could need. A beautiful lake spot with a darling outside deck for seating on the lake & cool boat ramp for pushing your brother's in. Very charming house & Doug was a pleasure to deal with. I would make one suggestion & that would be to put some kind of lighting down the back steps by the seating patio/lake area. Dangerous in the dark. A fall waiting to happen. We will be back and would recommend the cottage/lake house to anyone.

Owner's Response: Thank you Carmen, we are glad you enjoyed your stay and we look forward to having you back! Thank you for the suggestion about lighting for the stairs to the lake, I will look into adding a switch at the top of the stairs for the light on the waterfront!
