Guestbook comments from the owner

It is the first place we have rented that I would love to rent again. We truly enjoyed our stay. The dock is fantastic....even with the rain, I was able to sit outside under the gazebo while my family fished from the bottom level. The cove and lake are beautiful! The house was very comfortable and the game room very fun.

Beautiful views, very nice home..

  • 5 of 5

We have stayed at several properties at Norris, and plan to retire here. We brought our children, brother and sister in law, my parents and our grandchildren. This home was ready for us. Beautiful master bedroom, with nice master bath. The home is well decorated and it was very clean when we arrived.Kitchen is well stocked and we brought too many items from my pantry- as there were a lot of spices and things we don't normally have.

Bill was easy to work with, and the next door neighbor Bill came over to see what he could do to help when our boat had problems. He gave us numbers and names of people to call for work to be done. Ultimately we just used the pontoon that my parents brought, but he was very helpful. The only downfall to the location of the home was the utter uselessness of our AT&T cell phones. My Brother in law and sister in law had Verizon, and theirs worked most of the time. We could get reception on the lake in a couple of spots and since I work by phone we had to make a couple of trips daily to get messages. We didnt want to leave and look forward to another possible stay at the Vogel's home. Thanks Bill!!

Beautiful, private setting on the lake

  • 5 of 5

My siblings and our families had a wonderful stay here. The house is beautiful and well appointed especially the kitchen. Has everything you could possibly need. House is situated on a nice alcove in the lake with a great double decker dock that the kids (and adults) jumped off for hours. Paved walkway down to lake for golf cart versus trudging up and down stairs. Really was a fantastic property and owner was great to work with. Would absolutely stay here again.

A "10" at Lake Norris

  • 5 of 5

This was our first trip to Lake Norris so we took our sons and several of their teenaged friends to experience lake house living. Well I have to say if I had a home like this one I wouldn't want to go back home! The bunk room was key for several teenagers to have their own space. The rest of the house was beautiful, huge kitchen w/ everything you would ever need. Great bedrooms and awsome decks for enjoying the views. Hands down the best feature was the 2 level dock. We had so much enjoyment jumping off the top deck and swimming in the clear Aqua green water, it was fantastic.

Be prepared however for the walk back up. You can rent a cart to travel up and down and that might not be a bad idea for some. Bill was great to work with and was prompt in responding to any questions. We will defiantly be back.

Goord rental but needs a few disclaimers

  • 4 of 5

This review is not meant to be negative but there are enough reviews so far to describe the house, dock and owner which for the most part I agree with so I will focus on a few "need to knows" that I feel are not explained in any or enough detail. Yes the house is great and the owner responses are good with the exception of the request for internet usage report which I'll explain later. The walk up from the dock is not for the faint of heart, particularly the last 40ft when you begin to "feel the burn". If your not in shape or might have to many coctails rent a cart or at least a cooler with wheels. The dock does not have cleats to tie a boat up but the owner has told me that he will install some. The closest place to put in a boat is whitmans hollow which by boat is only ten minutes away but by car will take you almost 40 minutes thru small one lane roads so plan accordingly. Do not rely on cell phone gps....trust me. Get a good up to date gps. The house has internet but i recommend not using it due to possible overages. Im not sure what happened but I gave no one the wifi password and only looked up a part for my boat so I was sure I did not go over the 2gig limit. I was suprised when 24.12 was deducted out of my deposit for internet overages. Owner said it was possibly netflicks was used on one of the smart tvs which apparently are always hooked into the wifi so be careful if your kids are on the tvs. We dont have a net flicks account and Im not sure if the owners always stays logged in. In any case I asked for a break down of the the usage but never recieved. Overall a good stay but I feel like it was clouded up a by a few nickles and dimes.

Owner's Response: We sincerely appreciate the candid comments of our renters and proactively provide the link to leave a review to each and every renter following their departure. When a review has comments that may be enhanced with additional information, we hope the remarks below are taken in the context they are meant…for clarification not rebuttal. 1.) The walk up from the dock In the information packet we send to every renter the following is noted: Want to rent a golf cart vs. walking the hill? • You can rent a golf cart for $400 per week (delivery and pickup included). As is typical at Norris Lake, the elevation difference from the house to the lake can be steeper than some are accustom to. Golf carts are available through Ron’s Golf Carts (423-201-9489). 2.) The closest place to put in a boat In the information packet we send to every renter, we suggest that you drop the boat off at Whitman Hollow Marina before you come to our house as you pass closely by it on the way. • Please note: There is not a good place to turn a boat around if you come to the house first. We are on a dead end road. If you are not very good at maneuvering a trailer, I strongly suggest that you drop the boat off at Whitman Hollow Marina before you come to our house. 3.) Internet Given our remote location, our internet options are limited. We recently installed HughesNet satellite internet service, however, HughesNet is not the unlimited internet many of us enjoy at home. We have selected the largest data plan offered with a HughesNet subscription (20GB per month). With each rental we equally divide that 20GB and allocate .667GB per day (20GB/30 days = .667GB per day) Given that the data is not unlimited, when it is used beyond the daily allocation we advise in advance that additional gigabytes will be provided at $12/GB as this is a direct cost we incur. Furthermore, we advise that iPhones connected to WiFi, pay-per-view movies on the Dish satellite TV and Netflix (an option available on 2 of the “smart” TV's) use internet data as well (SD: 0.7 GB per hour/ HD: up to 3 GB per hour). Finally, our ability to report detailed usage is limited to that which is available on the HughesNet website (and was, in fact, provided to the writer of the review). Upon arrival, we capture a time-stamped screen shot of the real time data allowance available and do the same at the time of checkout. Please feel free to call me if any questions remain. Awesome House at Norris Lake!

  • 5 of 5

This is our second stay in this house. We have rented homes at Norris Lake for 8 years, this is by far our favorite. The house, updated decorations, view are beautiful. All the extras that come with the house are great -fire pit, double deck dock, air hockey, darts, video games. The accommodations are perfect for families with kids. We had plenty of room with 14 people.

The information provided by the owner made the house easy to find. Communication with the owner was outstanding.

I would give it 10 stars if they would let me. We are already planning a return trip in 2017.

Beautiful House On The Lake

  • 5 of 5

This was our first visit to Norris Lake and we loved it. The house was beautiful and very clean. The furnishings were up-scale, the kitchen was huge and had everything you could ever need. We had 13 people on the weekend and the eat-at bar and large dining table accommodated all of us. The master suite and bedrooms were very nice and the bunk room was a hit with kids and adults alike (We had ping pong tournaments every night.). The outside decks were huge and we sat outside at the 2 umbrella tables most of the time when not down at the dock.

Everyone loved the 2 level dock. The kids loved jumping off the upper level into the lake. It had lots of chairs and lounges. The bottom level had a table and chairs. We spent most of our time down at the dock. The cove was private enough to swim safely but also close to the lake where you could ski and tube.

The concrete path was somewhat steep. We rented a golf cart to haul our coolers and the older family members. We would recommend a gas powered golf cart as it seemed to have more power going up the hill.

The owner was very friendly and helpful. His response to questions was very prompt. The information packet he provided about the area was most helpful (We went to McCloud Mountain Restaurant and the view was incredible.). We could not have asked for a better experience.

Located in a ridge and valley region, Norris Lake abounds in secluded coves. Recreational use of the reservoir exceeds that of any other tributary lake. Lake Norris is a great place for fishing, boating, swimming, and other water sports. Nestled between East Tennessee ridges, Norris Lake points the way to Cumberland Gap and the historic wilderness trail marked by Daniel Boone. With its clear deep water, it produces excellent catches of rock fish, walleye, and bass, as well as the usual species found in other area lakes. June through September night fishing for small mouth bass, croppie, white bass and walleye is a popular activity. Two small wild areas on Norris Lake provide visitors with
