We are a retired couple who loves to go and find peace and quiet and close to nature at the house and close to the water
Maria Paniagua / Adolfo Paniagua purchased this chalet in 2005
It is an ideal place to come and unwind with beautiful view of the bay and dawn and sunset on both sides of the house.
Complete relaxation, bird watching and walking in the sandy shore.
We found the unit absolutely filthy. Floors were gritty, dust balls behind all furniture and in corners. Stains on wood floors not wiped up. All surfaces and objects covered with dust (long term). Kitchen counters were sticky and grimy. Power was turned off for 1/2 of the electrical system so many lights and appliances could not work (I finally found the circuit box and turned them all on which solved the problem.) TV in living room was not hooked up so I had to do so. Many power strips with extension cords instead of appropriate outlets. TOTALLY OUT OF CODE AND UNSAFE.
Unit was advertised as Air conditioned. This was very misleading. In fact only one bedroom had a window unit A/C, the portable unit on the porch did not even cool the whole porch. There was one window unit upstairs which did not cool either of the bedrooms (which were equipped with fans on the walls proving owners knew there was a problem with A/C being insufficient. It was a very hot week and we sweltered and sweated the entire time.
Broken glass and broken light bulbs were found in the children's sand play area under the porch. The refrigerator broke down on day 2. We lost a lot of food. Owners did make an effort to resolve that but were unable to so we had to use coolers all week. They offered to send a new refrigerator on the day before our week was to be over, but we declined because we would have had to spend the whole day waiting for and supervising that delivery, thus losing valuable vacation time.
When we contacted owners after returning home and asked for a partial refund, their response was to say "you are just trying to get a deep discount from us with unreasonable arguments"
I would recommend avoiding this dangerous, dirty and run down property at all costs.
The owners were responsive to my inquires and gave an accurate description. The chalet style home is located on the DE Bay. There is NO hustle and bustle on the private and almost empty beach. The bay has a large tidal area; I did swim at high tide several times (bring water shoes). It is a nature lovers haven. The house has lovely views of the sunrise (which were enjoyed with coffee and camera in hand) and sunset (with a glass of wine of course). When the tide was out and the sun too hot, we stayed inside, enjoyed the view, played one of the many games, attempted one puzzle and read a book - all of which was provided by the owners. Our first day here we went to the DuPont Nature Center at the owners recommendation. The woman who greeted us was very knowledgable. She filled us in on the importance of horseshoe crabs (who knew) and the native wildlife. This made the stay for me more meaningful. My husband and I walked the beach "saving" horseshoe crabs." Because of the location and the wildlife, there were also greenflies - so don't forget the Off. Overall we had a vacation that did what we wanted it to do... help us to decompress. We are relaxed and enjoyed our stay. If this is what your looking for then I recommend Slaughter Beach. If you are looking for a crowded beaches with waves, traffic and noise-this is not the place. Peace & Tranquility
This house is absolutely beautiful! The owners thought of everything possible to make for a wonderful and comfortable experience. The view of the Delaware Bay is spectacular. I actually became a morning person here, and played my flutes to the sound of the birds and tide. The sunrises were breathtaking, and there was not a sound to be heard but the various birds and gentle sound of the wind. It was Zen-like. We wished we had booked another week, but take solace in the fact that we can always return to this haven of serenity. If you are looking to get back to nature and relish solitude, as we did, this is the place to go. We look forward to coming back. Thank you so much for renting your home to us!
