Breckenridge is the ideal location for both summer and winter vacations. It puts you in the middle of world class skiing, snowboarding, fishing, and golfing, so whatever the season there is always a reason for Breckenridge.
The Russell Clan currently lives all over the country - Illinois, Nevada, Colorado, North Carolina, South Carolina and Florida - but share a love for Colorado which began in 1983 when Grandparents Phil and Connie were stationed at Fitzsimmons Army Medical Center in Denver. The love continued when son Richard and new bride Kristie moved to the Denver area in 1998. Grandson Russell followed in 2003 to the U.S. Air Force Academy in Colorado Springs. Other family members, no longer able to stay away, joined together to purchase Wapiti Lodge, a home gracious and spacious enough for all of us to be together.
Katie Kingsbery purchased this house in 2005
What's not to love about Breckenridge? It is a wonderful mountain town with something for everyone and a town with as much to do in the summer as in the winter. Breckenridge gives us a wonderful respite from the sweltering heat and humidity back East and some true winter weather absent from the South. Its proximity to Denver makes it easily accessible for those who have to fly to Colorado. We can be in Breckeridge in under two hours after landing at DIA. Access to world class fly fishing, skiing, dining, shopping, hiking, not to mention the surrounding beauty and scenery made Breckenridge an easy choice.
After the home itself, with all its charm and comfort, the second most wonderful thing about Wapiti Lodge is its proximity to town. Katie and Doug often walk into town in the morning for a breakfast burrito. Connie and Phil are known to walk to town to get the paper. Ellen (the big shopper of the family)is usually able to convince someone to walk into town to go shopping. Richard and Kristie's three girls, ages 10, 12, and 14, love to walk to town knowing they can always take the bus home (the shuttle stop is one door up). And the whole family has been known to walk into town after dinner for ice cream. In the winter when the weather does not permit you to walk, the free shuttle takes just minutes to get to the base of Peak 9, downtown, or the gondola. The shuttle is frequent, reliable and easy to use.
Our family (9 adults) spent the long weekend at this beautiful home, and couldn't have asked for anything better. The house is perfectly located, just steps from town and a few minutes by car to great hikes. Views of the mountains only add to the ambiance. The house itself, though, is really the star-- every detail is thought out to accommodate a gathering such as ours. Fireplace, huge kitchen, hot tub, game room- all allowed for a relaxing, beautiful weekend. We were so comfortable and so happy-- I'd recommend to all interested parties!
We had five families stay at the house and all agreed it was an outstanding experience. From the ease of the keyless entry, to the amazingly well-equipped kitchen, to the ski/boot room (complete with boot and glove warmers), to the four master bedrooms, it was overall a pleasure to stay there. You can tell the owners take great pride in the property, and as a result, it doesn't at all feel like a rental home. We also enjoyed the hot tub and the close proximity to the ski shuttle stop. The home was everything as advertised and more! Nothing about the property disappointed us and we highly recommend it!
Our group of 5 families have been traveling to Breckenridge for 6 years straight and this was by the far the best lodging experience to date. The Wapiti team was first class in response, accommodation, and support. The attention to details throughout is amazing and the house has EVERYTHING needed for a comfortable and pleasurable stay (including nice beach towels close to the Hot Tub access, WOW). Amazing gourmet kitchen that will meet the needs of any "Master Chef". The layout worked well for a group of 19 that included ages from 13yrs to 55yrs. The house is clean, beautiful, welcoming, and in a great location. Highly recommended!
What a great week in Breck at this incredible home that can accommodate a large group and still have plenty of personal space. Katie and her group were very accommodating and prompt with communication. We can't wait to return and hopefully book here again. The home is very clean and beautiful; a great place to stay while visiting the awesome city of Breck.
It is time to say good bye. Our family from 4 years old to 70 years old would like to extend our thanks to Katie. We enjoyed our stay at the Wapiti Lodge. You have a beautiful house. It is thoughtfully prepared to receive guests. The kitchen has all the gadgets to be used by a chef. The mud rooms are great to receive the folks skiing and to help dry all the gear. The rooms are of a good size. Everything works well and the house is well kept. Gretchen, the house keeper was a pleasure to work with and always ready to accommodate all of our needs. The house is well located for the folks that wish to ski or just to walk to Main Street. The bus stop is close to the house. We would definitely recommend this beautiful home. We take home lots of good memories.
Our multi-family group have stayed in the mountains for the past 10 years - and this home by far was the THE MOST well stocked home we have ever stayed in.....even more than "luxury" homes we have rented. The home is exactly as the owners have described (which is very refreshing). We stayed during Thanksgiving and have a great deal of menu items on the holiday and throughout the week.....and any kitchen item needed was there. Even the knives were sharp! The bedrooms were great size and most had a bathroom in it which makes a big difference. The home was laid out well, clean and comfortable. Directions were easily available for all electronics and there were labels for where everything was supposed to go which made it so easy to find whatever you needed. The grill and wood fireplace were awesome and worked well. Plenty of extra blankets and pillows as well. Although we did not use the shuttle, the stop is close and it is a short walk to town. The property manager was SO helpful and friendly. Wapiti Lodge is a GREAT place for a family vacation.
