Acton Chalet Rental Photos and Description

- 3 BR, 1 BA, Sleeps 6.

The chalet faces south on a grassy 1/2 acre lot with 135 ft. of waterfront on Horn Pond. Trees on either side make the setting private with views across the lake towards the tree-lined hills of New Hampshire. The lake is a favorite with local fishermen. The lake is also perfect for water-skiing, tubing or kayaking. The U-shaped dock and float make boating and swimming easy and fun. The two-level house is comfortably furnished, with knotty pine throughout . Kitchen/dining area has lake views and is equipped with coffee machine, dishwasher, microwave, etc. Walk-out family room with lake views has gas fireplace for cool evenings. 2 bedrooms have double beds, one has bunks. Washing machine and dryer on lower level. Convenient outdoor hot-water shower. Enjoy wonderful views of the lake and listen to the call of the loons at night from the wide screen porch and large adjacent deck. Lots of garden/deck furniture make entertaining fun. Firepit for cool evenings and 'smores grilling.

About Francoise Meissner

My husband and I fell in love with New England lakes as an alternative to the crowded summer beaches where the water is SO cold. We found this sweet cottage on a quiet lake with good swimming/kayaking/fishing! We live about one hour away in Durham, NH. Since our home is on Great Bay, we decided to rent our Horn Pond cottage to share the lake house with others looking for a bucolic waterfront holiday.

Guestbook comments from the owner

We couldn't have had a more lovely time...your home is just the perfect blend of simplicity and quaint. From the singing loons to the lapping of the water, to the peepers in the night, we enjoyed all that was still. Great comfy beds! That never happens! We couldn't have enjoyed the kayaks, the dock with the pretty red chairs and the calm of your screened-in porch more. It was all simply delicious!

Would have been real plus to have cable tv.(you should probably be more clear about that on your website).

Owner's Response: I am sorry you hoped for cable TV and didn't find it at the cottage. I have since made a special note under "amenities" explaining that, although there is a TV, we do not have cable - one can only watch DVDs. Thank you for your suggestion.

Ideal Family Vacation

  • 5 of 5

What a wonderful place. It was exactly what we wanted.

Having never rented a vacation house, we did not know what to expect. The owners made it easy for us and were a pleasure to deal with. Upon our arrival, the home was spotless. What a relief. The kitchen was well equipped. Plenty of offerings for indoor activities (we had two days of rain, thank you for the chess game) and outdoor activities. The canoe, kayaks, lawn golf and badminton set were used and kept the kids busy when they were not in the lake.

The home is situated privately on the lot and the neighbors were quiet. The lake was not noisy or too busy. Just enough waves for those of us who like to float. Listening to the loons was the best.

The kids enjoyed the Ushaped dock, the swim raft and got a kick out of the bunk beds.

The screen porch was what sold us on renting this property. It's where we spent a lot of our time.

Overall, a very happy family vacation.

Horn Pond

  • 5 of 5

We were blessed with beautiful weather and hardly left the idyllic environs of Horn Pond all week. The canoes and kayaks supplied by the owners were a real bonus for exploring the lake. The fishing pier was the perfect place to enjoy a glass of wine as the sun went down. The setting was beautiful and peaceful and you couldn't wish for a more relaxing break.

Owner's Response: We are so happy you enjoyed your stay at Horn Pond. We frequently stay at the cottage ourselves so we try to make it as comfortable and as welcoming to visitors as possible. The serene setting with views over the lake and far shores make this a truly special corner of Maine.
