Relax and enjoy quiet, secluded, historic Ogden Dunes from The House At Sunset Trail, a lovely, newly renovated cottage high on a hill overlooking Lake Michigan, with a view across the lake all the way to Chicago. Ogden Dunes is a secure secluded beach village, surrounded by Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore.
The House At Sunset Trail is just an easy two block stroll to a lovely beach used primarily by the residents of the village. Walk, hike or jog the trails of the surrounding Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Within easy walking distance in the village are parks with tennis and basketball courts and children's playgrounds. Enjoy the grand lake view from the loft, the living room, the dining room or the patio. If you are lucky, you may see a herd of deer grazing in your back yard.
The Ogden Dunes Southshore Line train station is a one hour train ride to all the sights of downtown Chicago (40 miles to the Loop) or to South Bend, Indiana. Just across the highway from Ogden Dunes is the Portage public marina, and just beyond that is the brand new Bass Pro Shop in Portage. Also in Portage is a new I-Max theater, as well as a full range of stores, restaurants and golf courses.
Bike, run or walk the "rails to trails" Prairie to Duneland trail. Twenty miles east is the resort town of Michigan City where you can shop at the Lighthouse outlet mall or visit the zoo. A notebook of local attractions and restaurants is provided at the house.
From gorgeous spring through glorious colors of fall, friendly northwest Indiana has it all. (and the 4th of July fireworks are amazing!)
Get away from it all and just relax, or use our broadband Wi-Fi to stay connected.
Recommended for 4 to 6 people. Sleeping available for 8 total. This cottage would also be great for a romantic getaway for two.

The House At Sunset Trail is the best value in Ogden Dunes. See website link below for even more details, and check us out on Facebook.
We are professionals born and raised in the Los Angeles area who live most of the year in Southern California, and vacation at the lake in Indiana. People from Indiana think it's odd that we would leave one of the prime vacation areas of the world in California to spend the time in Indiana. California is great too, but we love Indiana.
We are active, love running, hiking, biking, camping, even tried hang-gliding. Have to stay in shape to keep up with our grandchildren.
We have also really enjoyed restoring and upgrading this gem of a cottage in Ogden Dunes. It has been a hobby and passion to keep as much of the character as possible, adding on in a way that enhanced the house while respecting its basic architecture and history.
The Owner purchased this house in 2006
We rented another house in Ogden Dunes for a vacation in 2005, fell in love with OD, and ended up buying our own house here. We were looking for a house with character where our grandchildren would enjoy visiting, which they do.
We love getting up in the morning, walking out of the bedroom and staring at the great views across the Lake. The wildlife is plentiful, the short walk to the beach or in the surrounding woods is so peaceful and relaxing. The beach is a lovely place to spend with the grandchildren.
Our stay was very comfortable the neighbors were friendly and the neighborhood was quiet. The house updated, neat and clean as portrayed in the photos. The southshore is conveniently located to go into Chicago or Michigan City. Plenty of things to do in the area within a convenient drive. The upstairs loft had awesome views of the lake and the Chicago skyline. The MacDougalls were wonderful to work with and we would recommend renting this property.
My husband and I enjoyed every moment of our stay in this lovely house. It is very private, short walk to the beach, wonderful views from the house, warm and cozy, the master bed was soooo comfortable....and the MacDougall's are pet friendly. The entire transaction could not have been better. I felt so welcome in their home which was the best aspect of the entire vacation. I would highly recommend this property to anyone looking to unwind in the Dunes.
Our week-long stay was comfortable for the four of us ( all adults ). The location made for easy visiting to either Chicago or points east. Walking on the beach and viewing the deer nibbling on the neighborhood foliage was perfect. Definitely recommend for anyone wanting to relax and have the comforts of home while visiting the area.
Very lovely cottage with all the comforts of home. We loved walking to the beach daily (2 short blocks), seeing the deer, and enjoying all that Indiana Dunes has to offer. The South Shore train line runs into downtown Chicago, and for about $6 a person and a 40 minute train ride, you can be at Millenium Station or the Museum Campus in the heart of Downtown Chicago. We loved going to the outlet mall and ShoreLIne Brewery & Restaurant in nearby Michigan City, and the Albanese Candy Factory (where gummy bears are made) was a must-see for the kids. The owner was kind and courteous and responded to our questions and needs in a timely fashion.
This beach cottage was an absolutely wonderful family vacation home. The location was excellent. The views of the Chicago skyline and sunsets over Lake Michigan were breathtaking. Camp MacDougall was a dream come true vacation destination for us.
