This is a beautiful, fully furnished house with large rooms. The neighborhood is on a quiet, low traffic street in Ludlow Park. It is near the Riverdale border, a short walk to the Metro N. train, 5 min. drive to BxM1 and 2 bus. 10 min. drive to Broadway IRT and Van Cortlandt Park. 30-45 min drive to all airports. If you are looking for a place where parking is not an issue and you would like room to roam, this may be the place for you. Kids can play in the back yard away from traffic, and a nice side patio is very pleasant most months of the year. The kitchen is large and a perfect gathering place, situated next to a TV room and dining room if going a little more formal is your speed. Built in the 1920's (no ghosts, promise!) the construction is so solid that the whole family or friends can co-habitate with serious privacy. The living room also offers a welcoming gathering space to have morning coffee or just chill out. It is a little imposing from the outside, but from our family to you we can say that it is a warm and comfortable atmosphere here, and such a nice retreat after a day in the city or travelling elsewhere.
Excellent restaurants, horseback riding, Neighborhood House Pool and children's programs, all NYC attractions.
Because we do not live close by, we have a nice fellow who looks after the place. He resides on the property but there is a separate entrance, assuring privacy.
We are a family of musicians who now live in Vermont much of the time. Our family lived here full time together during kids' high school and college years in the 80's and 90's. Construction such as this house has really can't be replaced, which is why we have elected to keep it and rent periodically. Every year, the house is available for most of the summer, and people take advantage of its hospitable atmosphere during Holidays and other times.
Judith Rudiakov purchased this house in 1980
The owners, my parents, always wanted a private home after years of apartment living. The proximity to good neighbors we knew and the closeness to NYC made it a great choice.
Not far from the Hudson River, this house was appealing for many reasons, but mainly because of the separation available in the interior. Someone can be watching TV in one room and not disturb someone in the next. We have spent so many happy and relaxed times here it is hard to count.
Very big and comfortable house. It was a great stay. Near to all. Recommend it highly.
We loved everything about this roomy, light, airy, elegant, and accommodating home in a quiet pocket of Yonkers. Will return whenever we can; it left a lasting impression of graciousness, and beauty. We ate once at the Dolphin, a high-end but cosy & family-friendly waterfront eatery only seven minutes away by car but generally wanted to stay as much as possible at the house to savor its timeless elegance. Caretaker Billy P. was lovely, too--helpful & unobtrusive. A thoroughly enjoyable & memorable graduation trip all the way around, so thank you to our hosts for making this Gatsby-esque gem available to us!
The house was charming. It was in a quiet residential neighborhood with plenty of parking.
It is very close to many restaurants and shops.
The home was nicer than the description. It was equipped with a huge amount of dishes glasses, cups, pans pots, etc.etc.
There were lots of extra blankets, towels, etc.
The furniture was beautiful, functional, and comfortable. The house had early 20th century charm and was very comfortable.
The house is very old, the hot water heater is marginal at best (2-3 showers' worth of hot water per day), and the WiFi didn't work. Also, the "caretaker" of the house lives in the basement! That wasn't something we knew in advance, and was rather annoying that we paid nearly $1,500 only to not have the privacy we wanted. The owner talked very little with me, and soon directed me to the "caretaker" to handle any questions I had. The caretaker never once replied to any of my texts, but would occasionally call back and we'd have a "conversation" that I could barely understand. To top it off, the caretaker got mad and threatened to call the cops because we were being too loud and he was trying to sleep. I get it, you want to sleep, but I didn't pay 1.5 grand to take orders from a stranger while on vacation. I've rented several vacation houses before, and I've never faced any of the problems I faced here. If you're going exploring every day, and only use the house to sleep in each night, then this house may be a good option for you.
Great place for celebrating Christmas with a large family! As I am from Eastern Long Island and have many siblings in the tri-state area, this was a great meeting place. We were able to celebrate Christmas eve with the extended family without feeling crowded. Many of us cooked in the kitchen and had plenty of space to move about the room. There were many quaint rooms on the ground floor for gathering for conversation or singing Christmas carols in the large living room. Needless to say, the three and a half baths came in handy for the three couples that spent the night.
we had a lovely visit and were able to have a real family thanksgiving dinner altogether!!!
it was fantastic to have our family from brooklyn and the bronx join us.
