  • 2 of 5

Magnifique ferme

  • 4 of 5

Loreto Aprutino is one of Abruzzo’s most popular towns. Famous for its olive oil production, it is ideally situated between the mountains and the Adriatic sea. Loreto Aprutino is a bustling town, with many restaurants and shops in and around the historic centre. For a special treat, dine at the ‘Castello Chiola’, a magnificently restored castle, which dates back to the 13th century. In the summer months, there are many festas and sagras (food festivals) in and around the town, where you can taste and enjoy the local specialities, with a glass of the local wine, Montepulciano (red) or Trebbiano (white) d’Abruzzo. Close to Loreto, there are also many other interesting and historic towns, such as Penne, Citta Sant’Angelo and Atri.

Within around half an hour of Casa San Giovanni, you can reach both the beach and the mountains. There are many beautiful beach resorts in Abruzzo, offering both wide sandy beaches in the north, and private, secluded coves in the south. If you prefer the mountains, there are 2 ranges to choose from – the Gran Sasso and Maiella ranges. Here you will find a wide array of wildlife, beautiful and rugged countryside and winter and summer sports.

Being in the heart of Italy, Abruzzo is in the perfect place, to allow you to reach many other areas of Italy, such as Rome, which is only a 2.5 hour drive. There is a regular bus service from Pescara to Rome, which costs as little 5 euros if you book in advance.

Abruzzo is a very diverse region, with a lot to offer – spectacular countryside, sandy beaches, majestic mountains, amazing local food and wine, extremely friendly local people, beautiful art and architecture – and yet is still largely undiscovered, so has retained its identity and culture, making it a truly Italian experience.
