“A very pleasant and comfortable village house with a great view of the mountains. Casoli is a medieval car-free mountain village north of Lucca, a great place for people who enjoy peace and quiet and nature. Via a winding road you end up in this wonderful spot with a breathtaking view for many kilometres! The area offers plenty of options for people who enjoy walking and mountain biking at any level, and even horse riding excursions in the Val di Lima.
The comfortably furnished detached house has a lovely bathroom and kitchen with all mod cons, where the 18th century elements were preserved as much as possible. The cellar was built against a rock, which can be seen from inside. All this makes it extra exciting and exotic. The house is very cosy, looks like a chalet from the inside and offers the climate, culture, cuisine, the friendly inhabitants and charm of Italy.
The house has two terraces and a garden where you can sit and enjoy the wonderful view. The air is always fresh, the weather is of course great during the summer but it never gets too hot here. The only sounds are the twittering birds or the conversations of local residents.”

It was hard to really know what to expect when choosing a medieval village in Tuscany for a week of relaxation. Getting there was quite a 1.5 hour twisty drive from Florence. If you don't like hour long rollercoaster rides you may want to drive to Lucca and then head NE on 12 rather than heading up from Pistoia. After turning off 12, there is still another 5 min or so of single lane mountain road that unfortunately is a two way path to Casoli.
After the initial shock of how medieval the whole place still is, it becomes very cool. The cottage is well equipped, and as others have said Cristina, her father Marco, and especially their friend Angela are truly fantastic hosts. We were 30 min late, yet they met us with smiles and made reservations at the restaurant for us since our Italian is very, very poor.
The cottage is great. We went to the supermarket in Bagni di Lucca (20 min drive) and cooked many of our meals there. The restaurant was also very good, and friendly folks - We ate too much there the first night but went for dessert a couple of nights too. I missed having internet, but there is a nice cafe in Bagni (Bar Roma) where our can get a cafe, a sweet, and free fast Wi-Fi.
If you understand what you are getting into, you will be very pleased. It is remote, ancient, real, and a little rough around the edges and at the same time has all the conveniences you need to have a great holiday. We enjoyed it greatly.
My wife and I traveled from Chicago to stay here for a week in May, 2014. We had an incredible time. Cristina and her family were fantastic hosts. From the time we booked our reservation, Cristina was very responsive on email to make sure that she answered any/all of our questions in a timely manner. Upon our arrival to Casoli, Cristina's father picked my wife and I up in his trusty golf cart and we received "first class service" from everyone! The house is very beautiful inside, and the views are equally incredible outside. It was the perfect, quiet place to relax for a week. The people in the town were very nice and hospitable. We rented a car and found the location convenient for getting around and taking day trips to explore and sightsee. We give this listing FIVE STARS, and highly recommend it to anyone who wants to stay in this beautiful and unique part of Italy! Thanks Cristina and family...!
Cultuur, sport, rust alles is mogelijk.
