This awesome 120 year old cabin was featured on the season premiere of DIY "Barnwood Builders" on April 24, 2016 and has been completely remodeled inside and out! About Shonna Harper
We are native Montanans that love the outdoors, exploring, learning about the mining history in our area and ESPECIALLY LOVE SAPPHIRE MINING at the Gem Mountain mine! Once you find a big one you will be hooked for life!
Shonna Harper purchased this Cabin in 2016
Why Shonna Harper chose Philipsburg
With abundant year round outdoor activities so close to Philipsburg and all the mining history throughout the area it was important to have a place where family and friends could come and experience all of the amazing activities close by such as skiing at Discovery, blue ribbon fly fishing on Rock Creek, boating or ice fishing at Georgetown Lake, sapphire mining at the Gem Mountain mine, ice skating and hockey at Winninghoff Park, cross country skiing, Discovery summer bicycle trails, visiting the many nearby ghost towns, ample hunting and fishing, golfing at the 3 courses in Anaconda, snowmobiling, taking a back country ATV or jeep ride, sampling fudge at the candy store, eating BBQ, watching a play at the Opera House, visiting the museums or sipping a micro-brew at the local brewery.
What makes this Cabin unique
This miners cabin was originally located at the nearby silver mine and after the owner's husband passed away, she had it moved to the town of Philipsburg. The logs were cut and shaped by a true craftsman and are in excellent condition. We have been building log homes for 20 years and knew we had to bring this old beauty back to life so family and guests could enjoy it for many years to come!

Beautiful restored cabin
This cabin is right by downtown which is great if you want to go to restaurants or the brewery. It is within 20 minutes of Georgetown lake for all the recreation you could ask for. It has all the amenities of a modern house but looks like a rustic old miner's cabin which hits on Philipsburg's rich history. Shonna was also very helpful about rescheduling when I came across work troubles.
A cabin in appearance but luxury condenced
A fabulously restored honest to goodness miners cabin but no miner had these luxuries and comforts. The building is absolutely tight with a modern forced air heating system, kitchen and bathroom. A great accommodation for a father and son snow mobile trip to Pburg but great potential for a get away with your bride or lover in a beautiful winter wonderland. Small, condenced and beautifully furnished. Great job in preserving the aesthetics of the original building and providing a warm and comfortable modern retreat. Top of my list for the next get away with the childrens Mother.
Everything you need
This little cabin is not only super quaint and cute but the owners have thought of every little detail. The place was very clean and inviting. After spending the day skiing at Discovery, it was the perfect place to come back to to relax, warm up and drink some beer from the local brewery. The kitchen was fully stocked with any equipment/utensils we needed. And the fridge even had a few essentials just in case. The beds were very comfy as well. Will probably stay here again for another skiing trip next year!
Fabulous property, great and fun location, super accommodating property owner! Just stayed there 5 days. In a nutshell, the best!
Great, clean cabin on the edge of town!
Great distance from downtown, little loud with cars on the main road in, other than that it was perfect for exploring the town and surrounding area!
Perfect size and location.
This cabin was walking distance to everything we wanted to see and do in Philipsburg. The grandkids could even walk over for a visit. It still felt private though with the corner lot and the fire pit space in the back yard. We loved having our coffee on the porch in the morning. Don’t let the size fool you. It has everything you need, even a washer and dryer! The grandkids spent the night and there was plenty of room and they loved the loft and discovering the games there. The remodel design was one of the best I’ve seen. The kitchen had everything we needed too. I would highly recommend this rental and plan to stay their on my return.
Across from the cabin is Friday Night Pizza and a 5 minute walk to downtown there are several restaurants and bars. Further down main is Huffman Grocery and the Sunshine Station (restaurant/bar/gas station). Downtown also has several unique clothing, art, and jewelry shops as well as a creamery, toy store, and candy store. There are 3 places in town where you can mine for sapphires or you can take a day trip to the Gem Mountain Mine which is 22 miles from the cabin. There are several ghost towns as well as the old mine nearby.
