Boone Cabin Rental Photos and Description

Cool Creekside Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath

Troutsong cabin sits just above Howard's Creek and is nestled in a park-like environment, secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to a supermarket, theaters and restaurants in Boone. You can spend days exploring and playing in the creek, which makes a bend right above the porch where you can sit in the big yellow swing and cast your cares away. Fly fish? You found paradise. This is a place so sweet that even the trout seem to be singing its praises!

Raise the bedroom windows and you will fall asleep to the melody of Howard's Creek. We left this two-bedroom cabin furnished as it was when we lived here in hopes that it will feel like home to you: there's even a piano. The fully stocked kitchen also overlooks the creek. The kitchen, dining area, living room are open which makes downstairs one large open area with sliding glass doors on the creekside porch. When it's cool or cold, there's a great woodstove but the house can be fully heated by the Monitor heater. The master bedroom has a king bed; the second bedroom has twin beds and a loft bed with desk/play area below. Formerly our daughter's room, we have left some dolls and toys if you have young ones. We use flannel sheets in the cooler months, cotton in the summer. We have no air-conditioning because none is needed! There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms just in case but most summers the temperature at this creekside cabin never gets above 72 degrees.

We also welcome your dog here at Troutsong but we do charge a small fee. Having traveled with our two standard poodles we appreciate homeowners who rent to clients who like to vacation with their dog. Thanks for looking at our house.

About Beth McLeod

Jon and I are former journalists who took a career change and moved back to where my heart has always been, here in the mountains of North Carolina.

Beth McLeod purchased this cabin in 1998

Why Beth McLeod chose High Country & Blue Ridge Mountains

We bought this cabin on 3 acres for ourselves! But when we moved full-time in 2002 we realized it was too small, so we built a 'round house' on the ridge behind the house and turned our former home into Troutsong. We believed that this was a special place and wanted to share it with others. The High Country of North Carolina is a wonderful place to live in all four seasons.

What makes this cabin unique

We love listening to the creek and sitting on the porch swing. Our daughter and our standard poodles love to play in the creek. Many nights we sat on the bench down by the creek, watched them play and enjoyed 'the gloaming,' as evening settled into our tranquil haven. I will never forget the way the former owner cried when we signed the papers to finalize the deal to buy this property in 1998. It is a place you just hate to leave!

Guestbook comments from the owner

Your cabin is warm, eclectic and unique. A perfect moutnain getaway with

everything you could need or want! Our children loved it as much as we did and

are already asking when we can come back! They all took turns on the piano and

raced to the swing every day.

Time Stands Still At Troutsong

  • 5 of 5

We needed a respite. We live in a fast-paced world and our internal clocksprings were about to be sprung. We went to Troutsong looking for time to stop and it did! From the moment we walked in and were greeted by the subtle smell of cozy night gone by, we knew it was going to be a special time. Everything we needed was right there and if it weren't for our 5-year old daughter we may not have even left the house. Between the porch swing, the fire pit, the view of the creek, and the breeze across the back porch, it was a small slice of heaven. It was JUST what we needed!

Wonderful cabin!

  • 5 of 5

First time back in 3 years. Spent many weeks at Troutsong 2010 to 2013. Always nice to see that place does not change. Beautiful, quiet park like setting, yet close to Boone for shopping, etc. Owners could not be any nicer! Will be back to going at least a few weeks every summer again!

My husband and I are an "older" couple who have moved north but hungered to spend some time in our old stomping grounds, the southern mountains. We couldn't have asked for a better place to be. Having some mobility challenges, we couldn't make as much use as other visitors of the wonderful amenities right on the property: hiking in the stream, real fishing and so forth. But we were so very pleased with everything the cabin itself had to offer -- all the comforts of home -- as well as Boone and the surrounding countryside. We spent a lot of time enjoying the early spring beauty of the mountains, just relaxing in the cabin listening to the wonderful rush of the trout stream, poking around Boone and the various eateries, and heading to Grandfather Mountain while on the 50-mile loop of countryside that begins in Boone. I think we made use of almost every single thing the cottage had to offer adults, including the piano! I spent some time photographing the early spring wildflowers tucked away in nooks and crannies right around the cabin. Great place and great owners.

Trout song a fantastic find!

  • 5 of 5

Our family had a wonderful vacation at Troutsong! The house is cozy, extremely clean and perfectly situated for privacy and relaxation in the park-like setting or for checking out the town a short 10 minute drive away. So many fun activities are close by- we went skiing, hiking, shopping, zip lining- and even played football in the University's stadium!

At the house, our two kids and our dog had a great time running through the hills, climbing rocks in the stream and playing ball in the big front lawn.

After spending long , active days outside in the cold, we really appreciated the wood burning stove, puzzles, games and the cozy flannel sheets! The owners gave great info before our arrival, and were quick to answer our questions- we're greatful they rent such a special place.

We'd definitely recommend Troutsong to friends visiting Boone!

Beautiful, quiet and restful

  • 5 of 5

The home had a comfortable relaxed feel. It was like I returned to my childhood home. I expected to see my Mom cooking the the kitchen. My husband and I brought our dog and she loved the space outside, the creek. It was far enough away from town that you felt like you had your own privite oasis but close enough to get to town quickly. We visited Boone, Linville Falls, Beach Mountian West Jefferson, which had an Antique show. But have the stream and the swing they were the best! We hope to come back soon. Troutsong is beyond description!

  • 5 of 5

We absolutely love Troutsong! It is in the most perfect location! The musical waters are just outside the front windows. It sings you into relaxation. The cabin is all it's said to be & more. The owners are so nice. They answer any questions you might have ASAP. There are many wonderful places to visit in the area, including The Blowing Rock & Grandfather Mtn. We recommend Woodlands BBQ as well. In all our yrs vacationing in the Mtns, Troutsong was the 1st place we have stayed where we were perfectly content to actually spend time at our cabin. Leave all your cares behind when you come to Troutsong. I promise you will want to come back to this amazing place, I know we do!
