Cool Creekside Cabin, 2 Bedrooms, 1 Bath
Troutsong cabin sits just above Howard's Creek and is nestled in a park-like environment, secluded and private, yet only 10 minutes to a supermarket, theaters and restaurants in Boone. You can spend days exploring and playing in the creek, which makes a bend right above the porch where you can sit in the big yellow swing and cast your cares away. Fly fish? You found paradise. This is a place so sweet that even the trout seem to be singing its praises!
Raise the bedroom windows and you will fall asleep to the melody of Howard's Creek. We left this two-bedroom cabin furnished as it was when we lived here in hopes that it will feel like home to you: there's even a piano. The fully stocked kitchen also overlooks the creek. The kitchen, dining area, living room are open which makes downstairs one large open area with sliding glass doors on the creekside porch. When it's cool or cold, there's a great woodstove but the house can be fully heated by the Monitor heater. The master bedroom has a king bed; the second bedroom has twin beds and a loft bed with desk/play area below. Formerly our daughter's room, we have left some dolls and toys if you have young ones. We use flannel sheets in the cooler months, cotton in the summer. We have no air-conditioning because none is needed! There are ceiling fans in the bedrooms just in case but most summers the temperature at this creekside cabin never gets above 72 degrees.
We also welcome your dog here at Troutsong but we do charge a small fee. Having traveled with our two standard poodles we appreciate homeowners who rent to clients who like to vacation with their dog. Thanks for looking at our house.

About Beth McLeod
Jon and I are former journalists who took a career change and moved back to where my heart has always been, here in the mountains of North Carolina.
Beth McLeod purchased this Cabin in 1998
Why Beth McLeod chose Bald Mountain
We bought this cabin on 3 acres for ourselves! But when we moved full-time in 2002 we realized it was too small, so we built a 'round house' on the ridge behind the house and turned our former home into Troutsong. We believed that this was a special place and wanted to share it with others. The High Country of North Carolina is a wonderful place to live in all four seasons.
What makes this Cabin unique
We love listening to the creek and sitting on the porch swing. Our daughter and our standard poodles love to play in the creek. Many nights we sat on the bench down by the creek, watched them play and enjoyed 'the gloaming,' as evening settled into our tranquil haven. I will never forget the way the former owner cried when we signed the papers to finalize the deal to buy this property in 1998. It is a place you just hate to leave!

A wonderful and relaxing vacation at our new favorite place to stay in the beautiful NC mountains.
We had a wonderful time at Troutsong! Beth and Jon were wonderful host and made sure the cabin was supplied with everything we needed. Although we never met them, I felt we knew Beth and Jon personally by the time the trip was over. They supplied very thorough information and assured us they were available if we had any problems. My husband and I were looking for a special place to spend some time with our son, who was home from college on spring break. We definitely found that place at Troutsong. Our son, an avid fisherman, loved fly fishing at the cabin. We all enjoyed roasting hot dogs and s’mores by the wood stove. We even made snow cream since we were blessed by a beautiful first day of Spring snowfall while there. It was also nice to be able to bring our dog, who quickly claimed his spot by the wood stove shortly after we arrived. The best way I found to describe our overall experience at Troutsong is that walking into this cozy cabin is like receiving a warm hug from a close friend. We miss it already and certainly hope to return soon.
We love providing our guests with a homey place in all four seasons of beauty here in our mountains. And we love happy guests! Thanks for appreciating what we do. You are welcome back anytime!
Great getaway for us and our dog!
We had a wonderful stay at Troutsong. My husband did quite a bit of fishing in the creek on the property. The house is stocked and cozy. Being able to bring our dog was a plus! Jon and Beth were reachable by phone/email and responsive to our questions.
We love providing a cozy and unique place for folks visiting our wonderful part of the world. Being close to town yet so secluded is one big thing that drew us to this property nearly 20 years ago. Glad you enjoyed your stay!
Peaceful and relaxing. Loved it and looking forward to another stay
Troutsong is awesome!!!
The cabin was so cozy, we felt right at home as soon as we walked in. The sound of the rushing water in the creek was so relaxing, and we enjoyed long, peaceful walks with our dog. Loved every minute of our getaway, and we'll definitely be coming back.
Clean, comfortable and peaceful - we loved it!
We loved the cottage and sitting on the porch swing listening to the stream. It was comfortable with everything we needed. We enjoyed coming back to our home away from home after an active day. We especially appreciated that it is a pet friendly place. We enjoyed hiking around the Blue Ridge and our trip to Grandfather Mountain. To top it off, the weather was beautiful all week.
Very disappointed checked out early!
Overwhelming moldy, musty odor permeates the dirty carpeting, the furniture and drapes! Owner has large dehumidifier and a fan in living room to attempt to combat the stench! Had to open several windows to breathe.
Treacherous entrance of stacked up rocks used as stairs, no railing.
No cell phone service and low water pressure.
No disclosures from owner on these problems.
