This home has been in my family since 1885. This house has been passed down thru the generations. I have many fond memories of time spent in this home and in the town of Winter Harbor.
Large yard & field to play games & enjoy the outside, with ocean views from the house and master bedroom. You can walk to everything in the town of Winter Harbor. Acadia National Park-Schoodic close by.
We really enjoyed our stay in this home. It is centrally located to the town Winter Harbor. It is a short walk to the grocery store, 5 &10, post office, ice cream shop, harbor and ferry. There are two restaurants almost next door. There is a seafood vendor a half mile from the house, along with a smoked seafood vendor as well. We cooked all of our meals in the well equipped kitchen and enjoyed the sea breeze that came through the windows of the house. We spent a few afternoons at Grindstone Neck watching the waves in the harbor. We spent a day biking Schoodic Point (part of Acadia National Park) and a day over in Bar Harbor by taking the short ferry ride between Winter Harbor and Bar Harbor. There is public transportation once you are in Bar Harbor to further explore Acadia National Park if you choose. My husband and I have been to this area many times and always find plenty to do in the area. If you enjoy wines, make sure to stop at Bartlett for a sampling of fruit wines from bone dry to very sweet.
I believe that the many previous reviewers have accurately described the home. Our stay was problem free, and the house is very clean. The owners ensured that we got settled in without any problems and from there is was an easy going stay. Every day was a new and enjoyable adventure.
We had a wonderful stay at Sharon and George's home. The house had everything to make your stay so enjoyable. We loved the bikes and riding around the town, there's travel books and games for he kids. The house was so charming. Loved the ocean breeze coming thru the windows and sitting outside in the chairs having our morning coffee or in the evening a glass of wine facing the cove. Winter Harbor is lovely and the locals are so friendly. Spent time at Schoodic Pt., kayaking on Fenchman Bay, hiking in Acadia Park relaxing on Sands beach and taking in the sights of Bar Harbor. The coastline is absolutely gorgeous in that part of Maine. Got our full of seafood and loved the fact we could make lobster dinner at the house. Thank you both for such a wonderful stay.
We so enjoyed our stay! The house is within walking distance of several restaurants and small stores. The portion of Acadia in the Schoodic Penninsula was so quiet and uncrowded. Much different experience than the area near/around Bar Harbor. It is a solid 45 minute drive to the main part of Acadia. It is a bit of journey, but well worth it to avoid the congestion of Bar Harbor. The house is very clean and well appointed. All reported that their beds were super comfortable, as was mine! We sooo enjoyed our stay in both this home and this lovely part of Maine.
What a wonderfully maintained home! The hosts provided everything anyone could need to feel at home, and check to make sure that their guests do feel at home. They went above and beyond to make us comfortable. We are all serious coffee drinkers and Sharon and George went out of their way to make sure we had a new coffee pot that would serve a group, rather than a Keurig. They will answer any questions you have about the home, or the area. The home is beautiful and comfortable, with games, movies, TVs, a perfect table for playing board games, bicycles, renovated kitchen and cozy living room. Stairs to bed rooms are steep, but lit well. The bed was so comfortable that I slept better there than I ever do at home. In fact we all felt so at home there that we were very sad to leave. Also, Garrish's a couple blocks away was a delightful place for breakfast and lunch and the folks there treat travelers as friends. Other restaurants are walking distance and a farmer's market is across the street on Tuesday. Thanks George and Sharon for treating your guest so kindly!
Winter Harbor is a wonderful location to book for a week, and then take day trips from the rental home in any direction. You can walk downtown, to the ocean, and wander through many art galleries. The gallery owners are friendly, knowledgeable and enjoy brilliant gardens. This rental home is a renovated 1800's home, with every ammenity, including lobster pot! We visited the Winter Lobster Coop & bought our own live lobster to cook our dinner. We went the first two weeks of October, and many businesses' were closed for winter, but we didn't care. We were there for the fresh lobster, ocean, beaches, and magnificient fall colors. The home was clean, with many travel books and even directions for how to cook lobster! The only concern one might run into is the steep stairs to the second floor. If you do not manage stairs easily, you might want to sleep on living room hide-a-bed, which is comfortable. Enjoy! You won't regret it!
