We had a great time! Early August turned out to be a great time to stay at Trout lake. The water as warm for swimming, the fishing was good, and there were very few bugs.
The cabin was very comfortable and well stocked with all the pans and dishes we needed for meals. The pontoon boat, kayaks, paddle board and hot tub were all put to good use. All in all, a great trip.
We had a nice get away The neighbors D.J. and Kim were so great with our kids , They let them play on their sandy beach and play with their little dog( which made this a great time for your granddaughter with special needs). And my husband enjoyed his visits with D.J. It was really nice to have all the different things to use in the lake Very peaceful
A true gettaway on Trout Lake. The description does not lie, this is a fantastic cottage on a pristine clear water lake. Very clean, well kept, with everything you need to have a fantastic vacation. The owners are very in tune with what makes a vacation a vacation. John was even available to let us in on good fishing spots and techniques. Thank you for a fantastic experience. We'll see you next year, we may stay for a month!

This house was in excellent clean condition when we arrived. The description was very accurate. The lake was amazing! It was so nice to have the use of a pontoon boat and kayaks. We never used the hot tub but it did look inviting! The lake was quiet this time of year and very relaxing!
The only reason for 4 stars and something we would suggest if your planning to come to the house is that you use a vehicle with higher clearance. The road to the house was very rutted and washed out. We were glad to have our truck with us and even then we didn't enjoy driving it. Glad it was a relatively short drive to the home. It wouldn't deter us from renting the home again!
There wasn't much in town except a small convenience store and a bar. The drive to a much larger town was about 25 minutes.
Lots of hiking trails and state parks in the area.
We would recommend it to friends!
We arrived slightly concerned by the appearance of the exterior ... tired and sad. We were completely reassured by the interior of the cottage. Nice decor, good furnishings, comfortable beds etc. The kitchen supplies were OK, all dishes, pot and pans really old, did not realize we needed to pack tea towels, dish cloths etc (never in other rentals have I had to do this) ... so we were caught off guard. The hot tub was nice to have but the water never did clear up. The fire pit is terrific, nicely located on the property over looking the lake. The outdoor furniture is really lacking, old, and sparce. We brought our own extra chairs thank goodness. The boat was a real bonus and loved having that amenity. The shoreline and dock were disappointing, once again a small and rickety looking dock. The price point on this rental is high, so expectations going in were high and not met at
all. The owners are absolutely terrific with reachability and gas/wood supplies (generous). We were noisy our first night and were told so (very kind approach which was appreciated). Cottages are really close to one another, so we found other people were noisy as well, tough to avoid when everyone is so side by side. Overall the place was clean, windows needed more attention, dead flies & cob webs etc when they were opened up. The lake is really clean, great swimming, warm water etc. Kayaks in good shape. Did we enjoy ourself, yes .... Note: East facing, so the sun is over the trees and gone by 2:00pm, you have to be out on the water to enjoy more sun.
Really enjoyed our week at the lake and took full advantage the amenities. Pontoon boat, kayaks and hot tub were lots of fun. We explored the area and found some nice fishing steams as well as picturesque water falls. A quick one hour drive and you are in the thousand island where we spent the day enjoying a tour of heart island and some shopping. My only recommendation is if you plan on using the pull out sofa you will need to bring an air matress as it was not comfortable. Also bring along your own drinking water as the water pulls from the lake.
