Francesco grew up in Sicily, studied at the Nautical Institute in Catania where he bacame a Captain for any tonnage vessel in any waters in the world. Suzanne grew up in Squantum, MA (named for Squanto the native American Indian who lived in the area), a seaside suburb south of Boston. She graduated from Boston College with a BS in Nursing. The two met while they were working on Cruise Ships in the Caribbean, arriving on the same day. Three years later they married, but stayed on the Ships two years more. They have two grown children, a girl, Marguerite, and a boy, Alessandro. Their primary home is in Boston, but they winter on the West coast of Puerto Rico in the Rincon area. Many summer weeks are spent in their beloved home on the coast of Maine... through the woods from the Guesthouse. Travel is a passion and they travel home to Italy at least once a year. Twice a year they do Medical Missions in the Dominican Republic. They remain very much in love after almost 35 years of marriage.
You won't find a nicer house or a more perfect spot for a vacation than the Gueshouse. We have never had a disappointed guest, and many, many repeat travelers. We would love to share our idyllic spot in midcoast Maine with you!
Suzanne's grandfather, Joe Will, was an avid sailor, as was her mother, Louise Will. Her grandmother, Gertrude and her Uncle James completed the ocean loving family. They often vacationed in Friendship, Maine where they had wonderful friends. Joe would buy older Friendship Sloops, sail them home, restore them and build a cabin aft and sell them in the Boston area. The Friendship area is stunning, and has a nostalgic attraction for both Suzanne and Francesco. We would love to have you visit.
You will be 'hooked', too!
Whether you take one of the 4 kayaks, or the rowboat out for a tour, you will fall in love with this part of the coast. The Guesthouse is lovely with every comfort thought of and the peace and tranquility that one needs on vacation. You will relax and unwind and return renewed. So much to see and do and eat and experience at your fingertips, but sometimes the best and only thing you want to do is sit on the deck and revel in the peacefulness. You decide, you have found it all at the Guesthouse.
Our family of four had a wonderful, peaceful, and an everyday nature-intriguing stay at this home by the waters edge. We feel lucky to have found this home and remember it fondly, now three months after our departure. Most memorable to us, was watchimg the tide changes each day, the lobstermen checking traps, playing cards at night with the music in the home set low, and the ocean breezes flowing in!
Thanks for sharing your home!
The guesthouse was absolutely perfect. Spacious, well equipped and the location is exquisite. We took the rowboat out several times and watched seals watching us. For an October weekend the weather was perfect and Suzanne, the owner, was extremely approachable and helpful even though she was out of the country during our stay. We hope to be back next year. At first I thought maybe the summer but this long fall weekend is hart to beat. Thanks. Suzanne.
This place is absolutely beautiful. My wife and I had not had a vacation in over a year and a half and had never been to Maine before. For all the readers of this review, the pictures 100% represent this gorgeous home and location. Sometimes you see a listing and the photos make the place look a certain way and then you get there and its not what you thought,..well this place was decorated lovely, very private, safe, and CLEAN!! The pier is very long and is amazing to sit and watch the sea life. During our stay a family of sea otters, 5 of them would come chirping along climb out on the island across from pier and roll, chase and play, it was so much fun to watch. We also saw the sea lions and heard them as the sun set each day, was so neat. We also saw all kinds of crabs and yes lobsters at low tide moving out from under the pier. There was also an Osprey pulling fish. Location, Location, location,..was great, only 15 minutes up the road was Rockland, great seafood places. Rockport was only 20 minutes North and highly recommend the schooner sail boat ride on the Heron. Upscale perfectly describes the owners home, you will love the decor and the kitchen had everything you needed. We enjoyed in the early evening have the balcony sliding glass door open, the wonderful sea salt air blowing gently in while eating dinner was so relaxing. Then to sit out on the deck for morning fresh fruit breakfast,..just delightful. Had some hard pulls fishing but missed the catch, saw nice size strippers going by, for best chance use a silver/blue 1oz spoon tipped on the hook with some raw mackerel flesh, and dont let it settle to the bottom or those crabs will take it all. We would recommend this place highly as it truly is exactly as shown in photos, was clean, modern, with nearby activities, and great for adults with or without children. The owners of this place were so friendly, made it a joy to stay at this slice of heaven. We cant thank you enough for making our first trip to Maine,..one we will never forget!!!
This Guest House was perfect! So well equipped, spotless, better than the site pictures. Absolutely spectacular views with calming waters to make you relax on vacation. Owners were so welcoming and thoughtful. I highly recommend this place. (Ssshhhh) Kayaking is A Must!!! Check out the seals and otters. Til next Summer!!!
Real estate agents always chant "location, location, location"------ if you look that phrase up on Wikipedia, I'm quite certain you'll see a picture of THIS HOUSE!!! What a special place..... and even better--- special owners!! The house is situated right on a bay that is full of lobster bouys to kayak amongst... so picturesque! The bay is calm and perfect for ocean adventures without rough waters. The little town of Waldoboro (unbeknownst to us) is in really close proximity to Damarscotta, Camden, Rockland, Wiscasset & Brunswick---- all full of quaint little coffee houses, seaside restaurants & art galleries........ but just far enough away to feel like a true hideaway. The home itself was stocked with EVERYTHING we needed----not a "bare bones" setup!...... so often when we rent houses we spend half our time looking for small items like saran wrap to put away leftovers, or air freshener or something......... and spend a small fortune for convenience item,s we end up using once or twice---- but would be frustrating to do without. Suzanne & Francesco have thought about this and the kitchen is well stocked for actual cooking & serving------ (not just a single skillet & lobster pot as we sometimes find) They were so hospitable & gracious but not the least bit obtrusive--- Thanks for a wonderful stay
Against my better judgement, I am writing a review. I mean really, why would I want the whole world to know what a great place this is. What if they're all booked up next time we want to come?
We are a family of four, and each member wants to come back. Enough said?
I really cannot say enough wonderful things about the home, and our wonderful hosts. We were fortunate that they were in the area, and they graciously submitted to our multitude of questions. Suzanne also was always quick to respond to any email queries.
Our fishing luck was not too stellar, but boy, did we find some great lobster deals. I mean, really, lobster that's cheaper than a Whopper, how great is that?
We were able to find tons of fresh mussels right at the dock, but never got a clear reading from the Maine Fisheries if they were safe to eat. No worries, tons of places to go in the local area for fresh seafood.
OK, I'm a dude, but even I was floored at how wonderfully decorated the house was. Everything we needed was there.
OK so, can you please keep this a secret?
Mid-coast Maine is full of exciting things to do. We are in a wonderfully interesting bay with multiple islands & miles & miles of rugged coastline. Take the rowboat over to Haystack Is. and let the kids hunt for real arrowheads (I've found two!) or explore the immediate coast in the kayaks and stop for lunch on Eagle Is. where you will be carefully watched by a nesting pair. Aside from the obvious boating, swimming, bird watching & fishing that you can do right out in front of the guest house, there are puffin & seal watches, deep sea fishing & sailing charters all available close by. Take a day trip (or longer) to the artist colony of Monhegan Island where the Wyeth family has painted for generations or see the famed Olsen house in neighboring Cushing.
Don't forget the fabulous and famous lobster and steamer dinners available in wonderful restaurants all throughout the area.
Other Activities: kayaking, hiking, exploring, museums, fine and/or rustic dining, Fall foliage, apple picking, hayrides
