MidCoast and Penobscot Bay House Rental Photos and Description

Oceanfront Guesthouse with private pier, boats, antiques, Orientals. 3BR/2BA

Immaculate, year-round 3 bedroom, 2 bath oceanfront home on 7 1/2 acres with private pier overlooking Muscongus Bay & islands. Antiques, Orientals, cathedral ceilings, gleaming wide pine floors & skylights, along with top of the line mattresses & appliances including single jacuzzi tub provide a very comfortable setting for an unforgettable vacation. Wake to the nostalgic scent of fresh salt air & the plaintiff call of seagulls. Watch the occasional local fisherman check his pots for lobster from the elevated sun deck, spot the family of seals on Haystack Island or see the resident Ospreys nesting with the guest house binoculars. Use the two sit on top kayaks, two sit in kayaks, tandem kayak, (a total of 5 !) or take the rowboat provided to explore the endless coves and islands. Take advantage of our large take one/leave one library to read on the deck which is complete with patio furniture, gas grille and magnificent views. Later enjoy a cocktail on your private pier as the ducks and seals swim & the tides change below.

And that's just the beginning... you haven't even left the property!

The downstairs living room has beautiful & comfortable seating, a large picture window & the TV/VCR/DVD. Off this is the double bedroom with private bath. Upstairs the great room has a mix of antique & new furnishings where you can enjoy the cd stereo & the panoramic view of boats, islands and spruce trees thru huge French doors that lead out to the 2nd floor deck. The kitchen is large, bright & well equipped. The master bedroom has a stately queen antique four-poster bed & the main bath has the jacuzzi tub, separate shower & skylights. Upstairs the protected loft holds two comfortable twin beds. It is a truly beautiful & restorative vacation home. Although there are beds for more people, we are limiting the number of Guests to a very strict 4 people. This way you can choose which of the bedrooms would best suit you, and will assure you of many years of a wonderful vacation in a well appointed and carefully kept home

The nearby Farnsworth Museum is famous for its collection by American artists, & the Transportation Museum has the first Ford Mustang ever built!

We are only 30 minutes from Camden and Rockland to the North and 30 minutes south will bring you to Damariscotta, Pemaquid and the Boothbay region. Fine dining, world class golf, museums, festivals, concerts, the opera house, schooner trips, hiking, biking, & fabulous antiquing are all only a decision away. Waldoboro itself has an active summer playhouse/theatre and the local pier in Friendship is only minutes away where you can buy succulent lobster fresh off the boat. Or on vacation, why not treat yourself to an organized clambake on the beach where all the work & cleanup is done for you! We have compiled an extensive list of activities and ideas, complete with phone numbers, etc. that is available at the guest house. Included in your rental is the use of 5 separate kayaks, (2 sit-on-top, 1 tandem, 2 regular) and a 14 ft. aluminum boat

About Suzanne Thompson

Francesco grew up in Sicily, studied at the Nautical Institute in Catania where he bacame a Captain for any tonnage vessel in any waters in the world. Suzanne grew up in Squantum, MA (named for Squanto the native American Indian who lived in the area), a seaside suburb south of Boston. She gaduated from Boston College with a BS in Nursing. The two met while they were working on Cruise Ships in the Caribbean, arriving on the same day. Three years later they married, but stayed on the Ships two years more. They have two grown children, a girl, Marguerite, and a boy, Alessandro. Their primary home is in Boston, but they winter on the West coast of Puerto Rico in the Rincon area. Many summer weeks are spent in their beloved home on the coast of Maine... through the woods from the Guesthouse. Travel is a passion and they travel home to Italy at least once a year. Twice a year they do Medical Missions in the Dominican Republic. They remain very much in love after almost 35 years of marriage.

Why Suzanne Thompson chose MidCoast and Penobscot Bay

You won't find a nicer house or a more perfect spot for a vacation than the Gueshouse. We have never had a disappointed guest, and many, many repeat travelers. We would love to share our idyllic spot in midcoast Maine with you!

Suzanne's grandfather, Joe Will, was an avid sailor, as was her mother, Louise Will. Her grandmother, Gertrude and her Uncle James completed the ocean loving family. They often vacationed in Friendship, Maine where they had wonderful friends. Joe would buy older Friendship Sloops, sail them home, restore them and build a cabin aft and sell them in the Boston area. The Friendship area is stunning, and has a nostalgic attraction for both Suzanne and Francesco. We would love to have you visit.

You will be 'hooked', too!

What makes this house unique

Whether you take one of the 5 kayaks, or the rowboat out for a tour, you will fall in love with this part of the coast. The Guesthouse is lovely with every comfort thought of and the peace and tranquility that one needs on vacation. You will relax and unwind and return renewed. So much to see and do and eat and experience at your fingertips, but sometimes the best and only thing you want to do is sit on the deck and revel in the peacefulness. You decide, you have found it all at the Guesthouse.

Beautiful Maine

  • 5 of 5

The guesthouse was absolutely perfect. Spacious, well equipped and the location is exquisite. We took the rowboat out several times and watched seals watching us. For an October weekend the weather was perfect and Suzanne, the owner, was extremely approachable and helpful even though she was out of the country during our stay. We hope to be back next year. At first I thought maybe the summer but this long fall weekend is hart to beat. Thanks. Suzanne.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review! I really appreciate it. I must agree that the Guesthouse and that part of Maine is definitely a treasure. When our kids were little they used to say "going to Maine was like going to Grammie's house" That wonderful, comforting feeling of being enveloped in old fashioned goodness. I know what they meant and obviously, you do too. I would love to have you back... anytime! It was our pleasure to host you. Our best to you, and thanks again for writing. Suzanne and Francesco

Slice of Heaven

  • 5 of 5

This place is absolutely beautiful. My wife and I had not had a vacation in over a year and a half and had never been to Maine before. For all the readers of this review, the pictures 100% represent this gorgeous home and location. Sometimes you see a listing and the photos make the place look a certain way and then you get there and its not what you thought,..well this place was decorated lovely, very private, safe, and CLEAN!! The pier is very long and is amazing to sit and watch the sea life. During our stay a family of sea otters, 5 of them would come chirping along climb out on the island across from pier and roll, chase and play, it was so much fun to watch. We also saw the sea lions and heard them as the sun set each day, was so neat. We also saw all kinds of crabs and yes lobsters at low tide moving out from under the pier. There was also an Osprey pulling fish. Location, Location, location,..was great, only 15 minutes up the road was Rockland, great seafood places. Rockport was only 20 minutes North and highly recommend the schooner sail boat ride on the Heron. Upscale perfectly describes the owners home, you will love the decor and the kitchen had everything you needed. We enjoyed in the early evening have the balcony sliding glass door open, the wonderful sea salt air blowing gently in while eating dinner was so relaxing. Then to sit out on the deck for morning fresh fruit breakfast,..just delightful. Had some hard pulls fishing but missed the catch, saw nice size strippers going by, for best chance use a silver/blue 1oz spoon tipped on the hook with some raw mackerel flesh, and dont let it settle to the bottom or those crabs will take it all. We would recommend this place highly as it truly is exactly as shown in photos, was clean, modern, with nearby activities, and great for adults with or without children. The owners of this place were so friendly, made it a joy to stay at this slice of heaven. We cant thank you enough for making our first trip to Maine,..one we will never forget!!!

I am so glad we got to share the Guesthouse with them, they are certainly welcome back anytime. Thank you so much, you guys, for writing a review. (..and I loved the fishing tips!!) My love to you, Suzanne

Owner's Response: Such amiable, congenial, easygoing, friends! In a very rare occurrence, we had to do some work near the guesthouse with an electrician, and although I hated to invade their private space in any way...they just rolled with it and were very understanding and not bothered in the least. These two couples must have been friends for years.. just wonderful people who know how to relax and enjoy. Francesco and I would be "happy as clams at high tide" to have you guys back! Please. ...And you found the otters that we had never seen!!

A little slice of heaven!!!

  • 5 of 5

Real estate agents always chant "location, location, location"------ if you look that phrase up on Wikipedia, I'm quite certain you'll see a picture of THIS HOUSE!!! What a special place..... and even better--- special owners!! The house is situated right on a bay that is full of lobster bouys to kayak amongst... so picturesque! The bay is calm and perfect for ocean adventures without rough waters. The little town of Waldoboro (unbeknownst to us) is in really close proximity to Damarscotta, Camden, Rockland, Wiscasset & Brunswick---- all full of quaint little coffee houses, seaside restaurants & art galleries........ but just far enough away to feel like a true hideaway. The home itself was stocked with EVERYTHING we needed----not a "bare bones" setup!...... so often when we rent houses we spend half our time looking for small items like saran wrap to put away leftovers, or air freshener or something......... and spend a small fortune for convenience item,s we end up using once or twice---- but would be frustrating to do without. Suzanne & Francesco have thought about this and the kitchen is well stocked for actual cooking & serving------ (not just a single skillet & lobster pot as we sometimes find) They were so hospitable & gracious but not the least bit obtrusive--- Thanks for a wonderful stay

Owner's Response: It was certainly our pleasure to meet JR and Tom. We had a lively dialogue before we even met...I knew they were going to be a "good fit" for this beautiful part of Maine. Wonderful and interesting people, they fit so many things into their time here. We will be reserving two weeks for them next year. Thanks, you guys!

Our Secret...Please!

  • 5 of 5

Against my better judgement, I am writing a review. I mean really, why would I want the whole world to know what a great place this is. What if they're all booked up next time we want to come?

We are a family of four, and each member wants to come back. Enough said?

I really cannot say enough wonderful things about the home, and our wonderful hosts. We were fortunate that they were in the area, and they graciously submitted to our multitude of questions. Suzanne also was always quick to respond to any email queries.

Our fishing luck was not too stellar, but boy, did we find some great lobster deals. I mean, really, lobster that's cheaper than a Whopper, how great is that?

We were able to find tons of fresh mussels right at the dock, but never got a clear reading from the Maine Fisheries if they were safe to eat. No worries, tons of places to go in the local area for fresh seafood.

OK, I'm a dude, but even I was floored at how wonderfully decorated the house was. Everything we needed was there.

OK so, can you please keep this a secret?

PRIVACY, QUIET, WATER AND WOODS

  • 5 of 5

This is our second year staying at the Guest House. If you want privacy, quiet, water and woods, then the Guest House is a perfect retreat for your vacation. Here you will find woods on 3 sides and a few yards away from the front door the cove with a beautiful deck to sit, relax & enjoy the water close up. Fish from the dock, take out one of the furnished kayaks or canoe, have your morning coffee or just do nothing. The deck off the house will offer you a higher view of the cove, the occasional lobster boat making its rounds, a table to enjoy your meals and seating to do your contemplating. Suzanne has done a wonderful job furnishing the Guest House with period furniture that makes you feel welcome and comfortable. The kitchen is furnished with all you need to make your meals, including a lobster pot (lobster $3.75 lb. at Creamers). The living area is the perfect place to sit, relax, read and view the outdoors through the sliding glass doors. The bedroom makes you feel warm and cozy. We are not into the t-shirt shops or tourist traps and have found for enjoyment: Sweetgrass winery, Thomaston Cafe, the state Pen store for hand-made souveniers, Bet's fish shack, and pizza at the local pizza shop in Friendship. Another great stop is the Audubon Camp where they have several hiking trails, some along the water and boat dock. We had the pleasure of meeting Suzanne and Francesco, the owners. They were warm and gracious and made us feel very welcome. We very much recommend the Guest House for your next vacation to Maine coast.

Owner's Response: Cathy and Dan are wonderful people. Down to earth, friendly, intelligent, interesting, and just the sort of people who seem to gravitate to the Guesthouse. We thoroughly enjoyed meeting them and if we lived closer I'm sure we would be fast friends. Thanks for the review guys! We appreciate it.

Mid-coast Maine is full of exciting things to do. We are in a wonderfully interesting bay with multiple islands & miles & miles of rugged coastline. Take the rowboat over to Haystack Is. and let the kids hunt for real arrowheads (I've found two!) or explore the immediate coast in the kayaks and stop for lunch on Eagle Is. where you will be carefully watched by a nesting pair. Aside from the obvious boating, swimming, bird watching & fishing that you can do right out in front of the guest house, there are puffin & seal watches, deep sea fishing & sailing charters all available close by. Take a day trip (or longer) to the artist colony of Monhegan Island where the Wyeth family has painted for generations or see the famed Olsen house in neighboring Cushing.

Don't forget the fabulous and famous lobster and steamer dinners available in wonderful restaurants all throughout the area.

Other Activities: kayaking, hiking, exploring, museums, fine and/or rustic dining, Fall foliage, apple picking, hayrides
