Even though Lewes is a small town, we have many wonderful restaurants. Stripper Bites, Jerry's Seafood, Second Street Grille,Agave,Irish Eyes, Gilligans and The Buttery are just a few right downtown. To satisfy your sweet tooth, try Lewes Bakery, and of course Dairy Queen, Kings Ice Cream. Two Dips, and the Chocolate Factory.
Nancy, Despite Joaquin's threats, Jim and I had a wonderful vacation in Lewes, dividing our time between kayaking in lower Delaware and biking at Cape Henlopen. 3 Newark suited our needs! Thanks for opening your home to us. Have a wonderful Holiday Season.
We arrived for girls weekend Friday-Sunday. This home is very conveniently located close to the beach and Cape Henlopen State Park, which we loved (Beach, Hiking, Biking). We also loved the little town for shopping and food- we went to Kindle (very good) and Gilligan's (nice atmosphere on the deck) for lunch and take out from A Touch of Italy. The kitchen is well provisioned, great patio in the back to hang out. My first trip to Lewes and I will definitely return to this quaint little town.
The house has everything you need. Quiet street in a nice part of town. It isn't ON the beach, but you are only 4 or 5 houses down from the beach and it is super easy access. I have a toddler and it was close enough to go back to the house for potty breaks, etc. with no hassle. The beach itself is in a residential area / no hotels or condos. Most mornings and evenings we had the beach to ourselves. Even when it was "busy" the closest people were 30-40 feet away. Would recommend to anyone and we'll be back for sure. Owner is super easy to work with as well.
The location is unbeatable as far as proximity to the beach goes. The beach wasn't even crowded most days - though one night a few gnats wouldn't leave us alone by the ocean.
The rental house was rather small for me and my five family members, but it housed us quite well. I was impressed with the amenities - it is even more up to date than the photographs. The neighborhood is peaceful and there are quite a few nice shops close by on Second Street. Would definitely book here again if I were to return to Lewes!
Very cute cottage had plenty of room for me and my two teens. Place was very clean and had well-stocked, modern kitchen. It does not have an oven, take note! With the exception of the kitchen, the decor and furnishings are basic, not modern, but comfortalbe and supplied everything we needed at a very good rate. The house is a closer walk to the beach than we expected, and Lewes Beach is not crowded. Safe neighborhood for walking; several ice cream and deli places within a 10 minute walk. You would have to drive into Lewes itself, but it is a very picturesque town! Accommodations are up a small flight of stairs, as pictured. "Downstairs" area is locked and not furnished (we peeked thru the windows), so no worries about sharing with anyone else. Outside shower was very helpful for trips back from beach. Owner was considerate and helpful. Would definitely recommend.
We just enjoyed an amazing week long stay at this great beach house in Lewes. It was exactly as described and pictured, so clean, and unbelievely convenient. Literally one block to the beach, which was a must for us with two kids. The beach was awesome, so quiet and no high waves which was perfect for young kids.
The living room, which is basically a sun room, had awesome light and felt so open with all the windows (12, I think). We enjoyed sitting out on the back deck each night after the kids went to bed, and being able to hear the ocean waves.
We took a trip to Cape Henlopen State Park, which was so close by and loved that they had free bike rentals from the Nature Center there. They even had kid carrier options, which was fantastic.
And it was only about a 10 minute drive to Rehoboth Beach Boardwalk, which was also lots of fun.
For good Mexican food, check out Agave in downtown Lewes. Kings Icecream was great too. Kohr's Frozen Custard in Rehoboth was delicious. And check out The Fractured Prune for amazing donuts.
Nancy was so easy to deal with, everything was so clear and straight forward. This was our first family beach trip and it won't be our last due to the great time we had and the ease and peacefulness in Lewes. We definitely plan to be back next year!
A very good base to explore the area. Lewes town is 5 minutes by car or a pleasant 20 min walk. Ideal for a couple or with a small child--the beach is very handy. Recent refit of kitchen nice and smart.Only reservation is that 2nd bedroom has no aircon and can get warm in July.We will certainly come back
Bike or walk to downtown shops in Lewes or enjoy a day exploring Cape Henlopen State Park. The park has nature trails, bike and jogging trails, Nature Center and extensive wetlands, along with a beautiful beach with lifeguards and bath house. For a change of pace, Rehoboth is only 3 miles away. Take the family for a night on the boardwalk and amusement park. There are numerous golf courses just minutes away. So use your imagination and enjoy your stay in beautiful and quiet Lewes Beach.
