I honestly don't even have enough words to describe our stay at this cabin. Shawn and Ed really spared no expense when creating this work of art. Every single finish was so impressive. Even in the rain/snow, we were just as content spending our time indoors. We were both able to have an unplugged weekend, and the fact that the cabin had a great stereo with Bluetooth and tons of board/card games made all the difference! There is not a bad view from anywhere in the cabin, and we spent most of our time just saying "this place really is incredible". We are already planning our trip for next fall, and can't wait to visit again!
Gorgeous Log Cabin Getaway
The cabin is gorgeous, but the view is even more so! We loved the drive up to it, it’s definitely a perfect setting! Our favorites were the screen porch for morning coffee and night time rain, the copper tub, the huge windows and inviting deck and the multiple extremely comfortable beds! We slept in 3 of the 4 beds throughout our week just to enjoy the incredible varying views! Very clean and comfortable, as well as great booking experience and prompt communication from the owners! We will for sure be back and can’t wait! Wonderful place!
Tettegouche log cabin
A breathtaking view high above Lake Superior in a magnificently constructed log cabin. The cabin was abundantly furnished and the kitchen extremely well equipped. The fall colors were literally at their peak and the cabin location made you feel like you were floating on a cloud over the forest. We had more rain than hoped for but still had more than a half dozen hikes to
area waterfalls, rivers and high cliffs overlooking Lake Superior. The only complete washout was Saturday but that gave us a chance to explore Grand Marias, the Schroeder Historical Center and agate shops. A definite five thumbs up.
This was our second visit to the Tettegouche Cedar Log Cabin. It is a wonderful location with beautiful panoramic views of Lake Superior and the Sawtooth mountains. The fireplace which I believe is called a Tulikivi and the heated floors are wonderful additions to an already exceptional cabin. We are already planning a return visit. This time we made use of the outside fire ring.
My husband & I enjoyed every part of our stay at the cabin. This is my new favorite location on the North Shore. It is so central to everything. Sometimes on the North Shore I get weary of the drive after a long day but this was just perfect with so much to see 30-45 minutes in either direction. We spent 2 days hiking off of Lake Superior/ Hiway 61 and also ventured for a day up the Sawbill trail to kayak FourMile Lake and hike Briton Peak. Our son joined us for a day and his kayak rental at Sawtooth Outfitters in Torte was super slick and reasonable. The sleeping quarters are unique in that they are pretty open to each other and the downstairs common area; but if you are with family and friends I don't see this as a problem at all if you all have somewhat similar awake and sleep goals. Very clean; kitchen well stocked with high-end appliances and quality cooking utensils; in-floor heat and unique Tulikivi stone firebox that doesn't seem like it is doing much :) but then heats the whole cabin for a very long time. Large gas grill that started right up and had an extra tank of gas ready when it was time to be changed out. Long hours spent around the outdoor fire pit with comfy seating and lots of wood. Take your own beanie/marshmallow roaster sticks. Great cell phone reception but no Wi-FI-just embrace it! :) I won't lie...the first drive up even in a Ford F-150 was pretty daunting but then you get used to it. The remoteness is part of the charm but I just want you to be prepared that you need some torque and some intestinal fortitude for that first drive up. Thank you Shawn and Ed for sharing your home with us and we hope to return!
Love Silver Bay!!
We had a fantastic three-night stay at the Tettegouche cabin. Couldn't have been nicer!
Next to Tettegouche State Park, and near Split Rock, Judge Magney, Gooseberry and Temperance River State Parks. 5 miles to Finland or Silver Bay, 50 miles to Grand Marais and the Gunflint Trail, 60 miles to Ely and the Boundary waters and 58 miles to Duluth.
We abut Tettegouche State Park which includes Palisade Head, Crystal Cave beach, Baptism River, Bean, Bear and Mic Mac lakes. Also a few awesome waterfalls including the High, Illgen and Cascade falls.
