June and Ron Williams
About June and Ron Williams
We purchased our property in 1991 after spending many months searching for the ideal oceanfront location that offered a forest of trees, absolute privacy & quiet. We wanted to be on west coast oceanfront with views over the Juan de Fuca Strait and Olympic Mountains .It had to be south facing to escape the cold westerly winds . We found our piece of paradise protected from the winds by the point at Sheringham Lighthouse . The 6 plus acre parcel with cedars, fir and old growth alder provided the material to mill and build. Then began the process of designing a creating a private retreat! It would take 10 years before we were ready to welcome our first guests in 2001. All of the trees that Ron fell and then milled , hauled around by an old retired backhoe we purchased from Ladysmith . The old machine named 'Lady' is still in use today. While I sold real estate for close to 20 years, Ron and our housekeeper basically managed and operated the business.

Why June and Ron Williams chose Shirley
Protected from the westerly winds by Sheringham Point we are able to enjoy sitting outside even on these blustery windy days. Should the fog roll in we luckily find the fog does not envelop the property as it does with those facing west. We seldom have fog come to our shoreline. The ocean views are phenomenal and the everchanging marine activity with a variety of commercial and recreational vessels, and an occasional pod of orcas provides an interesting landscape through- out the day. When we built a stair case down to the very secluded beach (,that has no access for miles) it opened up whole new experience with the wild life in this area. The peaceful, serene setting just rejuvenates your soul ,sitting by the seaside surrounded by nature. All of this only an hr from Victoria and an hour and a half to the Airport and Ferries. We welcome guests from all over the world and are pleased to share our little piece of heaven.
What makes this Cottage unique
Our nieghboring property is 160 acres of trees and along with our dead end road location, the only people you will see are other guests. We do not have road signs to respect our guests privacy and our own as well. It is our sincere wish to provide & maintain the ambiance and comfort that we would hope to find in a destination retreat. Thanks for taking the time to read these thoughts June Williams

Perfect place to stay to relax. The property is amazing and has everything you’d need.
A gem of a place - peaceful, reasonably priced, and very well equipped
Looking for a retreat from the stresses of life or just want to reward yourself or someone else then this is it. Well constructed studio totally equipped and filled with interesting objects; situated ideally for waking up to view the ocean with coffee in hand. Located between Sooke and Jordan River opens up area filled with relax activity - hiking, biking, beachcombing, reading or if inclined - wifi ( bring your laptop!)
Barbeque easy to operate, lots of kitchen cooking possibilities, or there is an interesting and "Shirley Delicious" cafe at the top of the road into the property.
Quiet, restful, and totally comfy - we have to return!!
Exactly as described and beautiful
The property was lovely, the owner was very friendly and our stay was very comfortable and relaxing. The only negative was a full day of rain, but we stayed in and enjoyed the fireplace and some local wine, so it all worked out well!
Stayed at the Starboard Cottage, a lovely place. Very quiet, under the trees, with the view into the Olympic Mountains on the owners website. Very much enjoyed a quiet morning soak in a private hot tub watching the hummingbirds feed. Highly recommended..
Thanks for your review... always good to hear guests feedback.. yes, sadly the view is blocked by the smoke from the fires that are burning throughout BC .. However, when complaining about the smoke.. I was reminded that my house did not burn down. nor was I issued an evacuation notice, so I guess that puts in all into prospective, perhaps you can visit another time when the view is clear.. thanks again!
What a great little paradise we will definitely be going back
Thanks for your kind words,, and yes, please do come back!
Orveas Bay Resort is absolutely amazing, the location is gorgeous. We stayed in the Captain's Quarters, which is overlooking the Juan De Fuca strait, and is a hop, skip, and jump from the hot tub. Our hosts, Rob and June have thought of everything. Board games, tons of books and magazines to read, beautiful soaker tub, with separate bathroom area. It's very clean, and spacious. In the living room there is a real wood fireplace, and french doors all throughout. My stay here was amazing ! I didn't want to leave !! We we absolutely be back !!
It's a one hour drive to botanical beach in Port Renefrew, and on your way there there are beaches all along the way to stop at ! Going back the other way, it's about one hour away from Victoria !
