Cayuga Lake is a quiet, 40-mile long lake with little boat traffic, but plenty of ducks, loons, and fish. Our shore is great for swimming. Walk into the water along the gentle slope of the shore or just jump right in off our 54 foot dock.

Cayuga Lake is notable for clean clear water that can be enjoyed by recreational boaters (skiing, tubing...) and fisherman alike.

About Carol Reed

Don and I Live in Cortland, NY. Don just retired from his Business Reed's Seeds in Cortland and is looking to enjoy retirement. I've been retired for several years and happy to have Don finally join me. We have 3 children and 3 Grandchildren. all on the West Coast Vegas, Oregon and California.

Carol Reed purchased this cottage in 2015

Why Carol Reed chose Seneca Lake

Don and I have been renting this property for 6 years. When we first walked in to preview for rental we asked the owner if it was for sale. It was not but we did ask for first refusal to buy when the owners were ready. October 2015 we received an e-mail asking if we were ready. We love this cottage and everyone who has stayed here enjoys it also and has kept it up like it was their own and this makes it easy to have wonderful renters and we do feel comfortable with our friends renting.

What makes this cottage unique

The view of the lake is just beautiful from our wrap around porch and of course the sunsets are beautiful.

Serenity!

  • 5 of 5

Carol and Don were the most considerate and gracious hosts. We went up for our daughter's graduation from Cornell. Although we got there later than anticipated, Carol and Don waited for us and greeted us with with congratulatory balloons, wines, cheese and crackers.

The cottage is very beautiful and very tastefully decorated. It is also equipped with everything you would need, down to bandaids! One can tell that a lot of thought went into making this cottage a memorable experience. It is like "a home away from home". It is also much larger than the pictures indicate with a huge wrap around balcony and outstanding lake views. We enjoyed the paddle boat and hope to return in warmer weather.

Thanks again Carol and Don

Wonderful Spring Weekend Stay

  • 5 of 5

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at this cottage (6 adults). It exceeded expectations, from the fully stocked kitchen for cooking, to the location (beautiful morning views of the sun rising over the water and closely located to so many great wineries), to the cleanliness and homey feel of the cottage. We enjoyed touring wineries, hiking Taughannock Falls, paddle boating, cooking, and relaxing on the dock. Carol is an exceptional host (greeting us with local wine, cheese, & crackers) and we truly appreciated her hospitality! We are looking forward to finding time to return!

This place is like a 'Lil Secret'!! We cant say enough of this quaint cottage. Its clean, very well maintained & within distance to many of the womderful wineries the Cayuga has to offer!! After hiking picturesque Watkins Glen enjoying the foliage, we visited the wineries, then chilled on the pier.

The tranquillity of kayaking on Cayuga is a must. This was our first trip & plan on making this a yearly Memory!! You definitely won't be disappointed ..♡♡

Wonderful place to stay

  • 5 of 5

We highly enjoyed our stay at this cottage. It is very well maintained and clean with the most beautiful views. The pictures don't do it justice. It was also convenient for us to attend Cornell graduation.

Relaxing and beautiful home!

  • 5 of 5

This was our second year staying in this house and are still impressed with how quiet, relaxing and beautiful it was. Description was spot on and we would highly recommend it. Our first year we brought an infant and toddler and the place was suitable for children. We absolutely love it here!!!

We are located on the edge of the western shore of Cayuga lake, 20 miles south of historic Seneca Falls, and 25 miles north of 'gorgeous' Ithaca, NY, where there are spectacular hiking trails among the gorges. The cottage itself has very few steps to the shore and is on a quiet dead end street. Launch your boat at Dean's Cove NYS boat launch which is located just one mile north of our cottage.

We are nestled in the heart of the Finger Lakes Wine Trail. Far removed from the bustling streets of the city, wine lovers will find many of the most treasured winery destinations only a few minutes drive from our location.

You can also enjoy hiking the many gorges of Ithaca. Our favorite is Taughannock Falls Gorge. The drop of the falls is an incredible 215 feet (66 meters) , and is one of the highest east of the Rocky Mountains.

Your local shopping experience may include a visit to the many Amish shops in the area or a trip to the local Senaca Outlet mall or Bass Pro Outlet

Other Activities: Amish Crafts, wine tours, wineries, hiking, shopping, farm tours, golf

Golf: There are many golf options around the Cayuga Lake area. Leading the way is Seneca Falls Country Club, 12 miles to the north on Route 89. SFCC is a semi private club that is open to the public weekdays and weekends.

Also to the south on the Cornell Campus is one to the first Robert Trent Jones courses in the world. Jones was a 1930 graduate of Cornell University and designed this on campus course. Truly a unique golfing opportunity.
