Why Chet Goon chose Bourne Area

My passion is windsurfing and for decades I would chase the wind up and down the east coast and all along Cape Cod. I've been to just about every beach on Cape Cod and have seen many beautiful places. Comparatively, this spot is one of the best. The unobstructed prevailing southwest wind comes right up the coast and lands at my doorsteps. In the summer it brings clean refreshing air which keeps the bugs away and provides wind for all kinds of on the water fun: sailing, kite surfing and windsurfing. The house is roomy and comfortable. Its large desks are just perfect for parties with friends and love ones. The spacious green lawn means hours of fun. You are right on crystal clear Magansett with access to many activities. The island is private and safe for children. They can bike and run to the playground or to the sandy association beach which is minutes away. Or they can bike to the private clay tennis courts or playground on the far end of the island.

What makes this house unique

This home is a slice of heaven. There is so much right at your fingertips. Beautiful Megansette is your backyard, Just relax or enjoy the many fun activities this home has to offer. The views and access to the water is what makes this property unique. The location is perfect for family summer fun. You'll leave here with memories that'll last a lifetime.

The house is in s very private location. The bay is a short walk from the house.

We had a great time using the paddle board and kayaks. It's also close to restaurants and downtown Falmouth was fun.

Mr Goon was very attentive. We really had a great family time and would definitely go back. It was a very peaceful and quiet area but close enough to go out and see the sights. The house was also very well stocked with necessities which made it easier since we flew into Boston.

Great location, great family home.

  • 4 of 5

Well located, lots to do, everything is provided for a great Cape vacation. Some aspects of the house are worn, but it did not interfere with our enjoyment. The rear yard and beach access are terrific.

Just unpack and enjoy.

Wonderful family house

  • 5 of 5

Wonderful location , fabulous waterfront/ beach , totally private, and great host . This is our third year at this house and we have already signed up for next year. We bring our sons for fishing at this time each year. Perhaps a bit too cool for the beach, but perfect for fishing ! Thanks Chet, and hope to see you in Maine for a visit with us this year, Jim

Relaxing retreat

  • 5 of 5

I've had the pleasure of staying at this property on two separate occasions. Once with a group of friends and the other with my girlfriend. Both stays were wonderful.

The house has great views of the ocean. There is a large lawn and a wrap around deck that are great for relaxing.

The neighborhood is very quiet making for a restful stay.

The owner, Chet, is a very amiable guy. He's very quick to respond to questions about the property or your stay. I met him on the beach one morning while I was fishing. I found to be a very nice guy.

If you like to fish, this a great spot to catch all manner of Cape Cod's offerings.

I would certainly recommend renting this property for your vacation.

Great location, but....

  • 3 of 5

The house is on a private island off North Falmouth, with a private beach with two kayaks and a paddleboard, and nicer beaches nearby. The house is very large with a great view from the terrace, but it needs some basic upkeep (gas lighters need to be lit manually on the stove and the gas grill, many lights in the house don't work/need replacing, wallpaper in 2nd floor bathroom is peeling off the walls, some of the windows and doors don't open or lack screens).

We had an awkward afternoon one day during the week when we went to the "private beach" in back of the house and found an entire family there using the equipment and chairs. It turned out later they were related to the owner, who later apologized, but when you pay these kind of prices to rent a beachfront house, you shouldn't have to share it with someone else's family.

Also, it took some persuasion to get the "refundable cleaning deposit" back. It was initially treated as a fee rather than a refundable deposit.

All in all, great location, great view, less than great experience.

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. I've since taken care of the issues you noted. (Some of the screens were removed by previous guests to enhance the view.) As for others using the private beach that afternoon. They were my daughters and her cousins and uncle who migrated over from our beach while clamming. I own two other adjacent beach front properties and my girls often wander over to play with my guests. Often, they invite my guests to clam with them. As for the refund. I returned your security deposit within two days and your cleaning deposit six days after that. The cleaning deposit issue was due to the fact you did not checkout until 11:45 (check out is at 10:00 am) which left me in kind of a bind. I had to hire an additional cleaner at the last minute at extra expense to meet the 2:00 pm check-in deadline of my next guest. As it is, I refunded all your cleaning deposit to you without question. Sorry, you had less than a great experience.

Fantastic family vacation home

  • 5 of 5

Our 4-person family rented this home for 2 weeks at a time in August 2009, 2010, and 2011. We also typically had other family members and friends come for a few days at a time as well.

The House

The house has fantastic views from its elevated foundation across a large green lawn looking over the water. There is a fully functional kitchen, cavernous living room with triple height ceiling, large dining room, laundry room and bathroom on the first floor. Second floor has a bedroom with bunk beds, bathroom, and a large bedroom with great views and breeze. The topmost floor has another bedroom and bathroom and a little balcony for taking in the sea breeze.

The Location

The property is in a very private location on Scraggy Neck. Convenient to many shopping and dining areas but away from all the crowds. The beach is yours and yours alone with the occasional person walking past. Note that the beach directly in front of the house is mostly small stones which makes for terrific critter catching for the kids but 50 yards to the left is the start of a sandy beach. To the right is a breakwater which is a great place for fishing or taking in the sunsets.

Activities

Our family enjoyed swimming (the water in August in Buzzards bay is very warm unlike many other places on the Cape), crabbing, fishing, sailing. We also used the association's tennis courts and play ground. We brought our own sailing dingy and the consistent breeze makes the harbor a terrific place to sail, windsurf, or kite surf.

We have terrific memories of staying in this home and of Chet and his family's warmth and hospitality.
