CAVE OF MARBLE FANTISCRITTI - Colonata AND RAVACCIONE
The Cave of Colonnata
The first step towards the marble basins generally leads to Colonnata (M532), ancient village which is said to have been founded to house the slaves extracting marble in Roman times. The hollow channel of Colonnata constitute the more imposing Watershed apuani and offer superb views of the majestic ravaneti on the sides of mountains Serrone Maggiore and Spallone. At the top of the homonymous mountain is the basin of Joy: This is a complex of caves that form a glance unique.
The Cave Fantiscritti
The quarries Fantiscritti (m450) can be reached by following the stream Carrione up to the bridges of Vara. They allowed, since the end of last century, the passage of the railway used to transport the marble, now converted into a road through the Galleria Vara. Fantiscritti owes its name to the discovery of a roman age now kept in 'Accademia Carrara, consisting of small figures in low relief carved into a wall of a rock. The marble extracted from this basin is the type White light Battaglino and the Grand Canal, the Statuary Bettogli and White of ordinary Fantiscritti.
The Cave of Ravaccione
The Cave of Ravaccione (m. 444) start from plate (m. 267) which can be accessed by following the Canal Torano until Canal Pescina. An exceptional panorama of the hollow basin Ravaccione can be admired from the Belvedere Campocecina (m. 1200).
