CAVE OF MARBLE FANTISCRITTI - Colonata AND RAVACCIONE
The Cave of Colonnata
The first step towards the marble basins generally leads to Colonnata (M532), ancient village which is said to have been founded to house the slaves extracting marble in Roman times. The hollow channel of Colonnata constitute the more imposing Watershed apuani and offer superb views of the majestic ravaneti on the sides of mountains Serrone Maggiore and Spallone. At the top of the homonymous mountain is the basin of Joy: This is a complex of caves that form a glance unique.
The Cave Fantiscritti
The quarries Fantiscritti (m450) can be reached by following the stream Carrione up to the bridges of Vara. They allowed, since the end of last century, the passage of the railway used to transport the marble, now converted into a road through the Galleria Vara. Fantiscritti owes its name to the discovery of a roman age now kept in 'Accademia Carrara, consisting of small figures in low relief carved into a wall of a rock. The marble extracted from this basin is the type White light Battaglino and the Grand Canal, the Statuary Bettogli and White of ordinary Fantiscritti.

A lovely, bright apartment in a residential area, short distance from the sea.
We rented Iris apartment for 2 in September. A first floor bright and airy large apartment in a quiet residential area located on the edge of Lido di Camiaore. Secure with a private parking space, the apartment is about 15 minutes walk to the seafront. A very large supermarket is within 3 minute drive .The apartment has a large terrace with lounge and bedroom access and lovely views towards the mountains. There is a kitchenette which includes an induction hob, (no oven) dishwasher, washing machine and fridge/freezer. Plenty of storage space in bedroom. Everything we needed for our holiday. Our days out included visits to Cinque Terre, Portofino, La Spezia, Lucca, Carrara and Pisa. Walk along the seafront or beach to watch sunset from the pier or take bus/bike/car in the other direction to lovely Marina di Pietrasanta. .The apartment is accessed via a spiral staircase so may not be suitable for some people. The owner who spoke good English, made us feel very welcome and would answer any queries and suggested places to visit. A lovely place for a relaxing holiday.
Lovely apartment, close to the beach.
We stayed here for 1 week in July, the apartment is in walking distance to the beach and a large supermarket, we hired bikes for the week
and cycled to the main shopping areas of Marina di Pietrasanta and also the Lido di Camiore, making it very convenient.
The apartment was very clean and well presented, one of the owners meet us at the property, as arranged.
We would defiantly recommend to a friend who wanted to stay in the area, and hope to return ourselves.
