The Krallis family can be found in Molyvos as early as the late seventeen hundreds. By the late nineteenth century they were part of a small circle of Greek and Turkish families involved in representing Molyvos to the Ottoman authorities and essentially running the village. The interesting blend of Greek identity with active participation in the Ottoman empire’s social and economic life can be seen in the folk art decorating the walls of the Krallis Mansion - currently in the stewardship of the Athens School of Arts - where images of Alexander the great stand opposed to whirling dervishes and depictions of Istanbul, the imperial center towards which Molyvos and more generally the Island of Lesvos were directed.
After the incorporation of the Island in the Greek state in 1912 the family retained its prominent position in the village. In the mid-1920s Ioannes Krallis, father of the current owner of Molyvos Manor, built the power generator for Molyvos’ electric lighting. The little electricity factory close to the harbor provided the village with electricity till the late 50s when Molyvos became part of Lesvos’ grid. Still, the second world war and family deaths led the Krallis family to Athens in the late 40s. Today Stratis and Nana spend six months a year in Molyvos and the rest of their time at their home in Athens. Their sons Dimitris and Yiannis live in Vancouver, BC and Athens.
Stratis & Nana Krallis purchased this cottage in 2003
The cottage was built by Stratis on 2003. It is nicely situated in the olive grove and surrounded by trees and a garden. It offers all the necessary amenities for those who prefer a self-catering property and not a hotel. It is very peaceful and offers a nice view to Molyvos Castle.
This place was great. A nice cottage that has beds for up to five people set on a beautiful little farm with plenty of outdoor seating for when the weather is nice. The location is quiet and spacious like the countryside, and still only a short walk into town for food, shopping, etc. Plus there’s a pool at the main house near the cottage for swimming and lounging.
The hosts were very nice and made us feel welcome.
I would definitely stay here again and recommend it to others.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the cottage, it had everything we needed and more. The owners Stratos and Nana made our stay even better with their warm hospitality. We look forward to staying here again on our next visit.
We stayed in the cottage for only 5 days in May/June which wasn't long enough! Used the pool area outside the owners' home which was perfect. We "chatted" with their lovely cat who was a frequent visitor in the morning and also heard us coming home at night and would run up the path ahead of us to the cottage. Molyvos itself, is stunning. We hired a car for the 5 days and drove to many different places enjoying the Greek hospitality wherever we visited. We will visit Molyvos again - next time for much longer. We would also have no hesitation in heading back to Molyvos Cottage. A big thank you to Nana and Stratis for looking after us so well.
The cottage was perfect, with two terraces, so you can always make a choice to take a sunny one or a shadow one. Everything you need you will find in the (clean) house and the bed was also good. (we slept very well). This is a place for people who likes the calmness, rest and peace with a beautiful view. The owners lives also on the property, (in another house) but are very friendly people. Anyway, you have enough privacy. We even got some strawberry's of their garden. We enjoyed walking in the area of Molivos, Eftalou, Kallonis...looking for beautiful views and doing some birdwatching.
We stayed at Molyvos Cottage for to weeks and It really is a place I will never forget and have already started to think about going back there next year. The cottage itself is equipped with everything you would need and the views from the beautiful veranda are outstanding. The hosts Stratis and Nana are wonderful, so warm and friendly and even treated us to some traditional greek cooking, with cakes, muffins, stuffed peppers and fresh veg from there vegetable garden. We were overwhelmed by their generosity.
The gardens of the cottage are beautifully kept and the swimming pool which we had sole use of was wonderful, always kept clean and amazing views towards Molyvos and the castle.
Molyvos itself is a wonderful place if you are looking for traiditional Greece. With lovely tavernas, bars and a lovely beach we also spent time at.
I would higly recommend this place for a family holiday or just as a couple. We had a car but the cottage was only a ten/15 minute walk to all the bars and restaurants so would not be completely necessary.
We can't wait to go back already!
10 minutes walk or 2 min drive from the amazing picturesque village of Molyvos, this summer cottage is a very comfortable, inexpensive solution for accommodation. Sleeps up to 6 people (two beds in the sunroom), so a fantastic value. One bedroom has a double bed and the other has two twins. A full kitchen makes it possible to have your meal in. the cottage has a veranda for great outdoor living. You have the use of the beautiful swimming pool that belongs to the main house on the property, occupied by your warm hosts. A fresh spinach pie or stuffed tomato cannot be promised, but may find its way from the host's accomplished kitchen to you during your stay. Having spent lovely weeks in the cottage, with afternoon ciestas punctuated by the sounds of the local wildlife (donkeys, sheep and a great variety of birds), I can highly recommend it as a quieter and calmer stay than directly in the village.
We stayed here for just over 3 weeks in April 2014. The cottage is very nice and is situated in beautiful grounds with a wonderful collection of plants. Nana and Stratis were perfect hosts and they speak very good English. The cottage is in a great location, a short walk or drive from the centre of Molyvos. You can park with ease right outside the front door which is a major plus in Molyvos. We definitely recommend it.
Molyvos situated north of the island, a picturesque village topped with a castle that is surrounded with cobbled streets. Below the pebbled beach with sand at the far end of the bay. Lots of spectacular restaurants (including The Captain’s Table in the harbour), a couple of bars should you fancy more night life. 4 ATMs, many small groceries and mini markets. Tourist shops galore. Eftalou only 5 klms away that has hot mineral spring water.
